MSE pregnancy club II

septemberbaby - you want another?? I remember reading back when you were pregnant and then willing her to come! Would you prefer a smaller age gap between them?? I'd like roughly a 2yr gap I think, but who knows when the time comes!
Can't wait 'til DH and I start ttc - I've already started making sure we eat healthily and that I get regular exercise.
Any tips on how long before starting ttc I should think about taking pre-natal vitamins? What type are best? I take it there's no harm in taking them for a number of months if it can take a while to conceive?

I guess ive been lucky in the sense that i havent actually been sick either, but have had lots of indigestion/heartburn, and going off a few things. Ive had the tiredness from early on-totally sucked away my energy! The worst thing right now is my moods are going up and down-and i sometimes feel upset but dont know why, or the opposite and ill be realy happy looking at baby things! hormones!

Im not sure if im showing yet, the trouble is i normally have a round tummy anyway so i probably just look a bit podgy-er lol. Are you showing at all?

Hi, the consultant muttered something about my bloods/blood pressure-to be honest i was a tad overwhlemed and confused by this point! I have high blood pressure, so im on medication for this (and had to swap to a safer one) and on a low dose of aspirin to help with the blood flow or something. I was told i'd been watched over more then usual, and fingers crossed i can keep my bp to a safe level as id prefer a natural birth if possible.

Oh ive just remembered the 20 week scan is in a different place to where i had the first scan, and i was told the 22 week one would be back at where the first one took place-so i assume it'll just to keep an eye on things maybe?

Hi guys. I am 8 weeks pregnant. Thought I was more, but have had two scans and that is what the lady at the hospital told me.

Now I think it's a case of seeing the midwife. Do I just ring up the doctors and ask the receptionist that I want to make an appointment with the midwife? I've already seen the doctor, he was the one that sent me for the early scans.

I thought you had to see the midwife before being sent for scans? I first saw my gp, who gave me the midwifes number to ring up, and i also filled out forms there and then (you'll get sent a card so you can get free prescriptions etc). Once i'd seen the midwife, and had blood tests etc i was sent a letter from the maternity unit with an appointment for the first scan and to see the consultant etc. So you've done things back to front to me! My gp couldnt make the midwife appointment for me either-i had to ring her up myself to arrange it.

Teehee. Back to front. Sounds about right.

I went to see the doctor as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I was panicking a little as there was spotting etc (all turned out to be implatation, but like I said, I thought I was further along than I thought) and he sent me along for a scan the very next day.

I toddled along to the hospital and the lady who did the scan said she couldn't see very much and I must only be 5 weeks pregnant and asked me to come back in two weeks' time for another scan so they could check it was growing etc.

So I had another scan last Friday and she said that she wouldn't need to see me again till I was 20 weeks (think I miss the 12 week scan as she was able to give me a due date).

And that was that. So now I'm not sure if I need to go back and see the doctor again or maybe just book an appointment for the midwife. I remember the scan lady saying there was no point seeing the doctor as he would just refer me to the midwife.

Ok, looks like you'll need to pop into your gp surgery and ask the receptionist for the midwifes number (i assume they'll have it, as mine did).

I still see my gp regularly, but thats only because of my bp and meds. So unless you have problems you'll just see the midwife

Ive found it rather confusing as to when you should do what, as different areas seem to do things at different times and some people dont even get a scan untill 20 weeks! So at least you know a definate date now and all is going well so far

How's your OH? Mine is now very protective over me and bump

Yeah, bf is very protective over me which is a good thing.

He's been nagging me to ask my boss if I can take my 4 weeks holiday for this year just before my maternity leave, but I think at 8 weeks, it's a bit early to be talking about maternity leave (even if I have worked out when I'm thinking of leaving ).

I'm getting a bit worried about how to claim for all the benefits that we'll be entitled to. I've got my little budget all set up which is all great and everything, but not if I'm waiting months for any money to go into my bank.

I've worked out we are entitled to maternity pay, child benefit and child tax credit (well only just as together we earn £58K and I know this is the threshold. However, I won't be earning my half, will I? Cos I will be on maternity leave and I'm not sure if they take my wages into account even if I'm not getting them iyswim).

Arrggh!! Stresses or what?!!!
