It was interesting that the MW said she could tell by the noises the mother made what was going on in the birth.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

oh i didn't hear that bit. i must admit i only saw the program for the last 15 minutes or so.
i also watched the water birth on 'dawn gets her baby' and felt the same after watching that as i did the one last night.0 -
When I had my son I had an epidural. It was great, I didn't feel a thing and merely winced as I pushed him out, BUT saying that, it was horrible just lying there not being able to move around for hours on end. Oh and then having to have my Mother afterwards help to bath me at the age of 20 because I hardly had any sensation in my legs still.....that was so embarrassing!
When I had my daughter I had pethidene. I felt totally spaced out. I had a magazine and must have read the same paragraph over and over again for around an hour, because nothing I was doing was registering in my mind.
OH (at the time) said I looked like a smackhead because my pupils were like tiny pin pricks. It was great for the contractions, but for actually pushing her out, it didn't help with the pain at all.
I've never had gas and air so I'm gonna give that a whirl this time unless the pain gets too bad, then I'll take whatever is on offer!
If you do happen to decide to go for an epidural, make sure you have it written in your birth plan as your midwife will be able to check where and how long an anethesist (sp?) will be, whereas if you don't have it written down and then decide on the spur of the moment you want one, you may have trouble getting an anethesist in the nick of time
Your issues with the epidural and pethidine are exactly what are putting me off them, but with the amount of pelvis pain I already have I would doubt I will be able to get by without one of them!Sarahsaver wrote: »It was interesting that the MW said she could tell by the noises the mother made what was going on in the birth.
Didnt she also say something about how she could tell the woman was kinda panicking because she was screaming so much or something like that?

Oh I missed that program, when was that on and which channel... I will have to look out for a repeat.
Just to say for those that are worried about the birth, It isn't that bad and the best part of it is that it will eventually be over, one way or another...and there is definately no right way.'Whatever feels right at the time' is the right way for you at that moment in time. Of course you can do as much as possible to ensure you are as prepared as possible and feel in control, but at the end of the day your body is going to kick the little mite out of it's comfy warm house whether you want it to or not.

Hi all!
My internet has been down  so I couldn;t get on yesterday. Well the doctor did nothing as you all said - congratulated us and I booked to see the midwife on Friday, which I think is early as I am six weeks and two days now but I guess they know what they're doing?
I got a pack of info and got books from the library too - not a great choice of stuff but itgave me something to look at yesterday.
I did ask the doctor to do my blood pressure as it is low and I was 96 over 66. He said ti would be OK though.
I have cramps still, and my lower back is painful, but I think that is partly my hideous constipation! Anyone got any tips on getting rid of that?
I keep worrying I'm going to miscarry even though there's no history of it in our family especially, but I think that's probably natural worry?!
I'm having a nightmare with having to cut back on caffeine - I hate fruit and herbal teas, hate fizzy drinks, and am not keen on fruit juice! What hot drinks can I have? Would white tea be OK or is that still full of caffeine?
I also have a dilemma - I applied for a job last week and have been asked for an interview next week. I'm not only supposed to be at work next week, but even though this job is for a six-month contract with possibility of extending, I feel a bit guilty going for it - any ideas on how to deal with this?
Would you go for it anyway? (I really hate my current job but they are very family friendly). I intend to give up work after the birth anyway so maternity etc isn;t really a consideration. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I was told the limit on caffeine equated to 6 mugs of tea or 3 mugs strong coffee a day. I also drink a lot of milk, hot and cold (its probably the closest I've got to a real craving for anything so far).
If you're planning on giving up work anyway why not stay put and take advantage of any maternity benefits you'd be entitled to?
I don't know what happens with your service but my first MW appointment was just a chat about various things rather than anything 'technical' IYSWIM so I don't think 7 weeks-ish is as opposed to 8 is unreasonable
I've got my 22week MW appointment and I have no idea what to expect there or what the process is afterwards. its like everything was leading up to the 20 week scan and now that's passed I'm kind of in the dark.
I feel terribly guilty today. I had a packet of raw peanuts this morning without thinking and it suddenly struck me that I'm not supposed to eat them about 30 minutes after I'd eaten the lot:eek:26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

Something to do with asthma and allergies I think26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

I was advised by my MW not to eat nuts due to an increased chance of bubs developing a nut allergy. I think in my case it was becuase I suffered with Asthma when I was younger and also excemea (sp?) and hubby suffers with hayfever.0
