  • Just got my babycentre email too...

I have just got back from my first Aquanatal class which I really enjoyed. More strenuous than I thought it would be and it was great to meet some more pregnant ladies. I wasn't the only first timer and got chatting to a lovely girl who is 9 days behind me. Looking forward to going back next week!

Now I am shattered so a bath and an early night for me I think.

Does anyone have any stories of not changing to non-bio? God knows why this is on my mind (maybe because I bought my first baby clothes on saturday  )

With regard to visitors I had a conversation with my mum last night along the lines of, you will be very welcome and you will be welcome very often but you will go home and sometimes I might even tell you to do so. She seemed fine with that (not that there was much room for discussion). My parents live about 90 minutes away (MIL is 10 minutes away so not a bother for her to pop round for an hour or whatever).

I now just need to train hubby in the art of looking after guests so I don't end up trying to be feeding / changing / making tea / feeding guests all at the same time!

    hi MFD,

glad you enjoyed your aqua class and met some nice ladies.

i too have just logged into my email and found that my babycentre email has arrived, although i knew what it was going to say because i was impatient waiting for it and went and looked on the website.

as for visitors, my parents are coming over (live overseas too) after i have the baby. i had a chat with mum last week about this and said that becuse we can't predict just when bubs will appear so i think they are going to wait for the call that i have gone into hospital and make arrangements then.

I think I get it now, AF! I remember one of my friend's, whilst in the middle of giving birth and high on gas and air, telling the MW 'I think I will leave it for now' and tried to get off the bed! :rotfl:. That stayed in my mind the whole time I was pregnant with Poppy together with the woman I read about who told her consultant to 'effing eff off'!.

I was listening to the radio on the weekend and they had a woman phone in for a competiton who was due that day, she told a story about how during the birth of her last child her husband turned to her and said "Honey, I just don't think you are trying hard enough".
she said it made her laugh so much she almost forgot about the pain.:D

This time around I'm banning visitors for the first 2 weeks (my mum n sister don't count as visitors tho!) as I'm too polite and let people come round when I didn't feel up to it and then was lonely after hubby went back to work and everyone had already been round.
I personally couldn't stand it if my mum came and stayed with us 24/7 coz she would drive me mad but then she only lives 10 mins away so wouldn't need to
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

  • AF-glad you are feeling a bit calmer today. If I was you I wouldn't watch anymore of the birth programmes either-I made a conscious effort not to with my first pregnancy as it just got me in a panic. Now I do watch the occasional birth programme-eg Dawn gives birth etc and now I've had one child it doesn't panic me anymore it just makes me really emotional and teary when they hold their baby for the first time because that was the most amazing moment of my life when i looked into my little boys eyes for the first time. I'm not that keen on exposing my body or shouting and screaming in front of people but I really didn't care on the day! I wasn't shouting and screaming in pain anyway-I had gas and air which was lovely for me as I felt really drunk and high-nice after no alcohol for 9months!- and kept looking at the trees outside the room in a trance-and also I was so tired I fell asleep in between contractions-I didnt realise this until I said to my midwife 'The contractions just seem to be constant and she pointed out that I'd fall asleep when they stopped and wake again when they started! You'll be fine-I find that when I'm pregnant i do tend to fret a lot about things and get worked up so it's quite natural to be worried. I listened to the Hypno birthing CD-it came with a book on hypno birthing that my friend gave me and it did use to relax me when listening to it whilst lying on the sofa. My second baby is due on the 24th January and although I'm not worried about the birth I am worried about dealing with a 3 year old at the same time! He doesnt really want to talk about the new baby at all at the moment-he changes the subject really quickly although I know he understands and when I showed him the scan picture he thought i was showing him pictures of a monkey!

I wish I was brave enough to do that this time, I remember last time the night after I got home (after a week in hospital after emergency c/section) having an absolute houseful and just wishing they would all p*** off and leave us alone.

Some of the people that came to visit were really random, like people that OH used to work with who we hadn't seen in months.

I am going to be stricter this time, I've already banned anyone from coming to the hospital before Millie has met her sibling.

Ive banned everyone from the hospital but my OH. No way I want my MIL showing up. We get on alright but too much of her isnt a good thing. Plus she is one of those people that needs to know everything and then needs to tell everyone else she knows too so me and OH have agreed that she is being told no details of the birth whatsoever! My mum lives in Northern Ireland, were in Scotland, and shes booked to come and stay two weeks after im due, for two weeks. Hubby has two weeks off work and mum didnt want to encroach on his time too much so hopefully baby doesnt come too late! MIL lives an hours drive away from us so I know rightly shes going to come and stay for a whole day as she wont drive that far for just a couple of hours. Shes going to drive me barmy!

  • Well, there is no way I wanted anyone other that DH at the birth even though the hospital allows two birth partners. I love my Mum to bits but I couldn't bear for her to see me in distress or pain for some reason!.

Banning visitors is/was so not an option for me :D. We are an extremely close family and without my Mum and my two sisters, I definately wouldn't be having Poppy's brother so soon!;). Even though they were told they couldn't see me or baby until visiting time, they still made the journey to the hospital - just in case :rotfl:.

We organised visiting at my Mum's house where a few family and friends came at certain times. It worked for us as we as everyone knew we would be there for a few hours and we never had to ask anyone to leave :D.

I have to go back to the antenatal unit in a min. I was there at 8:30am this morning having my bloods taken for the Glucose Tolerance Test. I then had to drink the most disgusting sugary drink ever and my blood has to be taken again at 10:35am exactly....ooops, better run!

    Hope everyone is well today.

    xx
  • I got the GTT @ 28 weeks as well . Midwife seems to think I will get GD this time round
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
  • I haven't really been on here since I gave up work about a month ago, but have just read the last page.

My Mil in coming over about 2 weeks after I'm due for 2 weeks to stay with us!!!! Arrggh!!!! But she lives in a different country. I think I am going to go stark raving mad.

The only saving grace is that she is also going oop north to visit her other son who's girlfriend is due 4 days before me. I have no idea what I am going to do, this is my first and she will probably just try and take over. She usually gets going on my kitchen when she comes over, so god knows what she'll be like this time!
