Well done Pollyanna, you'll be glad you made the effort to go and talk to her in a few months I'm sure, it can be very lonely being at home during the day with a baby, having someone you can have a coffee and a moan with close by is a godsend!

Thanks for that. Yep, you always imagine things to be different when you're younger, I thought that as soon as I gave up work, I'd be a little socialite out and about doing all the things that I dreamt of doing while at work, but I haven't done a single thing! Part of me thinks I've wasted my maternity leave before the baby comes, but I'm not sure I actually want to do anything. I sit at home waiting for bf to come home. I don't even drive anywhere as I don't really like driving and it seems a waste of petrol if I don't need to go anywhere. Sad hey? Maybe it'll be different when bubba comes and I'll go to some baby groups.

  • I'm absolutely mortified - I missed an antenatal appointment on Tues! :o The first time ever (and I have had lots with both pregs!). We were out with the family for Poppy's birthday and I didn't give it a thought until we got home. My lovely MW had called to see if I was ok and even came to the house to see me!. She is wonderful and has just left after squeezing me in for a home visit.

Not logged on for a few days so going to go back a few pages and catch up.

Hope everyone is ok this sunny afternoon :D.

Hi Pollyanna, I'm 38 wks now and sound a bit like you. I have promised myself that I will go to mother and baby groups when bubba is here. I don't really know what to do when my day isn't filled with my 9-5, and most/all of my friends are at work!

As it looks like we're due at about the same time, I challenge you to go to a group before the end of November, and I'll do the same :-)

Normally the 12 weeks scan is a dating scan done by sonographers at your antenatal appointment. However because of previous pregnancy problems I've had scans at 7 weeks (to check it's not ectopic), 10 weeks (to check early brain development) and 12 weeks by the feto-maternal consultants and I'll be having at least two more (16 and 19 weeks).

There's several tests for downs. Double and triple blood tests but these are only up to 60% accurate, the Nuchal Fold screening scan for Downs is 80% accurate and can be done between 11 and 14 weeks, this is where they measure how big the nuchal fold is (under 3mm is good), but they also looked for other markers (nasal bone - which is often absent in Down's babies, as well as heart and liver blood flow) to calculate an overall risk assessment. I didn't have to pay simply because I'm under the care of the feto-maternal team.

The 16 week scan is to continue to monitor development and the 19 week scan will be to look for any anomalies, but I'm certain that they'd have shown up earlier anyway.

I hated my midwife when I had DD but thankfully only had her for about 2 appointments at the end, My assigned community midwife changed everytime I had an appointment... The final lady was just so rude... I lived quite a way from the Dr's because my local one couldn't fit me in and I asked if I could have a home visit next time because it was becoming really difficult to get there, she looked right past me to my mom and said 'I don't know why these girls get Dr's so far away' like I was a silly child... I was 24 and hit the roof! (I was past the easily upset stage!) She then went on to check my bump and pushed right down on my pelvis, considering I had SPD I hit the roof in a whole different way, practically jumped off the bed in pain.... I wish I'd complained really... But it made no difference in the end, I had different community midwives once we were home....

A friend of mine made a complaint about her midwife during her pregnancy... Then due to a local shortage still had to see the same one for the remainder of the pregnancy, that would of horrified me!

I'm finding the only thing I can keep down in the evenings at the moment is raisin wheats... On the plus side... Constipation isn't something I'm suffering from at the minute!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

    Hi :hello:

First time on this board - I'm 6 weeks today!

Just a quick question I'm hoping you guys can advise on. I don't have any real symptoms other than sore b00bs and slightly darker nipples, and I've been having a few cramps now and then with one quite big one early hours of wednesday morning. No bleeding or spotting at all.

Has anyone else had this? just wanting to know everything is ok really as haven't had a booking in appointment yet.

    Congrats Stargirl!

I am 8 weeks so not too far in front you of. I had my booking in appointment with the midwife this week (apparently 8 weeks is about the norm time for this).

I have had a sore right breast, no morning sickness, very knackered and nauseous over the past few weeks!

They are a good bunch on here and you will learn a lot from them!

    Welcome!

Mum doesn't think I should 'run away' and go and stay with her. She said I should ask OH if he minds me going away for a few days. I've asked him, but he is now point-blank refusing to talk to me. Brother is entertaining this weekend, so can't stay with him. So looks like I'm stuck at home feeling like rubbish with a husband who won't say two words to me.,

Feelie what's going on with him? Why is he not talking to you? Is it to do with the baby or something else? (((hugs)))
