skintchick - I would for the interview. We never know what life will throw at us, and if you get the contract you can fullfill your 6 months easily :D Good Luck xxxxx

glad all well at the dr appointment.

re: caffiene I was told to keep it to a max of 300mg per day - that's 3 strong cups of coffee like someone else said. I have one cup every three or four days as a treat. during the first 16 wks or so it tasted vile anyway :D

r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • went to see the midwife today, it seems my fundal height hasn't changed in 3 weeks so off to the hospital tomorrow for a scan and if it's confirmed that baby isn't growing i will be booked in to be induced. As i'm 37 weeks little one wont be premature i'm just upset that i wont get to experience a natural kick off to my labour :(.

  • Sarah - hope something kicks off for you soon.

Casey - if baby isn't growing then best off out of there I guess...hope it all goes well.

Re: caffeine - easiest option is to switch to Decaf Coffee and Tea, especially if you drink a lot of the stuff like I do, it is not worth the risk (especially if you get caffeine from other sources too such as coke) and if you but a decent brand you can't really tell the difference.

Peanuts - the advice varies, but the complete ban has more recently been blamed on an increase in allergies. In moderation is my option (sudden cravings for Peanut M&Ms!!)

AF - do you remember about 10 years ago there were horrific floods in India. I remember very clearly that in the middle of all the carnage there was a pregnant woman who has been swept away in the flood, had managed to cling onto a tree and climb up the tree to safety...whilst waiting to be rescued she gave birth, on her own, there in the branches of the tree with floodwaters swirling below.
The story struck me (and my girlfriends) deeply and has often been used when one of us overreacts to a situation that they are capable of dealing with... In fact only last week I was joking with my friend who was 38+3 to pull herself together, there are women giving birth in trees (she gave birth on Sunday, awaiting gory details!)
I guess my point is that we are privileged to have access to medical care and have the support of our friends, families and internet buddies around us. We all worry, about all sorts of things, but when it comes down to it our babies are coming whenever they choose and we are going to have to cope with whatever labour, birth and motherhood throws at us - and we will ALL be fine!

Is it any consolation to say that you make me feel postively calm ;)
Hope you are feeling a bit better this afternoon

  • Re the peanuts thing

I'm sure this came up earlier in the thread and i've said it before but when I was pregnant with Millie the advice was to avoid peanuts, I did (I'm not really into them anyway) and Millie had a nut allergy when she was a toddler, she has grown out of it now but it was very scary at the time.

I don't know what the current medical advice is but I recall having a conversation with a Doctor when Millie's allergy was being diagnosed and she was absolutely convinced that my avoiding nuts during pregnancy had caused/contributed to it.

This time I am going to make sure I eat some peanuts, I keep meaning to buy some but cos I don't really like them I keep forgetting to buy some!

    Hi MFD,

Feeling slightly better today, but resigned myself to the fact that I wont be watching any more 'birth' footage. It is not the actual act of giving birth that is causing me upset, it's the manner in which i do (by that i don't mean birth plan), more the way i act (as i dont want to be screaming, shouting etc).

I can't say I remember the story about the woman in India though, although I can see why you would draw strength from it or use reference to it.

To be fair, I also think there is a lot going on in my life (and head) at the minute and is making me quite emotional and I think things last night just tipped me over a bit.

I'll get there in the end

How are you feeling today? Been busy with work?

You cant help screaming or shouting when you give birth.
think about some blokes hollering at football matches. This is the same but a WHOLE LOT more important.
you will be in a slightly altered state of consciousness when you are in labour, even without drugs.
The woman who let out a girly 'eek' kind of scream on the programme, i never did that! its more of a moany groany kind of thing. No one is going to give a stuff what you sound like. Opening your mouth is useful as subconsciously this mirrors your body opening up to deliver the baby.

I heard somewhere (or read) that if you don't shout/scream when having s e x, then you won't in labour.:p

If you're not a shouty person in general I would imagine that would suggest you would be less likely to lose it in that way in the birthing room:confused:

  • AF - I certainly hope that you are not inferring that you can judge how busy I am at work by my posting habits ;):D

I have been to a meeting on a site nearly 2 hours away which is a lot of driving for a pregnant lady...I came straight home rather than going back to the office and I am currently contemplating a nap before I gear myself up for my first Aquanatal class tonight :T v excited :T

You know where I am if you need to chat.

Millies Mum - thank god Millie grew out of it, you must have been worried to bits! Good to hear some 'real life' stuff though, thank you...

Now to my niggling worry - washing powder. What are people's thoughts about switching to non-biological. What's the difference, why do it, should you do it, do you ever go back to biological, if so, when?
(No, I'm not talking the pee - my mind works in strange ways and until I get past this particular concern I won't be able to worry about any of the important stuff:o )
