Get organised early and each week out a couple of things in your basket for the holiday like cereal or jam or biscuits etc etc then put away in a box somewhere. Come holiday time your shop will be quite small just some fresh stuff. You won't miss a few pennies each week.pennywisepoundstupid wrote: »Good morning.
I hope everyone reading is well and had a lovely Christmas, we had a lovely day and received some lovely presents, the children had a fantastic time and I think we managed a day without any arguments:D:D.
We still have loads of food left over and booze which will do for New years eve, we also received lots of tins of biscuits and chocolates so i'm hoping that I won't have to buy many sweet treats in January.
Money news - well I'm probably going to get shot down for the next bit but here goes, as I said a few days ago I had £42 in the bank well I've spent £25 on a deposit for a holiday in may half term, I have booked a lodge and the total cost is going to be £400 for the 4 of us, so I have until april to make and pay £375 which I think is quite doable, the lodge has fully fitted kitchen, there is a fridge freezer and washing machine, so I'm going to save as many sainsbug vouchers and nectar points so I can pay for food that week using them, there is lots of forests close with bike trails by so we will be taking our bikes which will be great fun, the lodge is also on a lake so DH and kids will go fishing I will sit (hopefully in the sunshine) reading my library books :money:, as you can probably tell I'm very excited and determined to have a cheap fun holiday.
I need to do some finance stuff today and work out what we will be owing at the start of 2014, I think my plan for the year is to -
1) Make £375 for hols
2) Target Tesc0 CC.
I need to keep going with surveys and putting bits on ebay, although we don't have much to ebay as to be honest we don't really buy much and what we do buy is needs not wants, also ebay isn't what it used to be and is more of a hindrance these days than a help.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

Excellent idea Mint1955, I will try to get treat items and put them in a box in the cupboard under the stairs as I know the kids never go in there.0

One question.
Is it really Christmas without at least one arguement?
Otherwise glad you had a good time, and definitely enjoy the holiday, something to look forward to makes everything feel better! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

We had two holidays last year, both in caravans from vouchers in the paper. And I don't feel the least bit guilty! You still need to live whilst on the debt free road, and it stopped us feeling like a failure in life. And we feel making memories with the kids is ultra important.December 2018: £20,850.24. Now: £18,333.02 Total paid in 2019: £2517.22

Thankyou everyone, I'm now not feeling guilty and just thinking of ways to make the cash to pay for it, also love mint1955 idea and have started to make a list of things we will need to take with us that I can buy weekly, teabags, cereal, tinned tuna etc, then all we need to buy is fresh items such as bread, meat, milk and hopefully I can fund these with either nectar points or vouchers from doing surveys, I am actually very excited and even thinking maybe we could fit a 2nd break in later in the year.
Took the children into town today to spend some of their Christmas money, both came back with money, but did buy themselves a couple of things, DS went to Game for some skylanders bits, he refused to buy new and bought pre owned Items, DD bought some hair bits in Claires and some boots in the sale in New look, so sensible items on her part.
I didn't buy anything for me as to be honest there was nothing I needed and I couldn't face battling in shops with people buying stuff just because it is half price, cannot be bothered.
Did pop into Sainsbugs for a few top up bits, mainly fruit and veg, also needed guinea pig food and wash powder, ended up spending £22, OH bought me 2 boxes of azzurra cappuccino as it was on offer at half price and he knows I love it, but I wasn't going to buy it for myself as I said I don't really need it, bless him he is a sweetie and it's the little things like that that he does that makes me realise that I have a good one.
Tonight We are eating the meat and tatty pie tonight as yesterday OH got a text inviting us all to a friends for a Christmas get together, was good fun and we were fed and watered, had a few too many glasses of vino :rotfl:, but it's Christmas so why not.
Started to get together statements etc to work out how much will be owing at the start of 2014, looking as though are in the 19s, it's heading the right way and fingers crossed it continues to do so.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weekend.x.0
