Polly, I'm like Keely I still have chuff all bump! But she's measuring fine for dates so it's odd, I also had somewhat of a tummy beforehand (and that's puytting it politely) and I've bearely put any weight on so I think that explains it. But that wasn't what I meant to type. Essentially as I understand it they want to keep an eye on the baby to make sure a) the poor kid isn't going to end up getting so big (s)he ends up coming out with a school uniform on, I think in that case they might consider encouraging the baby out early but I couldn't tell you for sure about that, your midwife will know a heck of a lot better than me b) that they know what they're dealing with and the baby isn't going to get too big for you to be able to get out yourself. I think in that case they may consider evicting them via the sunroof but again it's all ifs and your midwife will know much better than me.
If it help my friend (who's expecting again and will have another enormous one) had a 9lb 14oz little girl a couple of years ago, all natural no stiches or anything, and my friend is pretty tiny herself so try not to worry, they'd just rather be safe than sorry. Have a chat with your mw next time you go as she'll be able to explain things to you :-)
Heehee, love the way you put things! Made me giggle. Hope mine doesn't come out with a school uniform on! EEEk!
I've managed to get myself in a right old lather this morning over labour and childbirth. No idea why it has struck me now. I got an e-mail from Babycentre and I started reading that section and all the pain relief available and it just really scared me!
I'm not good with pain, but then I've never really had any, so I never needed much pain relief for anything. Avoid it for stuff like headaches etc. So I think it is the amount that people go on about pain relief that scares me. It must be really bad if pain relief is that much of a issue, iyswim.
Ooh, I don't think I'm making any sense. Anyways, I think my point is that I'm scared. And I know everyone is scared and I think the scariest bit is not knowing what to expect. You hear such horror stories and even reading on Babycentre which is not there to scare you, scares me.
Are there any websites I can have a proper look at that, I don't know, describes it in detail (or will this make it worse? - I was fine until I started reading!). My mw says that she will go through a birthplan with me at 36 weeks and I have one antenatal class at 35 weeks. I am currently 25 weeks.
Sorry for my moan. I'm sure all your experienced mothers will think I'm pathetic. I'm not terribly scared of pain, as it's expected, but what if it's unbearable pain, as I simply don't know what to expect.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Right madam listen to your Auntie Fritha, I get myself in a right old lather regularly and over absolutely everything so in an odd sort of way I am a good person to advise!
One: You don't know how it's going to be none of us do, but, you'll be in a good place with lots of people who know what they're doing and have done it millions of times before so will get you through.
Two: At this precise moment in time there are several thousand women giving birth, in fact when you're having your baby you're going through it with so many other women at the same time. They're all coping and so will you, your body is designed to do this we have the tummy buttons to prove it. Just trust yourself and trust your body and the sprog will come out.
Three: Er, I don't know how to put this, it's going to hurt, sorry. I haven't done it and even I know it's going to hurt. But, again, your body knows what it's doing it's designed to do this, so take it easy on yourself!
Four: Do not read anything else about labour/birth! Your ante-natal classes will tell you everything you need to know. (and probably more than you need to know tbh!) Seriously, you'll scare yourself (and probably me vicariously, I scare very easily). Don't listen to other people (no one ever tells you the nice stories!) unless they're being positive and if they're not ask them exactly why they think it's fun to tell a pregnant woman horror stories?
Five: Also carefully reading up on pain relief here and as far as I can tell there's pros and cons to all of them. I think the reason so much is focused on them is that in pain and in labour is not the best time to be learning whereas if we prepare ourselves now if we need something we know what we're talking about? If the pain is too much you have some pain relief, simple as! And you will understand the pros and cons by then, and you can be guided by the midwife as to which is the most appropriate for you at that point.
Blimey, another essay from me, sorry, I have really quite severe anxiety, I worry about the normal stuff (and some abnormal stuff as well!) but far far more than is healthy. I'll not go into details (becuase it's long and dull!) but essentially I'm getting really good at rationalising/thinking through stuff now!
Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm scared witless too, you're not alone Polly! But I'm trying to keep rationalising things otherwise I know I'll make myself ill! And yes, I do have a unique way of putting things (often nicked from other people!) this is actually how I talk in rl as well, I'm hard work ;-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
Thanks Fritha. That was most helpful. I know it is going to hurt and that I can accept (sigh), but I can just imagine the midwife going, "Oh get over it. You can cope" and not give me anything. Don't trust doctors much me. Or that they will leave me for ages before they decide that a c-section is for the best.
My sil has just had a baby, but in Austria, where they seem much better about everything (she has 2 1/2 years off maternity leave). She said labour hurt and left it at that. Thanks sis! She was in labour 7 hours before they decided that were going to take the baby out as she was dilating enough quickly enough. I can just see me being left on my own in labour with no choice about what to do. I've read the papers and watched the news. England seems really bad for all this, esp where I am.
Okay, calm down, stop fretting. Right, gonna stop reading now!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Bf said to me last night that he would carry the baby for me and go through the pain of childbirth if it meant I didn't have to as he thinks I'm such a wuss.
But it's easy for him to say that when there's no possibility of it happening, isn't it?! :rolleyes:Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

No one is gonna think you are pathetic at all Pollyanna. I am being induced early with number 3 on Mon and to tell you the truth am absolutely !!!!ping a brick over it. My previous births I have barely needed pain relief, but this could be the one that is different. No one knows how much any of their pregnancies are gonna hurt as each are different, all you need to keep in mind is yes it may hurt a lot and just be prepared by reading up on all the differing pain relief you can get.
Take no notice of horror stories, I think some people either get a kick out of frightning new mothers or just run comps on how much of a pain threshold they have and end up greatly over exagerating. The thing with labour and birth pain to remember is that altho it is painful, it is a good pain in a way and you soon forget about it. It's very hard to describe, but you will get it as soon as you have your first child. It can't be that bad if many people go on to have second, third, fourth etc babies.
Don't worry or fret, you will cope. Women were designed to give birth and have done since the beginning of time! It's totally normal to be scared, but all that will soon disappear when you get to it. You just concentrate on the end goal of holding your little one at the finish line.I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here0 -
:rotfl:
I added myself to the list a while ago, but seem to have disappeared! Oh well, i'm back on now.
Going for my first scan Tuesday - i'm so excited, but keep dreaming about twins!!
Also feel so big with No.3. I'm only 9 weeks but my jeans don't fit me anymore. Normally a comfy size 12, but have had to move up to a 14 already. And a few people have asked me if i was expecting! How upset i'd be if i wasn't! Ha ha ha!
Has anyone else got bigger quicker with no.3 or more. A couple of people have said it pops out quicker after no.1 as your stomach muscles are already !!!!!!ed!
Anyway, I've got DS11 and DS7, so this one is a pleasant suprise!!
HI, I have 3 at the moment, No4 due nxt year!!
I also put on loads of weight with my no3, and he turned out to be 10lb 11oz,
I am hoping to have an op after the next one to have a tummy tuck to get my stomach muscles 'put' back together as they are still streched since having my 2 year old!!
Good luck and hope yours isnt 10lb!!!:eek:I miss my mum every minute of every dayR.I.P xx

awww polly dont worry to much honestly the worrying makes it worse.
i cant lie it does hurt but if u go in not so worried about the pain and kinda accept that yes theres some degree of pain thats unavoidable but u can have help with it.talk to your midwife if u are really scared they are there to help and guide and support and shouldnt be at all horrible with you.
there is lots of horror stories around labours ive been lucky none of mine where what i would call bad the worst i had was weeing alot with every push this time and with my daughter i poo'd myself in the mother in laws car lol.
embarressing but i laughed about it and it wasnt so bad.
if u keep saying to yourself yes i can do this every day by the time it comes ul be more confident.even after 2 i was worried with my 3rd and it helped to talk to my partner he was understanding.
this time i had pethidine and that wasnt half as bad as ppl had told me it was i was sick once but apart from that i was fine.
i have every confidence that in you hun so try not to worry to much xxxriley john born june 28th 2.35pm-8lb14.5 hour labour from waters to birth.0 -
