  • I'm dying to join this thread LOL.
I'm 37 and for the first time in my life BROODY!
I know that I would be classed as an old mum, but don't feel or look old.
I'm married and have cleared all previous debts, have a spare bedroom, lots of love and time going spare so think this is the right time and in a good position - just got to actually get pregnant.
I've never experienced this feeling before, it seemed to appear out of the blue. I thought I wasn't the type to feel like this.

(hugs to all of you) xx

Morning all. Welcome and congrats to all the newly pregnants, there must be lots of lucky baby dust around at the mo, I'm rapidly moving up the list despite not being due til 21st Nov.

2nd scan for me later today (the anomoly one) so fingers crossed everything is ok! Taking DD with us (she's 3), shes really getting used to this baby thing at the mo- at nursery the other day they all had to stand up and say "I'm a star because" and her reply was "my mummy has a baby in her tummy" ahhh, had me in tears when they told me, the poor nursery assistant, only a young girl was a bit freaked out by my reaction, you can tell she doesn't understand what hormones do to you!

Anyway, the reason for my mammoth post is to say to pollyanna and fritha that I never saw child birth as "pain" as such -I've never broken any bones before but I didn't think it was pain like you'd expect from a broken bone! DD was 2 weeks late so I was induced and on a drip to speed up contractions and others have since said this is supposed to be more "painful" (I think "pain" is the wrong word, it was more "discomfort") but never having been through it before, I wasn't to know! I tried gas and air but it made me sick and I have a phobia about that so then tried pethidine despite being adament before hand that I wasn't having it - worked a treat, felt a bit like being on a different planet but in a nice way. There was no way I was having an epidural as I also have a fear of needles (and blood so childbirth was never going to be a breeze eh?!).

So, to get to the point, my experience was fine, but we are all different. My nan had twins, back then they didn't even know she was expecting 2 and she said to listen to your body as it knows each stage etc and to some extent I found this true. I never had a birth plan as even the best laid plans can be taken out of your hands so personally didn't want to spend days coming up with my "dream birth", I went in with an open mind knowing the midwives wouldn't put mine or the baby's life at risk.

Someone else also told me to think of the contractions as waves coming up and down the beach which I quite liked. Each one brings you nearer to meeting that little one you've been carrying for 9 months (tbh I found the stitches after more painful than the birth itself!! tea tree oil in plain bath water works a treat as does bending over as if to hold your ankles when having a wee help stitches, and mw said to have first wee in bath, sorry if tmi, but having kids was never going to be glamorous!) I ended up with a ventouse delivery as she was getting distressed but alls well that ends well.

I think of myself as a wimp so there is no way I'd be going through it a second time if the pain was unbearable. Like my good ole mum says, there'd be alot of only children in this world as no one would ever have more than one!

At the end of the day, labour is just the culmination of 9 months of worry and stress so just accept that you are going to be anxious but try and keep it in perspective. As a man would tell you, its gotta come out somehow as it can't stay in there forever! Hugs to all x

Thanks Rosie, that was really ridiculously helpful :-) I'm phobic of being sick as well (hooray for hyperemesis in early pregnancy, luckily it was nausea rather than extreme vomiting but blimey that wasn't fun!) but I'm grand with needles and blood! You've very much given me food for thought and in a really good way too :-)

Polly, just want to add that the media stuff is really hyped blown out of proportion and very much the exception to the rule!

Keely, awwww so cute! Good work mini Keely! Mine got hiccups the other night and Himself put his hand on in the hope that it would soothe her (it seems to have a sedative effect) but she just hiccupped really hard into his hand five times!

:D she told me it was a strong kick and i never kicked that strong! might have my hands full with this one i think! hehe!

I dont think ive noticed any hiccups yet-although he/she has mad moments of moving like a nutter anyway so maybe i havent picked up on it?!

Its all getting to a very exciting stage now-im 30 weeks now so only 10 weeks to go! the consultant at hospital told me i can now by pass the gp and ring up maternity now if any problems etc.... sounds scary as its gets closer! so glad there are lovely ppl on here and another baby board to chat to!

Thank you so much Rosie and again thanks Fritha. I think I am just getting all a little stresso over it all at the moment.

Keelykat - so you got a proper kicker, have you? Mine is just a little fidgety, a few good kicks and a few hiccups (I thought these were just kicks at first, but think they are too regular to be kicks, unless I am giving birth to a natural drummer!).

I've been having big probs with my sciatica/pgp or whatever it is. Takes a while for my leg to "unstiffen" - not sure if that's the right word. I shuffled around the block with bf and the dog this morning (he would have gone alone, but I figure the more I move, the better it is for me) and I got stuck trying to get in the front door. bf got in the door first, then I said, "I'm stuck." He was like, "What?" and I just burst into tears. That made him rush out the blooming door and help me!:rotfl: I just couldn't move as I put the sore side up on the step first.

He wants me to give up work now which is 7 weeks before I plan to, but I know maternity pay doesn't kick in till 29 weeks and I'm only 25, plus it seems so lame as my leg does get better sometimes. Oh, what to do? What to do?
