  • Thank god I am not going mad. I also rely a lot on my memory- always very good but forgot last night my parents were coming for tea. When they arrived we had already eaten!

I am reluctant to tell work so early on but i'm not sure whether cos of this problem I should at least tell my line manager. I have told a very supportive colleague in confidence so she can help me out with some lifting tasks next week. When did you peeps tell work?

My memory is usually excellent too but not at the moment - and I've got exams in November:eek: . I'm also suffering from worse typing dyslexia than usual:o :p

I told my immediate boss and the partner who's portfolio I work on mostly at 6 weeks but onbly because I really wanted to see doc or MW before going on holiday to check out do's and don'ts and the only appointment I could get was in the middle of the day so I need to be off for the whole afternoon. Everyone else at work found out after my scan and even then I only actually told a couple of people and let the office grapevine do the rest

Hi Candygirl - love to your daughter, she's lucky she's got you!

As it stands at the moment, he doesn't need to be on the birth certificate for her to be able to claim child maintenance from him.

If he's not on the birth certificate, he doesn't automatically get equal parental rights to the baby - but he could apply through the courts for equal rights.

However, the law is changing (not sure when) and the government are going to insist both parents are registered on the birth certificates.

I think its part of this Autumns welfare reform bill - i've no idea how it would take for it to become law.

Thinking about it - its also going to be almost impossible to enforce! There are genuine cases (watch Jeremy Kyle), where the mother has no idea who the father is - what will they do then?
I feel like i'm living it at the moment:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I told my immediate work/line manager practically straight away. The office I work in is pretty small and I was having some problems with my heart which meant I needed to have tests etc. I kind of figured that it was less stress to let them know and have their support than to try to cover things up...and if the worst had happened (god forbid) then I would rather they knew beforehand anyway IYSWIM.

I think it depends on where you work and what kind of relationship you have with your boss.

  • I am also in a dilema about when to tell family and friends. OH would have told them the day we found out but I am more cautious. What is normal practice here?
  • We told our very closest family and very best friends very early on, then no-one else until after 12 weeks. Another friend had a 12 week scan recently and discovered baby had died a few weeks ago with no symptoms to indicate this - it made me realise (amongst so many other things) that I was glad we'd only told a handful of people. We wanted a few close people to know to share the excitement with, and if things had turned out differently to support us if we needed it, without telling everyone. I guess it's different for everyone though - that's just what we felt would work for us.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to wish everyone best of luck in their pregnancies.

Had our scan and have been informed that the pregnancy has ended.
Had to come home straight after scan as the other department we were due to see had all gone home for the day.
Will get a phone call tomorrow and will see where we go from there.

Best wishes to everyone and I'd really appreciate it if someone could take me off the list, but too emotional to do it myself.
    Thanks xx
