Obviously she now has to decide if she wants him to be in the Baby's lafe later on and if not then make sure he doesn't get any right etc by making sure he's not listed as the father on the certificate etc - I think she can do that - it does probably mean she won't get any financial support from him though I think? Others will know this much better than me though!!!

He is still the father whether he is on the certificate or not so will still be liable for child support... If he is not on the certificate he has no parental rights and she won't need his permission for anything such as schools, medical treatment or leaving the country...

My ex left me a few weeks after I found out about DD, he completely disapeared until she was 4 weeks old, then went off again till she was 2 1/2... then went off again... He won't be coming back again, he's had his chances! If your daughter wants to chat to someone who's gone through it, just PM me...

Edited to add... DD space for father on her certificate is blank but we still get CSA... Took a while but he did have to pay up in the end! If I were your daughter I would seriously consider leaving his name off, it's a hard decision to make but I'm glad I made it!

  • Hi girls

I'm 6+3 today and have today got a very small amount of brown discharge/blood....old type looking stuff really.

Have any of you ladies had experience of this? Just wondering if I should be overly worried?

    Thanks

    Kathy x
  • Mrs Tine - they have done things very quickly for you haven't they? I wasn't expecting any scan invites etc until I had been for my first midwife appointment.

Kathy 72 - not sure what 6+3 means?

6 weeks + 3 days - how far gone she is...makes it easier than typing it out all the time ie I am 15+5

 OMG  I am 15+5 - that has absolutely flown!

Kathy, I think the general rule is keep an eye on it. If it is only brownish stuff and not very much then it is quite normal. If it becomes red or gets heavier then call the midwife.

Hi Candygirl - love to your daughter, she's lucky she's got you!

As it stands at the moment, he doesn't need to be on the birth certificate for her to be able to claim child maintenance from him.

If he's not on the birth certificate, he doesn't automatically get equal parental rights to the baby - but he could apply through the courts for equal rights.

However, the law is changing (not sure when) and the government are going to insist both parents are registered on the birth certificates.

I think its part of this Autumns welfare reform bill - i've no idea how it would take for it to become law.

Thinking about it - its also going to be almost impossible to enforce! There are genuine cases (watch Jeremy Kyle), where the mother has no idea who the father is - what will they do then?

  • Can I just ask you all if any of you have experienced what I would describe as a 'mushy brain' early in your pregnancy. I am just 6 weeks and I keep forgetting things and feel dead disorganised all of a sudden. I have just sent an email to the wrong person in work, just not like me. Is this pregnancy things? I just feel mad all of a sudden and it's getting me all upset.

Yep - totally the same. From before I knew I was expecting (and I found out around 6 weeks) I was being scatty and it hasn't got any better. I got up to go to the loo yesterday and ended up in the kitchen (other end of flat:confused: ), I put catfood in the freezer and I can't recall even the most basic facts at work:o . I've got a little notebook to jot down things and wait a couple minutes then re-read emails before sending them out

I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • Me too - it's horrible isn't it?

My job relies on my memory - the fact that I never forget a conversation or a detail is what makes me so good at what I do. I have found myself in tears several times because I simply can't remember something being said (that has been minuted in meetings) or because I have agreed to do something then forgotten completely about it.

When you are used to being organised or always remembering things then it is very upsetting not to be able to do it anymore - although Hubby tells me that this is what everyone else is like all of the time.

Lists are the only way forward.
