Am I the only one thinking get over it? I don't see it is that big of a deal tbf. It happened it was a mistake...move on.

I'm sorry, but if I was assaulted by a store employee overusing their authority in the course of their duties, I wouldn't inclined to "get over it! Sounds like some serious retraining needed in that store.

    Maybe, maybe not.
However, will the store manager have learnt anything and will their training and procedures change because of this one incident or will it be forgotten about in a matter of days?

If I was in the store and I assulted the store detective or store manager, I doubt if there would be much hesitation with me being prosecuted and I don't think it would ignored simply because I looked a bit upset.

The manager did nothing bar make a phone call in another language, look anxious and mutter. She took no control over the situation.

I think that if I was "grabbed" by someone from behind who hadn't made their identity clear, I would possibly instintively lash out. Would I be guilty of assault if this happened?

Had it not been for the near immediate arrival of the uniformed retail park security guard, I may well have "struggled".

Made a "visible mark" on your arm.
    Hardly attempted murder.

No, but the entire 35 minutes was completely unnecessary. Had he approached me, introduced himself and asked some relevant questions- all could have been resolved amicably.

His actions were completely over the top. He should have approached me (even with the retail park security) and asked a few questions. It would have been resolved in good faith.

    Haha, very select!!
Have you ever been to Glasgow?

    Thought not.

And I am a Sassenach who HAS been, several times. It's a fun, vibrant city and *99% of Glaswegians are fine people, very hospitable and I have always enjoyed my visits. Glasgow's Bad Rep is based mostly on hearsay and old TV series.

*The other 1% can be a pain, but that is probably a much lower percentage than a lot of English cities and towns I have stayed in.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

As a Glaswegian by birth, I assume your comment is NOT aimed at me! However, I agree, Glasgow is an awesome city!

  • Had a shoplifter in his little office been "visibly upset", would he have let them off without police/Civil Recovery etc??

That is different to be fair but if say you had grabbed an arm of a customer service person you are trying to get the attention of I would say the vast majority time it wouldn't lead to a prosecution albeit being a wrong action

You didn't have to empty your pockets or bags. Only a police officer has the power to search you.
