  • Good morning.

I hope everyone reading is well and had a lovely Christmas, we had a lovely day and received some lovely presents, the children had a fantastic time and I think we managed a day without any arguments:D:D.

We still have loads of food left over and booze which will do for New years eve, we also received lots of tins of biscuits and chocolates so i'm hoping that I won't have to buy many sweet treats in January.

Money news - well I'm probably going to get shot down for the next bit but here goes, as I said a few days ago I had £42 in the bank well I've spent £25 on a deposit for a holiday in may half term, I have booked a lodge and the total cost is going to be £400 for the 4 of us, so I have until april to make and pay £375 which I think is quite doable, the lodge has fully fitted kitchen, there is a fridge freezer and washing machine, so I'm going to save as many sainsbug vouchers and nectar points so I can pay for food that week using them, there is lots of forests close with bike trails by so we will be taking our bikes which will be great fun, the lodge is also on a lake so DH and kids will go fishing I will sit (hopefully in the sunshine) reading my library books :money:, as you can probably tell I'm very excited and determined to have a cheap fun holiday.

I need to do some finance stuff today and work out what we will be owing at the start of 2014, I think my plan for the year is to -
    1) Make £375 for hols
    2) Target Tesc0 CC.

I need to keep going with surveys and putting bits on ebay, although we don't have much to ebay as to be honest we don't really buy much and what we do buy is needs not wants, also ebay isn't what it used to be and is more of a hindrance these days than a help.

You won't get shot down by me. I'm of the opinion that you need some things to look forward to and actually saving for them focuses the mind on other money saving things.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • Thankyou Jazee, your right it does focus the mind and as long as I don't put it on the CC i'm not making a backward step.

I also feel it's important to spend time together as a family before the kids are flying the nest, I don't want to waste any of the precious time I have with them whilst they are still children, I told DD last night and she is so excited. They have also been told they need to save some spending money.
  • Merry Christmas Penny:beer:,

I think the holiday sounds great, you deserve it, you work like a Trojan and cook and survey like no-one else, so good for you.
And you're right we won't get this time back with the kids ever again, and as you say you're paying for it not borrowing for it.

And it'll give you something nice to focus on if work gets tricky or when the kids do start bickering again:D. Power to your elbow!

  • Thanks PWD, your post made me smile.
  • Weather is wild here, I've been out and rescued the recycling boxes and everything that had blown out of them and put them in the garage.

Left over gammon and stuffing sandwiches for lunch and choc yule log or xmas cake for pud.

Have some braised stk left over from xmas lunch as well, so have made a bit more gravy up added some cooked potatoes, meat and potato pie for tea with left over veggies nom nom.
