God, I'm only 14 weeks pregnant, but I already feel like a failure of a mother.

I'm finding it hard with all the stuff that you're not supposed to do, and just wondered if everyone else abstains from things totally or if you have a little bit of the things you're not supposed to.

    For example,

I have one cup of coffee a day and maybe a cup of tea after work (is that bad? Sometimes I have two coffees at the weekend).

I had 1 small glass of wine last Saturday and 1/2 Guinness last night and a few sips from bf's various glasses as he was at an ale tasting night. Is this terrible? Should I stop? What do other people do?

I had 2 Iubroprofen for a terrible headache on Monday.

I eat coleslaw and mayo (I know shop bought is okay, but there's no way of telling from a sandwich shop is there?).

I eat fried eggs (but I make sure the yolk is hard, that's okay, isn't it?).

I sound and feel like a terrible mother!

Hiya, i'm 32 weeks and i'd kill for alcohol, lol. I was diagnosed with diabetes in pregnancy and had to give up sugar and fat (lost a stone tho!!) so i'm feeling like i can't have anything!! I still have mayonnaise and stuff, i think it's impossible to avoid everything lol, but i would swap the iubroprofen for paracetamol

sarahsaver - hope you have a better day today

Fritha - I'm sending you lots of happy newborn vibes :D

I have the midwife coming on saturday to see me and DH at home. It's my normal 24wk check up (We are viable!!!!!!!!!) and a homebirth assessment all rolled into one. Will MW check the heartbeat again as standard as DH hasn't heard it yet?

Also - I'm trying to think about what questions etc I want to ask, anyone any tips on what I should cover re: general and re: HB????

    thanks guys x

MW should do it if you ask, they normally carry the heartbeat thingy around with them :)

  • Hi Millies Mum. Are you all organised for Millie's birthday next week?! Will she be 5? We are just having a tea party on Sunday for our family and friends. I still can't believe Poppy will be one! :D

    Have a lovely hol, Shellsuit!

r.mac, the heartbeat should be checked every time you see the mw from now on. Good luck with the assessment!

Hi Jetty! I think Pollyanna is nearly due now! ;). I had the glucose test last week and should get the results anytime soon.

Fritha, so looking forward to you reporting back!

    Has Sarah logged on today?!

    Hope everyone is well xxx

I am 7 weeks pregnant and am experience horrendous nausea and retching pretty much constantly throughout the day, even woke up in the middle of the night retching! I have spoken to my doctor who reccomended an anti-emetic (causes severe drowsiness so cant work machinery which I use in my job) or to take the next 5 weeks off work (totally impractical as am self employed).

Ihave tried crackers, small amounts of food throughout the day, ginger tea, ginger biscuits etc but to nothing seems to help!

Has anyone got any other practical tips?????

Hi all. Just found this thread and thought I would join in. Already have a gorgeous boy and expecting second child 7 April 2008 (unfortunately that is also my son's birthday so I will be sitting with my legs crossed on that day!!)

Both pregnancies I have suffered hyperemesis (really bad morning sickness). First time round I wasn't diagnosed until week 11 and by then had lost 18lbs. This time round the doctors have been really good and I am on cyclizine and prochlorperazine, but have still spent 10 nights in hospital and the last 8 weeks off work. You really should consider the medication as nothing helped for me and if you leave it you risk becoming badly dehydrated and really ill.

I agree completely with the advice you have already been given about not eating & drinking at the same time and eating little and very often. Other than that, there is nothing else I can think of except count down the weeks until you feel better!

    Take care.

Waters broke this AM at 2.20 but no contractions but they will induce me on Fri if nothing happens.

Its NOTHING like on the telly, not one big gush BTW ( this is baby no 4 and the first time my waters have gone by themselves properly!!!)
More like got up to go to the loo, bit of a trickle, then a gush, more comes out when you are lying down, then i got up and put towels and a fleece blanket under to stop the bed soaking. Next time i stood up I had to grab the towels and i sat on the floor on a heap of towels feeling like a bird on a nest. Had hubby and me in stitches, even though it was still early, about 4am or something by then.

also...never had so many different hands up my **** in one week LOL

Hi SB, Yes she is going to be 5, I can't believe it, it will be no time before Poppy is five, you'll be wondering where the last 4 years went, like I am! Although, if i'm honest she is much more fun now than she was when she was one.

Not organised at all for her birthday, its the first time we are having a 'proper' party, 20 of her friends at the local leisure centre for a bouncy castle party,

I am doing the food myself and I haven't got anything organised yet, arrghh!

I am waking up at least twice a night to go the the loo and i find myself working out how many loave of bread I will need and shall i bother with carrot sticks etc when I should be sleeping!

And don't get me started on party bags!

Come on Sarah, we haven't had any births for a while! although a couple of people have been suspiciously quiet just recently! (when my waters broke last time, I didn't know whether it was that or just a humungus gushy wee, should have really i was 41 wks by then!)

Millie's mum don't worry re. the party, when mine were little it was sandwiches, sainsburys economy cakes/mini rolls/jam tarts, jaffa cakes, breadsticks, carrots and houmous, and plenty of tat from poundland. The kids will enjoy themsel;ves whatever is provided!
