yay 3kids, you must be so relieved it's all over now and you have a chance to get back to normality (is it easier with 4? :D ). Glad all your worries were unfounded :)

Pollyanna, haven't done the caribbean while pregnant, but i certainly didn't bother having any injections for it, they're only "recommended" and the chances of picking anything up there are fairly slim.... just take lots of that antiseptic hand gel stuff!

BP was down to normal today after my 2nd trip to hospital yesterday for monitoring, so got tomorrow free of checkups. Sunday I'm 40+7 so the m/w's coming round again to double check bp still ok and to try another sweep since there was no access yesterday!:rotfl: Really need to keep bp down so they have no excuse to deny the homebirth option....have bumped into some very unsympathetic m/ws in the last week which has upset me a bit since it was all going so well until Tuesday. :(

    Hi,

I'm new to posting, but have been lurking around for a very long time now. This site is brilliant.

My husband and I had a lovely (unexpected) surprise a couple of weeks ago when we found out I was pregnant. :T It's still early days but I like to be prepared, and would appreciate any advice.

What will we need to buy in the up and coming months? This is our first baby so will need everything! I don't want to waste money on un-necessary stuff or things that people have tried and would recommend or avoid.

We don't sell or buy from ebay. I will be buying new. I'll also be looking out for BOGOF offers on toiletries - what should I keep an eye out for?

We'll probably start buying in the next cople of months. So please steer us throught this crazy new world of bottle warmers and car seats, please!

    Thank you :hello:

    Firstly congratulations to you both!!
Avoid bottle warmers they are a waste of money(imho) all you need is a plastic jug (NOT glass). If you need to warm milk up during the night invest in a cheap kettle to keep upstairs (£5 from tesco or asda)
When choosing a carseat you need to consider if you want it to fit on a puchchair to use as a travel system, if you do then you'll need to chose a pushchair first and make sure you go to a reputable shop and get the carseat fitted properly before you set your heart on it.
You will always find offers on wipes etc and never think you have too many you won't believe how quick you get through them!
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to
use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.:D

congratulations - the only advice I would ever pass on is DON'T LISTEN TO OTHER PEOPLES LABOUR STORIES. Put your hands over your ears and sing as loud as you can. I ended up having nightmares, really. I found that some people take great delight in putting the fear of God into you when your pregnant with their, longest, most painful, most complicated labour stories. The worst are the new Dads who actually haven't had much of a clue whats going on but still feel able to tell the tale minute by minute. In our NCT classes, a bloke actually came 2 days after his wife gave birth to tell a story Steven Spielburgh would've been proud of - honestly, we rather thought he should have been at home.

Enjoy YOUR pregnancy, take all the advice you like the sound of and ignore the rest. If you have any concerns at any time, speak to your midwife - don't worry if you feel stupid, that is what she is there for and anything you ask she WILL have heard before, i promise.

    lots of luck x

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

    My tips are:

Sign up to all the baby clubs such as boots, sainsburys, tesco, bounty etc for freebies and vouchers as well as loads of advice and ideas.

Dont buy cute expensive newborn clothes like I did (£35.00 for a babygro from GAP that was worn once and then stained with baby sick!) Ethels and Primark do packs of vests and babygros for a few quid and they grow out of them so quick they dont need to be long lasting.

If family and friends are likely to buy you things tell them what you want otherwise everyone buys newborn baby clothes that they never get chance to wear. I asked for bigger sized clothes with my second baby.

Get stuff for the following year in the sales - i am currently buying next years winter coats!

Contrary to popular belief babies dont have to be expensive! x x

    Congratulations

Firstly bin the Mothercare catalogue as you don't need half the things they say you need!

Think about baby's basic needs first and how you are going to meet them, such as where is baby sleeping, how will you feed, where would you bath baby etc. Then look for products that will meet your needs.

You'll find that baby never has a need for things like nappy disposal systems and co-ordinating lampshades and stuff like that ;)
Here I go again on my own....
