Hi girls,
I am 12 weeks pregnant now and just starting to get a bit biggerWhich pieces of clothing did you feel have worked best throughout your pregnancy? Any brands that felt more comfortable or smart? I will look to get some black trousers, jeans and some tops soon but only a few shops here actually stock the maternity wear and I find it difficult to judge from a picture on a website.. Any advice much appreciated!
:j Mette0 -
hi i got some pants from qs which are from next they are really comfory and some tops from DP.0

Under bump jeans, Black Jersey Maternity wideleg trousers and black jersey skirt from the maternity range at Next - had to order online as neither of our local stores are big enough to have it in stock. You can order online and return to store once you have tried on at home though. Don't bother with on-bump jeans - they are just uncomfortable and feel like they are cutting in when you sit down.0

i got some jeans from new look for £8.00 they are so comfy.
i got some jeans from ebay that have a bump band so the band goes over the bump they are by far the comfiest ones i own.
it really is trial and error tbh as some are more comfy for others and not comfy for others.i recomend looking in charity shops and ebay as if they arnt comfy u can at least sell them again for around the same price.riley john born june 28th 2.35pm-8lb14.5 hour labour from waters to birth.0 -
morning all! Anyone up yet?!
Congratulations 3 kids!!!! :j
Well, hope everyones okay, and Hi to all the newbies!!
I went to hospital yesterday for baby to be monitored as he wasnt moving (he has a habit of doing that lately!) and had an internal (which showed my cervix was all ready for labour!) - and I started having contractions every 8 minutes, quite strong ones, so i was sent home to wait.... i was getting them every 5 minutes last night up until I went to bed,
I woke up at about 7am this morning and have only had a few?? which are quite mild compared to what they were last night.
So i've sent OH to work to await events... anyone have any idea why they were coming strong last night but have now slowed down?? I dont know what to do with myself to help the labour along?? Its horrible being in the house by myself just waiting!!! Surely it cant be a false alarm?? as the midwife told me i was in labour last night??
By the way babys due in 3 days!!

Unless the contractions are regular then you aren't in labour - that's what my midwife told me. Sounds like we are at the mercy of the midwives!! I think maybe your body was just getting you ready -- you've not got long now! Give your maternity suite a call and see what they think to set your mind at reast, and good luck! I think someone may be having a baby today!!

I have a quick maternity leave question which I wondered if anyone can help with.
I had originally planned to work for as long as I could, but I can appreciate that I may well not be able to do this. I work in London and have a 3 hour commute (there and back) each day.
I haven't taken any holiday leave so far this year and just wondered if anyone has saved their annual leave and taken this in advance of their maternity leave? Just wondered if it affected anything if I tried to do this.
With this as my new plan, I would work until the end of July, take August as annual leave, September and half October as 90% and then the maternity pay would kick in. I am due 22nd October (although I think I am a few weeks' further gone than the doctors think I am).
I am not planning on working in London after the baby is born, so not sure if the fact that I'm not coming back affects anything? Can anyone help?
EDIT: I suppose what I'm looking for as well is a link to somewhere that says your holiday entitlements still count for when you are on maternity leave. I can see my boss going, "well you're leaving at the end of August, but you won't have accrued enough holiday to have an extra four weeks off" and try and do it on a pro rata thing (if you see what I mean). I'm sure I read somewhere they your holiday leave still adds up on maternity leave, just can't remember where.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Pollyanna,
I saved 3 weeks annual leave to take before my maternity started with no problems. I also still accrue holiday pay which I have to take before my maternity leave ends, think it's the same for everyone. I think the only problem you might face is if you leave before you've accrued all the holidays you've taken.
PS directgov website should have the answers, it's really good0 -
Does anyone know what happens if you get made redundant during pregnancy? Last year my company closed an office and I should have been made redundant, but due to the experience of a couple of us, they offered us homeworking. We have just been informed another office is closing, but this should not be a problem for us (although there is no definate guarantee). We are looking to start ttc in August and therefore I worry if they decided a little bit after that they did want to make us redundant - where would I stand with regards to maternity pay?? I would obviously have to get another job, but I don't know how difficult that would be if I was pregnant and where would I stand with this?0
