You normally see the midwife more then that, depending how the pregnancy is going. Id say every month at least.Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0

Hi, i've been for my first scan, 10 weeks, and was quite amazed to see a baby shaped alien type thing! My last baby is 7 1/2 and her first scan showed a kidney bean with a heartbeat!
Anyway, as i'm now an elderly mum (37), and my last baby was born almost 8 years ago, i've noticed the maternity care up here has changed a lot in 8 years.
Last time, i saw midwife every month for first 6 months, every 2 weeks for month 7 and then weekly for the last month. On top of this were the two scans (10 and 20 weeks), and another hospital appt. with the consultant who also did blood wee etc.
This time, i've been to docs when i found out, hospital at 10 weeks for my first scan, then nothing until hospital at 20 weeks for proper scan. I think after that, i see my midwife at 34 weeks, then 38 - and thats it!!
Is this normal? What do other areas of the country do?
Maybe i'm just panicy!, but i cant help thinking if something goes wrong, i'm not going to find out til the 20 week scan!
I wouldn't worry too much - I only get one scan, at 15 1/2 weeks, then see the midwife once every 4-6 weeks until i give birth. And this is my first baby!!!!
Care seesm to vary widely from area to area. We even looked at going private, but no-one provides a service in our area!!!!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

I think it has alot to do with it being your 3rd but even so the appointments do seem a bit far and inbetween. Have they told you thats all the care you will receive?
I saw my MW at the GP around 8w, scan & booking-in at 13w, consultant at 14w (this is only due to my BP - with Poppy I had no consultant appnts whatsoever), MW at 16w and my 20w scan is on 1 Aug. I already have an appnt booked with the MW at 24w.

Yes, thats the standard set of appointments these days, over in Wirral. Spoke to a friend in the area who said hers is the same.
There is also a weekly drop in at the doctors surgery with the team of midwives, where you can go if you need anything.
With the other two, i suppose they didn't do much apart from blood pressure and weight at the montly appointments, but it was always reassuring to hear the little heartbeat every now and again!!:beer:0 -
Hi ya, had my hospital tour today and was really pleased. Everything seems really clean/tidy etc and has been updated loads with new facilities etc. Im now no longer worried about going in, and staying over. Just got to do my antenatal classes now!
