I am 7 weeks pregnant and am experience horrendous nausea and retching pretty much constantly throughout the day, even woke up in the middle of the night retching! I have spoken to my doctor who reccomended an anti-emetic (causes severe drowsiness so cant work machinery which I use in my job) or to take the next 5 weeks off work (totally impractical as am self employed).

Ihave tried crackers, small amounts of food throughout the day, ginger tea, ginger biscuits etc but to nothing seems to help!

Has anyone got any other practical tips?????

I was really ill until a couple of weeks ago (am still being sick as I have pregnancy rhinitus combined with post-nasal drip - as gross as it sounds - but morning sickness was far worse and is over with thank god). The only thing I found that staved off the worst of it was to cut a lemon in half and sniff it - unfortunately, the moment you take the lemon away the nausea comes back but it really helped me get through the worst surges and I went from throwing up 4 or 5 times a day to 1 or 2 when I tried it. Up to then I had tried everything else I could get my hands on and they didn't make any difference and, in fact, the ginger tablets seemed to have the opposite effect!

    Hope this helps!

Ohhhhh Septemberbaby are you allowed to say what you have chosen? We are still arguing here as to what its going to be and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OH wants Edgar (I think not!) and I am quite liking Howard (well Howie for short). It is getting to the stage that I may have to go back on my no R's rule as I quite like Ruben and Rufus - but I am trying to chose a different letter as it will just get confusing when the boys get older and start getting post.

Rowan is blissfully unaware that at the moment he is making my name choosing for the new baby so much more difficult.

I cant believe that him and Poppy will be a year old next week! Its gone soooo quickly

  • O and I forgot to say - midwife appointment went fine - the midwife I didn't like was off ill and I got a much nicer woman. AND I got to hear the baby's heart beat for the first time (but am now feeling guilty as I told the other hald not to come to this one as it was just a check up and there would be nothing new - told him on the phone and he was gutted, poor love).
  • Doesn't take much to make me spill the beans does it?! :rotfl:

Well, we have decided on........Jamie :)

We think Poppy & Jamie go well together and had decided early on that we wanted a name that couldn't be shortened (I have a long name myself and am never called it, except in the doctors surgery!).

It has been so difficult choosing though! DH and I have totally different ideas but, just like with Poppy, it was the only one we both didn't immediately object to! :D

Good luck, Sarah! You have less time than me to choose! ;). I really can't believe how quickly this past year has gone and I'll soon be Mum to a one year old!.

    xx
  • Jamie Septemberbaby...I like it :D
    Poppy and Jamie...sounds lovely!

I can't believe you told us though - I don't think I will be telling anyone until after the birth (I may want to call it YouLittleXXXX!!!)

Having said that I struggle to keep anything quiet!!

Oh, SB, I like Jamie! :D

I'm still loitering, as you can see. Further to my last post, where I said we were waiting until Christmas to try again, we're throwing caution to the wind and now playing the "s*d it and see!" game so what will be will be... :)

I know it only lasted six weeks last time but I think we'd almost certainly decided on a girl's name. We made a pact not to reveal it to anyone (other than our parents) until the birth, so in the meantime I'm using it as my password to log on to the network at work so it's still present but it stops me spilling the beans to anyone! Saying it to myself a few times a day when I type it kinda helps! ;)

    SB - what a lovely name :D

Feeling much better today, but still been pretty lazy - ooops. Did get through 3 loads of washing and dinner is all ready to go when DH gets home so that's something at least.

r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • Thanks, ladies! I somehow kept Poppy's name a secret for the whole 9m, partly because my family didn't/don't want to even know the s e x but also I didn't want anyone putting me off. I think Jamie is more conventional though so I don't mind sharing amongst my e-friends! :D

Hi elle! Lots of good luck to you and OH!. Don't you feel like spilling the beans now I have?! :rotfl:

I am not telling anyone the names we have chosen until the baby is born. We don't know the sex yet anyway and don't want to know until the birth. People interfere so much in your business when you are pregnant it's nice to hold something back!
Only been asked twice today if there's 'any news' GRR and tomorrow i'm officially 41 WEEKS PREGNANT AAAAARRRRRGH never went this far over with the others, do u think its anything to do with this littlun having a different father? My dates are DEFINITELY ok cos we were TTC after a miscarriage and my periods were v. regular and got back to being so straight away.
