I've not read more than the posts on this page as there are far too many. I'm having my third child by elective section in just under four weeks.

On the subject of baby carriers, I am going to get a Calin Bleu wrap, I'm just trying to ebay some bits to fund it. :rotfl:

Another great site is https://www.bitsforbairns.co.uk - they've a good range of slings, various different types.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!

Had a silly panic last night and went to bed upset.. all because I was looking at myself in the mirror and got all fretty about where the hell a baby is going to fit - I'm only a size six!

I'm not worried about putting on weight and all that (believe me, I wish I was a decent size ten and could find so much more to wear!), I just think I look too narrow (both side to side and tummy to back) to get a baby in there!

BF is making me hold a rugby ball in front of me to try it! :(

Don't worry, it's what we are designed for. I used to be as thin as you, not quite so much now, but you stretch, simple as.

My mum is 4'10" and size 6 clothes are too big for her. She really is smaller than your average 10 year old! And she had me and my brother. Granted my brother came out at 24 weeks, but that was nothing to do with her size, and I came out at 33 weeks, so maybe there is a pattern here, but I was a healthy 5lbs when I came out.

Thanks everyone for their help about my sciatica or pgp (the midwife said it was sciatica). I'm still suffering, but putting up with it. It was awful bad Friday night. Woke bf up as I got "stuck" on my left side. Eventually managed to get on my back. Bf said he was going to physically pick me up and plop me down on my back, but figured I would wake the whole street up screaming if he tried that! He feels a bit useless, as he wants to help me, but can't! It's been a bit better since then. I don't lie on my left side anymore as that's the sore side, and seeing as I have to wake up to physically turn over these days, I don't unconsciously roll over on to that side. Bit of a nightmare.

I've told my boss I might be late for work some days as my leg kills me. If I'm over an hour late, I'll just work some of my lunch hour. It's either that or I get signed off early and I don't think he wants that at all as I'm the only person here and he hasn't even sorted someone out for when my maternity starts at the beginning of September!

I spent ages choosing a blooming travel system yesterday. Was dithering between the Urban Detour Xtreme and the Trenton Deluxe from Mothercare. In the end decided on the Urban Detour, but when we got to the till to pay for it, it was discontinued. I was so miffed. They said it might come back on later in the week. Turns out I was glad we didn't buy it as the reviews for it are awful when I tried looking up buying on the web. And I thought we were buying something that was fan dabby dosie!

Has anyone got any views on the Trenton Deluxe? It's on sale in Mothercare at the moment for £230.

Just to join in with the sling discussion, after a LOT of pondering on the subject (and chatting to mummies who sling!) I've decided on this one (and I can't recommend that website highly enough). 'Proper' slings are more fiddly than the Bjorn carriers and the suchlike but once you get used to them I've been told they're so comfy and second to none!

As for prams vs slings, we decided to hedge out bets and got both! We've got a maclaren xlr. We figured that way if we need a pram for the sprongling we can shove her in that but if we don't it'll still be grand for all the time she might need a pram :-)

Polly, my friend has a Graco Quattro Tour (which is basically the same as Trenton Deluxe) she loves it, it's massive and very heavy and kind of like pushing a canal barge but the amount of stuff you can fit in it is phenomenal! She has decided that she'll have to move her daughter to a buggy soonish though (she's 18 months) as it's a bit heavy to push as the sprog gets bigger apprarantly. Hope that helps :-)

Congrats to the new mums :-) And another booking in such a ridiculously short labour please! :-)

Congrats Sunday-girl:j I also love the name. Seren was on our list but we found out we're having a boy. Hope you are both doing well.

Thanks for all your replies about pushchairs, thanks heather, I hadn't read about baby bjorn being bad for their hips. I also have a baba sling which i will probably use too then.

I think I will subscribe to which magazine and have a look at the reports there.
So, I think I'll use the carrier and sling until baby is about 3 months and I'll also look into getting a pushchair that's comfortabe and offers good support, lightweight and easy to manouver.

Sorry to hear about your sciatica pollyanna, no advice, just hugs, I've heard its very painful.
Hope everyone else is well xx

i have to say i now prefer slings but for those that like carriers theres a solution that takes the wieght of the hips.
my hubby wasnt a big fan of slings and liked our carrier a bjorn one i didnt found it a pain with all the straps and things.when we went the breastfeeding cafe we were showed some slings and carriers and he tried one and loved and we are now going to go to a sling meet where u can try them all on.http://www.rumplebums.co.uk/acatalog/Sleepy_Nico_.html this is very similair to what he tried on it basically ties underneath ur childs bum so ur child is sitting in it with its legs around u as if u were carrying them with a newborn it ties higher up and is soo safe thats the thing that persuaded my hubby and the fact it was triple times more comfy than the bjorn one.they are quite pricy but u can make them yourself a lady at the meeting had made a ring sling herself and we tried riley in it at 5 days old and then she had her son in it who was 9months so they take all sizes.

Honeybe they're fab, I ummed and aaahed over a mei tai style as well so I'll prolly get one of those as the baby gets bigger :-) I just had a thought, Wilkinet make a carrier style one but the baby is still held in a sitting position and they're sposed to be pretty good for your back too. I won one a while ago so I'll be playing with that one as well, it look really nice :-)

(Sorry, been looking far too much into slings atm!)

Pssst...I love my urban detour...got it new off ebay with carseat for £150 last summer. No problems with it yet, although I may be tempted to exchange it for an out'n'about nipper (lighter though not smaller) if it dies on me. I even took it on holiday with me (even though I had a chance to borrow a Jane!) and it proved water and windproof through the winter. The bad reviews scared me too, but so many people have them that the incidence of bad experiences will be that much more. I'm just saying....
