Congrats to mandycutiepie. I hope everything goes really well for you.
Mandy - I hadn't even thought about bath towels. No idea. I'm sure two would be enough though. Is there an opportunity to shower or bath afterwards? I don't know. Are you having a water birth too?Baby Ember

Some good ideas for hospital bag. Even though i have had 3 kids i am still unsure what to pack - how do you know how big your baby is going to be for size of babygrows? Never bothered with oils, candles, etc. as i have never really wanted birth to be like that - just want to get it over with.
mandy2383 - i know what you mean about it seems like other peoples pregnancies go quick but your own lasts forever. I feel like i have been pregnant for years. I am taking 2 old towels, quite small bath towels that i can throw again and then one small new towel for baby. Good idea to write list for OH - i have done a list of what the kids do when for mine or whoever looks after them, even writing what they like for pack up - my OH wouldn't have a clue.
Tonight would be a good night for me to have baby as could arrange childcare easily and the house isn't too messy, cupboards are stocked up, etc - well you have to think about these things. I just know i am going to be overdue. Truly sick of feeling as though my bottom is falling out and constantly needing a wee. But really not looking forward to having a flabby belly and bleeding again - i know i will miss my bump, especially as i know this is definitely my last baby. Definitely.
Anyway, welcome any newbies and please post as i love to read what everyone else is up to an this site is a great source of help and advice and support.now mum of 4!!!0 -
Im not having a water birth, its really strange because the midwife or health visitor hasn't talked about the birth with me, makes me feel a little silly not knowing things:o .
On the leaflet that I have about the hospital i will be going to, says to bring towels for a bath or shower after the birth, my sister had her little girl there in november and she had a bath after the birth, so I am guessing I will be offered the opportunity too.Its quite crazy feels like I am packing to go on holiday, or is that just wishful thinking lol
0 -
Hell no - pack for that holiday - bikini, sun tan lotion, sun glasses etc.....
I think I'd better go and pack some towels! Also you would only need normal towels, don't buy any special ones as you'll be all clean when you're using them anyway.
Also question your midwife. If you're uncertain about anything then glean all the info you can from her. You could write a list of unanswered questions and then fire them at her the next time you see her. It's far better to know what's going on than be left in the dark about it all. Normally midwifes don't really say much - you have to be quite pushy and grill them for all they know.Baby Ember

lol miss_be think i will do
health visitor did give me one bit of advice, she said to pack everything i would need for delivery and what the baby would need straight away in a seperate bag, so that if the midwife or your OH needs to get them out they are not having to root through your bag to find things, another quite simple thing i wouldn't have thought of.
Thanks for the tip I think I am going to make a list of questions to ask the midwife next time, after all thats what she is there for. I didn't even know till I looked at my notes that baby was 3/5, they are really nice midwife and doctor just not very good at telling you things.
Not long now miss_be just noticed your due date, i bet you are getting really excited now, not too long till you are holding your baby0 -
Indeed not long now! I'm feeling quite ready and prepared and excited. I'm a little fed up that people keep on thinking that I'm going to be fed up already and wanting my baby out. I'm quite happy to wait until she's ready. She'll come out in her own time.
I'm just enjoying relaxing at the moment and taking things steady. I've still got things to do but there's no rush. Typically, the drawer that holds all the terry toweling nappies broke yesterday so I've got to fix that. Otherwise I'm just chilling.
I'm also in the house on my own this weekend as OH has gone to stay at his parents house with his daughter as she's got chicken pox. I didn't want to catch it off her at this late stage. So we agreed it would be better for him to see her there. It feels quite liberating to be home alone really. Also I don't really want to be seeing too many people at the moment as I feel like I need to gather my strength for the home stretch. Not long now though. It's all very exciting.
Also the good news is that my herpes has gone which means, if all goes to plan, I'll be able to have the home water birth too. I still can't quite believe this little thing that's jigging round inside me is a little person who'll be coming out soon. It's really a miracle. That's me at the moment! Quite a blurt out! xxxBaby Ember

aw bless hope your OH daughter gets better soon, ive started to get like that really appreciate the time I have on my own, just making the most of things before baby arrives.
I dont so much get the I bet you are fed up, i get haven't you dropped yet or could you have him on so and so date I am on holiday then:rolleyes: . Yeah sure I will have a word and ask him to do that.
Thats great news about your herpes clearing up, I really hope you can have the water birth you want, its really nice that you would be able to have the birth that you wanted.
I think I am going to quite miss not having him in my tummy anymore, its the strangest thing but its a feeling you cant really explain that you are so close to your baby and you already have a bond that no one else has yet, listen to me lol and this is coming from someone that never really had an interest in having children, and now i wouldn't change it for the world0 -

Hi BarginAholic - congratulations to you. What a lovely day to find out on. I've just had a look on line and some say that Movicol can be used but under the doctor's orders and others say it's better not to use during pregnancy. So it's best to wait and see what your doc says. In the meantime could you try prune juice - I know a lot of constipated pregnant women swear by it. Of course it's not something that your local shop sells so you'd have to wait till tomorrow to get some!Baby Ember

It is pretty amazing really. I'm always curious as to how much the little one really knows that it's inside this big pod! Of course they can hear you but how much can they understand that we are outside and they're coming out soon too. Who knows.
I read in a book that some people actually remember being in the womb and they thought things like: 'I exist', 'I can move' and then on being born that: 'finally an opening appeared and I began to move towards it. For the first time I felt apprehension'. Now that's pretty amazing. I certainly can't remember anything before about 3 1/2 years old!Baby Ember
