  • Hi,

I know I haven't been that active posting on this board but I have been very happy to follow the useful discussions here - thanks everyone!

And now I am ready to move to the parenting thread, I guess. Findlay arrived on Sep 2nd - 18 days early. I was induced due to starting preeclampsia so had the prostin to mature cervix etc and followed up with contraction-inducing drip. I used gas and air and had a shot of morphine at one point. So not quite the drug-free birth I was wanting but I am very happy with how the labour went and of course with the final result!
I used a gym ball for most of the time and ended up giving birth standing up by the bed. I felt it hard to be comfortable on the bed - the plastic sheets meant you felt you had nothing to push against.. And on the ball and by the bed, my partner could support me all the time. A bit funny when the midwives were getting in cushions to catch the baby but all went well!

Best of luck to you all - all the pain is definitely worth it! You feel a huge sense of achievement!

    A proud new mother :-)

  • Hi!

Congratulationsw m dorph on Findlay's safe arrival!

Very early days for me (4 weeks) but the strange sensations have already started.

It may sound weird but since I found out, last Friday, I have been having cringy feelings/exam type feelings - like butterflies.

Also feeling quite achy on my left side (where I felt my ovulation and I (presuming) my implantation pain. So I am hoping this is all normal and my little "apple pip" (as Baby centre described!) is just making its presence known!

All new to me so have no idea!
Proud mother of twin boys - double the trouble and twice the pleasure! :T
  • Just thought I'd say hi to everyone. I haven't been on here in ages as I started maternity leave at the end of august and I used to be on the computer constantly at work and so have avoided it since I've been off!

I will try and read through all the posts I have missed since I've been off, but I have to go and cook bf's dinner in a min, so can't stay long.

I'm 34 weeks today and baby is throwing herself around my insides like nobody's business!!

my gp told me not to avoid nuts, he said that's why there is an increase of allergies where women avoid stuff when they're pregnant. but he did tell me not to eat prepacked sandwiches. not sure why but i don't eat them anyway.
i've had a couple of drinks as well, 3-4 when we were on holiday and 1 last week coz it was our wedding anniversary.
i'm getting really fed up now and just want this baby to be born, it feels never ending. only 31 days till EDD, i can't wait!
  • Ikklebeans, I'm having the same kind of Achy feelings on my left side and across my womb too... Don't recall having them with DD but then I didn't get the 'feeling like you're about to come on' feeling with her either... I'm hoping it's normal too... If we're both having it, it must be ;)

Have you started having cravings yet? Because I reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaally fancy a curry... But not really sure if it's a craving or just because OH doesn't like them so I don't get one very often...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I believe this to be true from my own experience, the advice in my last pregnancy was to avoid eggs and nuts, I did and Millie ended up with an egg allergy and nut intolerance (which thankfully she seems to have grown out of)

So I intend to eat as many different things as I can this time (although at the moment all I really want is Seabrooks Cheese and Onion Crisps)

Hi r.mac and lucifa, I've had 4 sessions of hypnobirthing. I love it. The sessions lasts 2-3 hrs each. I was a bit dubious at first and thought it might be some "weird hippy s$*t" as my DH used to put it. We both attend the class. What the tutour does is explain how the body works and teaches you to trust your body and baby to birth easily. The theory behind it is if you are calm then the muscles of your uterus and womb work together and is relatively free of discomfort. (You are not allowed to use the word pain!!) So if you fear birth then its more likely to hurt. The course also teches you to relax. I never thought I could do it but now I can bring myself into instant relaxation by breathing correctly and triggers (ie my OH touching my shoulder and telling me to relax).
I practice 4-5 times a week so its nothing you can just turn up to the classes for, you have to make time to paractice. I would advise you to start the classes early enough. I started at 24 weeks and feel as if I would have benifted from starting a little earlier, maybe around 20 weeks.
I feel even if it doesn't work for the birth, (which I am sure it will -positive thinking is also important!!) I will still be glad I've done the course as i feel it may help after birth as i can now make myself fall asleep within5-10 mins by relaxing.
I'm also aware that many of you have had the experiance of birth and are probably thinking after reading this "the poor girl, she has no idea...". So be it, I might be screaming during birth for pain releif, but as I mentioned a part of this is positive thinking and self belief so please let me be happy in my own little world for now!! I'll let you know soon eough if it works!!

    Congrats mDorph!!:j

I'm loving grapefruit juice and cadbury's dairymilk lots at the moment - but that's pretty usual

I would say that I'm having more un-cravings than cravings :D There are so many things I can't stand at the moment, and usually I love all food!!!!
