    Re the peanuts thing

I'm sure this came up earlier in the thread and i've said it before but when I was pregnant with Millie the advice was to avoid peanuts, I did (I'm not really into them anyway) and Millie had a nut allergy when she was a toddler, she has grown out of it now but it was very scary at the time.

I don't know what the current medical advice is but I recall having a conversation with a Doctor when Millie's allergy was being diagnosed and she was absolutely convinced that my avoiding nuts during pregnancy had caused/contributed to it.

This time I am going to make sure I eat some peanuts, I keep meaning to buy some but cos I don't really like them I keep forgetting to buy some!

There are current studies looking into this as allergies (esp nut) seem to have increased so much since pregnant women have been told to avoid them!!

I think it is a bit like the thinking behind children living in a sterile home with no pets etc, leads to more illnesses and allergies than children who grow up with animals and a bit of dirt around them.

If you think about it like this, although I am not a doctor so this is purely my opinion....But when you go on holiday to exotic places you are immunised ie They actually give you an injection of yellow fever or typhoid or whatever it may be, this is to build up your immune system against the disease, therfore complete avoidence of certain substances means your body does not build up any immunity...Now like I say this is purely my opinion.

I heard somewhere (or read) that if you don't shout/scream when having s e x, then you won't in labour.:p

If you're not a shouty person in general I would imagine that would suggest you would be less likely to lose it in that way in the birthing room:confused:

that's me boogered on two counts then :o:D

What with that and hubby football chanting on the sidelines you had better hope that I am in the same hospital as you AF - everyone will think you are a church mouse :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am fairly quiet during sex but in labour the midwife had to tell me to shut up as I was scaring all the other ladies in the labour ward, apparantly you could hear me all over the place.....:o:o:o:o

Now to my niggling worry - washing powder. What are people's thoughts about switching to non-biological. What's the difference, why do it, should you do it, do you ever go back to biological, if so, when?
(No, I'm not talking the pee - my mind works in strange ways and until I get past this particular concern I won't be able to worry about any of the important stuff:o )

Ive never used bio as it hurts my sensitive skin - in fact the kindest for me is tesco own brand non-bio liquid, so it's mse too.

oh - and I am very clean as are my clothes :rotfl:

Feeling slightly better today, but resigned myself to the fact that I wont be watching any more 'birth' footage. It is not the actual act of giving birth that is causing me upset, it's the manner in which i do (by that i don't mean birth plan), more the way i act (as i dont want to be screaming, shouting etc).

I think I get it now, AF! I remember one of my friend's, whilst in the middle of giving birth and high on gas and air, telling the MW 'I think I will leave it for now' and tried to get off the bed! :rotfl:. That stayed in my mind the whole time I was pregnant with Poppy together with the woman I read about who told her consultant to 'effing eff off'!. And also I was petrified that my bowel movements would let me down too :o (and I'm sure they did but no one ever told me :D).

These things worried the life out of me but were all forgotten about whilst I was in labour and giving birth. Somehow I just managed to channel my energy into the reason I was there and I'm sure you will too.

PS: DH confirms that I didn't scream like a banshee!

    thanks ladies,

going to rethink myself not having peanuts now. i can understand what the mw was saying, but can also understand what you all have said and i must admit i thought the same thing to.

as for the screaming, well, if no one is around, go for it, but by saying that i am not talking about labour :D

MFD, by no way was i referring to your work/posting habits :p thought you must have had a meeting today. make sure you get plenty of rest. thanks for saying i know where you are if i need, but it's not fair to lump my stuff on you.

going to leave work in a bit and then i might come back online later tonight. might do some online work too. need to get back to that. oh damn, now i remember i was having trouble downloading java again (which i need) after restoring my laptop.

:D oh lord, don't even get me started on worrying about bowel movements. that was my biggest fear until i actually was pregnant (as a suffer of IBS - which touch wood has eased off now with being pregnant). i watched somethign on the baby channel where the midwife said they are so quick and changing the bedding under you that you dont often realise what has happened. i am holding onto that thought for eternity.

  • My midwife the other week told me it is only peanuts you have to avoid , any other kind of nut e.g pistachio or brazil etc you CAN eat . However I have eaten peanuts during both my pregnancies (and the other day as well) and both my girls have not got any allergies at all .
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

AF and lucifa - I'm the other person doing hypnobirthing. I start next month. I am attending a private course as unfortunately the NHS don't offer courses in my area, so we are shelling out for it ourselves. I consists of 5 x 2.5 -3 hour sessions and we get CD's and books to take away to 'practice' with. Hubbie (or birthing partner) and I are asked to attend together.

Even just signing up has calmed me down alot about B-day :D My big thing is that I'm very private about my body (just call me a prude!). Hubbie jokes that he doesn't know how he managed to get close enough to impregnante me  Anyway, Birth therefore concerns me as people have to be around the business end  I have opted for a home birth to help minimise my personal terrors of hospital and interference in my 'personal space' and hope that hypnobirthing will help me stay calm and feel a little more in control (or as much as you can when it comes to things like this :O )

It might not do anything at the end of the day - but I believe that it can't hurt to give it a go and see what happens.

I'd like to hugely recommend hypnobirthing. I never had the time to attend a course, but bought a CD which I listened to many many times. I was (mostly :D ) totally relaxed during my second labour...ok, it wasn't totally pain free, I was slightly less relaxed for the last 20 minutes or so, but is was managable! Infact I refused to leave the house, until less than an hour before he was born. And even now, I'm looking forward to my daughter's birth. I think the pregnancy is worse as it's longer. Only 13 weeks to go!
