Hi girls,
Myself and DH went shopping yesterday to have a look at prams/pushchairs and car seats. My head was spinning afterwards with all the choices  ! I didn't find the lady in the shop particularly helpful. I want something that's practical and offers comfort and good support for the baby. But the lady in the shop just kept saying do you like this one with the spots or do you prefer stripes!
Anyway, I am sooo confused and wondered if you guys had any advice for me. I've bought a baby bjorn carrier which I'm hoping to use whilst supermarket shopping over first few months. (winter baby due Nov). I dont think I'll be going out and about much in the first few months. My socialising will involve visiting (driving to) friends houses and having them round mine as many of them have small babies or are pregnant. So, I'm thinking I probably wont use a pram much. Is there any point in me getting a pushchair for the first few months or do you think I can get away with just the baby bjorn. I've heard that baby bjorn is excellent for babies spinal development.
Also car seats, my sister told me that its not good for baby to be left in car seat for longer that 1hr as there is no neck suport. So, is the best option for me to have a baby bjorn for first 3-4 months, a car seat obviously from birth and a pushchair from 3-4 months on?
Aaaaarrrgh!! I'm so confused!!

I have a friend who didn't bother with a pram at all until 5-6 months just used the sling if she went out, she didn't have a car and said that the sling was much more practical on the bus/train too.
I have been considering this myself, the only thing being, I have to take and the collect the kids from school which is a 15 minute walk each way so I not sure it would be very practical for me and I would probably worry about tripping on the pavement. If it was my only baby though, I would go for it.

It's a nightmare isn't it! We managed with a second hand system that included car seat and pushchair. I do a lot of walking so found the pushchair invalueable - also VERY useful if you have a baby that cries a lot as sometimes you just need to get out of the house - or even better get DH to take baby out of house for 1/2 hour while you rest!!!
There is a lot of info about not leaving babies in car seat although our first had awful colic and the car seat position was one of the few where he was comfortable.
My SIL has a Baby Bjorn and it was so useful that I have bought one this time round. They didn't really use anything else unitil baby got too heavy to carry in it but I think baby has to be a certain weight before you can put them in it???
Don't know if any of this helps - sorry for ramble.
Can't believe I'll have my new baby in three days!!
I don't feel very prepared.Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet...0 -
baby bjorn and other similar carriers are not that good for the babys hips as the part that they 'sit' in is quite ridgid when the're in it and don't let them put the legs together. a sling is much better ergonomically for babys back and hips, plus they have the bonus of allowing you to strap baby upright or flat depending on how you tie the sling.0
