I can't find a recent post with a newbie so I thought I would hop on in anyhow.

I am new to the thread and expecting number three in January. I have two little boys already, aged 2 and a half, and nearly five.

Hi skintchick! Congrats to you! You can't be very far in! Enjoying it all so far? My time has flown this time what with two kids and a business to keep me busy! I am trying to stop and enjoy it all a bit!

  • I don't recall making noise last time... But I think I might of... Might of sworn quietly under my breath... I was so busy giving birth I neither noticed or cared... Don't know about the bowel movement either... I kept doing lots of little ones while I was labouring on the ward and hoped that it was clear when the time came... I was in the birthing pool and didn't notice any 'wee beige jobbies' floating by anyway!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Now to my niggling worry - washing powder. What are people's thoughts about switching to non-biological. What's the difference, why do it, should you do it, do you ever go back to biological, if so, when?
(No, I'm not talking the pee - my mind works in strange ways and until I get past this particular concern I won't be able to worry about any of the important stuff:o )

Hi MFD I switched to non bio when I started washing DDs clothes just before she was born. Think we used it for about the first year, after that all her clothes ended up in the same wash/powder as ours (non-bio). Fairy smells lovely but tbh Tesco's own still smells nice and is much cheaper! We only used it as its supposed to be more gentle on their delicate skin. We also didn't use bubble bath stuff for the first year in her bath as both DH and I have a tendancy for sensitive skin. My aunt is a midwife and advised any products added to the water have a drying effect.

However, as she was 2 weeks late, she came out with really dry skin anyway (something to do with cooking too long and loosing the "vernix" if my memory serves me right!) and we used to smother her in virgin olive oil (well, perhaps not smother otherwise she'd have been as slippery as a wet bar of soap:rotfl: ). Its also great if they suffer with cradle cap, just massage a little in a night and then wash off in morning and gentle brush with soft bristled brush.

As for noise in labour my mum and DH were really amazed how "quiet" I was. TBH I was on pethidine (which was fab, tried gas n air and it made me sick) but I was aware that all the effort I put into screaming etc was taking away from the effort of pushing! Yes, there were low moans and groans but its not as if you are screaming in agony. I never thought of it as pain as such, not like breaking a leg I guess, more a major discomfort albeit relatively short lived in the big scheme of things!

For the benefit of the newbies, before I gave birth a friend told me to imagine contractions like waves coming up and down a beach. I liked this idea and also being like a flower (opening up down below), each one brings you nearer to meeting your bundle of joy :j

My good old mum always told me if birth was that bad, there would be a hell of a lot of only kids in this world (I've got a brother so giving birth to me never put her off) and here am I, 8 weeks away from doing it again!

  • Angel fairy - You wont even care once you are in labour:rotfl: They could have sold tickets in the car park for me and I wouldn't have even noticed lol. And I've had 2 - both completely different labours and no screaming in either:T I do remember saying 'I cant do this!' and it was just before she was born apparently most women say this and its a clue to the midwife the birth is imminant!

PS - how do I quote so the box appears around the quotation???

  • Hello,

I just finished typing up a big long post and then the internet went down! So here’s a shorter version!
MrsTine – I hope you’re feeling better! Please do let us know how you’ve been when you get the chance!
Allergies – The MW told me not to eat peanuts to prevent allergies, but I’ve forgotten a few times and ate them anyways! I LOVE peanut butter and miss it terribly!
I’ve got a question for everyone :What’s your opinion on having family visit for the birth? My parents are overseas, and were asking if we wanted them there when the baby was born. I think it would be great to have the support, especially during the first few weeks after the baby is born. But some people think it’s better for family to visit later when you’re more settled and in a routine with the baby. What do you all think? Anyone have any previous experiences with this?

  • Crazyaboutsaving - I personally was glad when my visitors left at the beginning and couldnt wait until we were on our own learning to be a new family but my parents only live around the corner and I could shout if I needed them. How well do you get on with your family - Would you be comfortable to ask them to give you a bit of space if you needed it?

i had the world and his wife visiting for the first 2 weeks after the birth, both my mum and mil would come round every day, once my DH went back to work people stopped coming and i felt very lonely alone with just a small baby all day. i used to walk into town everyday just to get out of the house.
btw both my mum and mil were there at the birth of dd, i couldn't get rid of them!! not sure what will happen this time as i'm booked in for a HB and my mum is due in hospital a few days before i'm due..
