Before I get too pregnant (26 weeks at the moment), I think I should look into hiring a TENS machine. Not altogether up to speed on what they do (except for help in labour), so just wondered if anyone could direct me to a good website that I could maybe hire one from, and if people think they are worth hiring?

EDIT: Hmm, just read that it should not be used if I have ever had a heart rhythm problem. I have had palpitations in the past (starting from when I was 6 years old but diminishing as the years have gone on). Something I should talk to the doctor about, me thinks.

I hired a TENS machine for labour with my DD, it was fantastic, I went 2 weeks over my due date and they were fine about it and didn't charge extra, I can't remember the name of the company but they were the ones recommended by the midwife I seem to recall they had something to do with Lloyds pharmacy!??

Hi there, I'm new to this thread as I only discovered I was pregnant a week or so ago. Now my question is, and please don't think me a bad person for asking but, can i safely lose weight whilst pregnant? Only I've been dieting for the last couple of months and doing really well, and don't want to stop now. I've not been crash dieting, just healthy eating, more exercise etc, but I really don't want to put on loads of weight. I actually want to continue losing weight whilst obviously making sure that the baby is healthy. Does anyone know of a safe way to do this? A lot of people say you shouldn't diet at all whilst pregnant, but surely if you have over a couple of stone to lose, like I do, then you have the energy reserves in your body anyway? just to clarify, i'm not suggesting that I want to starve myself, or even close, just want to keep on slimming for as long as possible.

i would definatly speak to your gp and midwife,i dont think that pregnancy is an excuse to eat everything and anything but thats me personally.im lucky my cravings are for ice or were for ice.when i wanted a snack ive always eaten a piece of fruit or something similair.i think eating sensibly and gentle exercise is a good thing in pregnancy i know they have a pregnancy aqua natal class at our local swimming thats good.i wouldnt set your heart on losing alot of wieght but u may stay the same.i dont think dieting is the same as eating healthy though.

    Hi fawd1,
There's an amazing book called nutrition before, during and after pregnancy by patrick hoford, he's a well known nutritionist. Basically, what he advises is eating healthy throughout your pregnancy eating plenty of fruit and veg, beans and lentils ect. So essentially what you are doing is changing your way of eating and maximizing your intake of vitamins and minerals which is great for baby's development. People often associate the word diet with restricting their food intake but this should not be the case if you follow his plan. He also believes in the 80:20 rule which just means if you eat good nutritious food 80% of the time you can eat what you fancy (within reason) the other 20% of the time. Mmmmm.
