I decided not to get a travel system as its safer to leave a car seat fixed in the car and the baby only fits in the car seat for a short while, plus i cannot understand why people do not want to pick their baby up out of the car  You will only need another car seat in a few months' time...

I am so excited - I heard little bumps heartbeat for the first time today. At 18wks I thought it would never happen! It was brilliant, but scary at the same time :D I called Hubbie straight away to tell him and the poor love got all jealous and now wants to come to every single appointment with me!!!

re: prams I am wavering between a big silver cross http://www.twoleftfeet.co.uk/acatalog/Silver_Cross_Classic_Sleepover_Deluxe_2008_Jet_Sport.html#abuy_2dscclassleepjet(totally impractical because it's too heavy for me to get in and out of the car) for walking into the village, isn't compatible with the car seat we want (MFD - we also want a maxi-cosi and isolfix base) and I really dislike the pushchair it turns into.

The other option is the bugaboo chameleon http://www.twoleftfeet.co.uk/acatalog/Package_New_Bugaboo_Cameleon_Denim_Package.html As it's lightweight, has a proper carrycot attachment and I can get this in and out of the car, it fits with the car seat we want, BUT I can't help but feel it's a bit modern looking and awfully expensive!

    can I have two????? :D

Most go from birth to about 9 months don't they  depending on the size of the baby.

Only safest to leave the seat in the car if it is fitted correctly in the first place - and with the isofix bases there is no problem with taking in and out of the car. I think the advantage for me in taking the seat out of the car is if baby is sleeping or you are visiting relatives or going out to eat or the supermarket etc where baby may need somewhere to 'sit' for a while. Also, you can wrap them up against the cold before you leave the house without going for a full on snowsuit affair.

And lastly - I don't want to have to buy 2 seats for 2 cars (although I will buy 2 bases) - don't want to restrict dad from taking bubba out and giving me a rest now do I!!!

  • Millies Mum & 3onitsway, I love the SC 3D and so glad we made the right choice! Its quite compact when folded and fits in my Punto easily with room for shopping. DH has it in his boot at the min but if I get a chance I will take a few pics of when its folded and get him to measure it for you! We have it in pushchair style now but she looked so comfy in pram mode plus we also bought the matching carseat which we used for short trips.

MFD, I have also read that Maxicosi and Britax are the safest seats. We got the SC one though as it went with the system but recently bought a Britax forward facing one which is from 9m to 4yrs. We didn't choose isofix at all as Poppy rode in various family member's cars so obviously not very practical for us. Nanna does however now have her own Britax one in her car!

Aww, its a lovely feeling isn't it r.mac?!

Re the Can I have two?

Bear in mind that you probably will end up with two, after a few months most mums end up buying a buggy as well!

I know we ended up buying a buggy because we were going on holiday and the pram was impractical to fly with but once we got home we never really went back to the pram.

Its really tempting to buy the expensive trendy one though isn't it? We fell for that and spent a fortune last time but i am determined to be a little more sensible this time (if only because I don't expect MIL will want to pay for this one!)

    Hello!

went to see the midwife again today, bit of a panick/stress as my bp was up when they first took my bp but they checked again and it had gone down (and low for me too lol) so then stress over!

The midwife was a bit rough/firm when examining me (wasnt usual midwife)-came home with right back ache again from her pressing down on me so hard! Well baby is now 3/5 engaged-so progress!! Still head down and in correct position so all good! Listened to heartbeat as usual and everything is fine.

Will be glad to see my normal midwife next week though to be honest-this one stressed me out big time but luckily i managed to breathe deep and keep calm god knows how?!

    Aaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Glad everything is ok Keely, I had a visit with the midwife/ doctor/hospital too today. I've been swelling badly for the past few days and have had horrible headaches and sickness with dizzyness. So, call to midwife who told me to see the gp. My blood pressure is a little high and there was a little bit of protein in my urine. So, trip to the hospital to be prodded and poked for a few hours. Thankfully I was allowed to come home on the understanding I rest totally over the weekend and go right in if the swelling comes back worse than it is now.

Fingers crossed it's all just a blip and I can carry on normally for the next 12 weeks.

  • Can someone please update my status. I've literally found 5 mins to myself to type this - thank you.

    Katie May born 16.08.08.

Was a nightmare birth experience, developed pre eclampsia and was induced for 4 days. Then needed an emergency c section as baby and my health was getting worse.

After everything that I went through, all the pain and trauma I would do it all again tomorrow. She is the best thing that has happened to me. Being a mum is absolutely brilliant!!!!!

Good luck to all the other new or soon to be new mums out there! ;)

I know it's early days for me but i've been looking at buggies, and I quite like this one as it's rear and forward facing.
