I haven't really been on here since I gave up work about a month ago, but have just read the last page.

My Mil in coming over about 2 weeks after I'm due for 2 weeks to stay with us!!!! Arrggh!!!! But she lives in a different country. I think I am going to go stark raving mad.

The only saving grace is that she is also going oop north to visit her other son who's girlfriend is due 4 days before me. I have no idea what I am going to do, this is my first and she will probably just try and take over. She usually gets going on my kitchen when she comes over, so god knows what she'll be like this time!

Oh you poor woman. I really do feel for you! If my MIL offers to stay I will be telling her thanks but not thanks. I said to OH there was no chance she was coming to stay, shes only an hour away so really no need!, and he said it wasnt really fair as my mum was getting to stay. My mum lives in another country and its my mum who will be helping me when he is back at work. I wouldnt expect him to be at home with my mum if I wasnt there so when hes working im not staying at home with his!!

Re visitors, I told everyone who wanted to visit that they were more than welcome, and time after the first 24 hours.

    However, there were certain rules:

    1) under no circumstances were they to ring the doorbell. Call on our mobiles.
    2) Bring food - both savoury & pudding -rather than flowers or babyclothes
    3) Feed us, wash up, make tea & hold the baby whilst we rested

It meant only good friends & family came, & no-one ever stayed too long :D
  • AF - do you remember about 10 years ago there were horrific floods in India. I remember very clearly that in the middle of all the carnage there was a pregnant woman who has been swept away in the flood, had managed to cling onto a tree and climb up the tree to safety...whilst waiting to be rescued she gave birth, on her own, there in the branches of the tree with floodwaters swirling below.
The story struck me (and my girlfriends) deeply and has often been used when one of us overreacts to a situation that they are capable of dealing with... In fact only last week I was joking with my friend who was 38+3 to pull herself together, there are women giving birth in trees (she gave birth on Sunday, awaiting gory details!)
I guess my point is that we are privileged to have access to medical care and have the support of our friends, families and internet buddies around us. We all worry, about all sorts of things, but when it comes down to it our babies are coming whenever they choose and we are going to have to cope with whatever labour, birth and motherhood throws at us - and we will ALL be fine!

Is it any consolation to say that you make me feel postively calm ;)
Hope you are feeling a bit better this afternoon

This is how I try and calm myself down when I worry about the birth and I must admit the closer I am getting to it, the more calmer I am. A few months ago I was absolutely petrified and although I wouldn't say I'm okay with it now, I'm getting better.

I keep telling myself about that poor Austrian woman who had 7 children in the basement by her father. There was no one to help her! Although I'd say the Indian lady had it even worse!! I suppose we just have to put it in perspective.

  • I was on my own with DD and my Mum made a big thing of coming to help for the first week... What she actually did was come round at 7am! and sit on the chair reading her magazines... My sister popped round one morning and was horrified with her, she got her up and cleaning the bathroom and vacuuming for me... (My sister had her baby 3 months after me and turned down my Mum's offer of 'help')

2 days out of hospital, my milk came in and my Dad and his girlfriend came to visit... I was up and down stairs feeding all the while and ended up cooking them tea! It won't happen again this time!!

As for MIL... She's practically agoraphobic.... and I won't have her in this house at all anyway!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Because I haven't been on here in a while... where has the list gone? I've gone back a few pages and can't find it anywhere. It used to appear 5 times in the space on one page.

  • My MIL will always get stuck into my ironing when she is over :D which is a bonus! She does refuse to use the dishwasher though which is a tad annoying and I usually stick everything that she has handwashed and left on the draining board straight in there as soon as she leaves!

Any thoughts on coccyx pain? I have had a dull ache for a while now and it is getting worse, particularly when I spend a lot of time sat down at work. The girls here are trying to convince me that I should be moving to BIG knickers but I just can't bring myself to do it...I should probably invest in some maternity thongs though I suppose. The pain is not unbearable, just uncomfortable really, although it has got worse.

Thanks for that. I'm going to deal with it by just ignoring her I think! Haha. It might sound horrible, but I'm not too bothered about offending her. And I'm certainly not going to run around after her. In the past when she's started cleaning the kitchen, I've handed her the dishcloth and let her get on with it! Sod it. She used to think I was parp at "looking after" her son and was amazed when he got the mop out. But we both had full time jobs, so why should I do it all?! And if she wanted to take over my chores, then let her!

I've been told by friends to just get in the car and drive to their house and leave the mil behind!

Still, I'm not too thrilled at being home all day with her by myself, but I'll cope somehow. Want the baby to come early so that I have more time to get used to her by myself. I'm 36wks + 1day (but could be 38wks + 1 day going by menstral dates), so don't mind if she makes an appearance now. The mw said yesterday that I wasn't engaged yet, but that doesn't mean anything.

TMI alert - I have noticed more leakage down there, not majorally, but I have read that that could mean labour any minute. I've "tidied" up down there, so I think I'm ready!

  • I got the GTT @ 28 weeks as well . Midwife seems to think I will get GD this time round

Aww, I hope not! Why does she think that? Mine is due to high BMI/BP :o.

I'm back now. The lovely phlebotomist (love that title!) recognised me and called me straight in as soon as I got there :D. Have to wait a week for the results but have been told I'm lower risk this time as I didn't get it with Poppy .

  • Hi all -

I just got Some Derma Mum Stretch Mark Oil in Boots for £3 - reduced from £11.99 :money:

I don't think I need to buy any more lotions and potions now :o I think I am just using it as an excuse to not start buying madly for bubba - I just know that once I get started I will struggle to stop.

I have also bought a cushion for my chair at work but to be honest my tailbone is still hurting like mad.

In boots at the moment they have the Tommee Tippee breastfeeding pump and related products (steriliser, bottles etc) for 1/3 off. I was thinking of plumping for these (ridiculously expensive) anti-colic bottles http://www.tommeetippee.co.uk/product/closer_to_nature_anti-colic_bottle_/ which I think are also supposed to mimic the action required for breast feeding.
Do you think it is too early to start buying that kind of stuff?

I am also thinking that if I am unable to breast feed then will I have wasted my money on expensive products for nothing.

    Decisions, decisions...

  • MFD, last time I didn't buy any bottles as I was going to BF (which turned out to be for one night only!). Luckily a friend had already given me her Avent steriliser and I received a few Dr Brown's bottles at my baby shower so we were dandy for a little while :). We then used some of the Mothercare vouchers we recieved to buy bigger bottles and fully kit ourselves out.

If you intend for DH to give baby a few feeds then you will need some bottles but you could cold water sterilise using tablets without buying the expensive unit.

Re the bio/non bio thing, I have always used non-bio anyway but since birth I wash all of Poppy's clothes seperately using Fairy powder and conditioner. I guess I must have been got by advertising somewhere along the way! :D. I use Bold 2in1 for DH and I.

Has your tailbone been hurting since your fall? :grouphug:
