    Hiya Nicci

I am 39 weeks today and although I totally agree with everyone that my movements are less than they used to be - I would ring the labour ward and have a chat with them. I am 99% sure they will bring you in and hook you up to a monitor just to check all is well. This happened to me on New Years day and as soon as I entered the labour ward she started to move ( I was soo embarassed as felt like I was being neurotic) but they were so lovely and I was told if it happened again to call them.
They would rather see you x

Let us know how you get on.

If you ring NHS direct they will tell you to contact your local maternity ward.

  • Hello all

Just a quick question about the 20 week scan for those of you that have found out your baby's sex that way. I've got mine on Wednesday and really want to know the sex this time. It's my third but we lived in a different area when I was pregnant before and they wouldn't tell you the sex there so this is my first experience. How sure have they been when telling you the sex? - Just read on another board that someone who had been told they were 'probably' having a girl gave birth to a boy. I know they can't be 100% accurate but have they been fairly certain when telling you the sex?

    Thanks

Congrats to Mennie and Wondermum. Good luck to you both.

I just thought that I'd post about the benefits and tax credits that I'm going for after the birth and the order that I'm doing it in as it might help some of you.

I’ve tried, as much as possible, to get the forms beforehand and fill them in as much as possible. If there is a bit that I haven’t filled in then I note the page number and section name and attach it to the front on the form with a paperclip. This makes it a lot easier and quicker when coming to fill in the rest of the info.

    So:
    * Child Benefit - I've rung 0845 302 1444 already to get the form. There is a 2/3 week wait for them to send the form out at the moment. You can fill in a downloadable form and print it off from the link below but it's 12 pages long. You can also wait until you have given birth as you normally get the form given to you in the Bounty pack. Here's the link with more info:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/YourMoney/DG_10016699

    * Child Tax Credits – you can call 0845 300 3900 once your child is born and you’re receiving Child Benefit (as you need the Child Benefit reference number to do it) to make this claim over the phone. My partner tried to get a claim pack sent out using this number but was unable to get one. You can possible give the Working Tax Credit info at the same time if you are updating your claim. Here’s the link with more info:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/TaxCreditsandChildBenefit/TaxCredits/DG_4015478

    * Working Tax Credit - (we’re already claiming but will have to inform them of all this new benefit we are getting. We might get more money too) - you can call to get a claim pack on 0845 300 3900 and fill it in as much as possible before the birth if you aren’t already receiving it. Ring the same number if you are updating your information. Don’t forget to ask: if you are receiving Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit - does it affect the claim. Will you need to ring back with any updated info? Here's the link with more info:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/TaxCreditsandChildBenefit/TaxCredits/DG_4015483

    * Sure Start Maternity Grant – you get the SF100 Sure Start Maternity Grant before giving birth from the jobcentre. This particular grant is confusing as most people think that they aren’t eligible if they aren’t on benefits. However there is this: ‘Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element’ policy, which basically means once you are receiving child tax credits you are eligible or at least most people who earn under £55,000 a year are eligible. (I think that’s the correct amount but I could be wrong) It’s better to go for it than not though! If you are on Income Support of Income Based Jobseekers Allowance you can claim it when you are 29 weeks pregnant to when the babes 3 months old. Here’s a link with some more info:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018854

    * Housing Benefit + Council Tax Benefit – (we’re already claiming) you can get the forms from your local council and fill them in as much as possible before the birth if you aren’t already claiming them. If you are updating a claim then you need to gather all the benefits and tax credits info, once you’ve got it, and take them into your council office. We are already receiving both but once the baby is born and we have all the new updated amounts we are receiving we can get more help. The Housing Benefit is dependant of how much Tax Credit help you get as well; this is why you need to do this last. Now I don’t know if, once you are getting Housing Benefit, whether the Working Tax Credits need to know the amount you are receiving. So be sure to ask when calling the Working Tax Credits. Here’s some more info:

The Order To Do It In After The Birth:
    1. Call up the local birth registry place and make an appointment to register the birth. Our registry has a week or two wait at the moment. If you aren’t married then both the mother and father needs to go there if you both want to be on the birth certificate. If you are married the father can just go in by himself. There is a Statutory Declaration form that can be filled in if the father isn’t present, however this form needs to be witnessed by a magistrate or solicitor or some such person. Here’s a link with all the info and a list of the information that you’ll need to take with you:
    http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/registeringabirth/index.asp

    2. Once you’ve got the birth certificate send it off with the Child Benefit Claim pack. You must send the original birth certificate and not a copy.

    3. Once you know you are receiving Child Benefit, ring to claim the Child Tax Credit (0845 300 3900) or send off the form you’ve got.

    4. You might be able to sort out your Working Tax Credits at the same time as the Child Tax Credits. If not call again or send off the forms too. Don’t forget to ask whether they need to know about how much Housing Benefit you will be getting later on, if needs be.

    5. Once you know you are getting the Child Tax Credit then fill in the rest of the Sure Start Maternity Grant form and send it off.

    6. Once you know how much Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit you are getting then send off the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit forms or drop them into your local council or go into the council with all the updated information to update your claim.

And that’s it. Phew  . I hope it helps. xxx

On another note don't forget to see if you are eligible for Healthy Start. It's vouchers for fruit, veg, milk etc. Here's a link with some info:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018986

Please note that I haven't actually done any of the 'The Order To Do It In After The Birth' as I still haven't given birth so some things might be different as to how I've posted. Just be aware of this when applying for any of these benefits and credits. x

  • From what I've heard it's a lot easier to identify a boy, they're a lot more certain. With girls they tend to be a little less certain as it's not quite so easy to tell. They never guarantee 100% one way or the other, but tend to say more that it's possibly / probably a girl.
  • They said to me ' looks like a girl' and she said it a couple of times throughout the scan then added we cant be 100% sure. I think they say that to cover themselves and if they weren't sure they would tell you they couldn't tell.:p My midwife said sounds like a girl (from the heartbeat) anything over 140 is usually a girl and my babies has been 154-160 all the time

    Hiya x

They will tell you if they can but as my grumpy sonographer pointed out its an anomoly scan and not a sexing scan so their main priority is to check baby is okay. Which is obviously what you want first and foremost.
I paid £65 and had a gender scan - which was soo lovely. I would absolutely reccomend it.

  • Thanks, just hope it hasn't got it's legs crossed then!

Edit: After seeing alison's post....If it has I will definitely consider doing that....would have to persuade hubby though who thinks 4D scans are a waste of money!
  • hi all, and congratulations to all you who have had your babies now! (bun yours is so gorgeous!!!)

Anyway Ive just come on to get some advice really, as im worrying myself to death at the moment!!
Im 36+5 weeks pregnant with first baby and im only measuring at just under 32 weeks!!! He hasnt grown since i was 32 weeks as he keeps being measured the same. I have a scan booked for tuesday, but obviously waiting until then and worrying is horrible.
For the last 4 weeks the midwifes kept measuring him small and just kept ignoring it- but now as im at the 'magic 36 weeks' they actually took notice and agreed that that is rather small and have arranged a scan, but none of them can seem to tell me why he may be small? or what will happen at the scan?? (like am i likely to be induced????)
Im getting braxton hicks all the time now (rather painful!!!) but his head apparently still isnt enagaged.
Also ive been told that hes lying back to back- so ive been on the old birthing ball to try and change hs postion but to no avail!!!

Also my partner is being a right pain lately and not really giving me any support- i think its beacuse he amy be worried himself- but doesnt really help me! hes just drinking loads and being really moody. Has anyone else had this with their parntners???

Anyway really sorry to just moan on here but really worried- if anyone has been in the same situation or knows anything about it please let me know as I just cant get any info form midwifes or google and waitng until tues is a killer!!

    Thanks
    samantha
    xx
  • Regarding sexing baby - i don't think i would go on the scan alone and buy pink or blue on what that says. if you go on to have diagnostic tests then you can find out for sure then - i had an amnio and know for sure that i am having a boy. Would have loved a 4d scan but they are expensive.

Samantham06 - hope the scan goes ok. I have had the worries about measuring small and have seen 2 different midwifes who measure different ways! was told last week that my midwife measured someone at 32 weeks at 36 weeks and she went on to have a 9lb baby - so it isn't always accurate. i wasn't terribly big with my last child and he as 9lb. Try not to google too much as too much information - right or wrong - isn't always a good thing.

We are always told in books/magazines to tell your midwife if you are dehydrated, not feeling movement, and similar things and most of the time you tell them these things and they just brush them off - not very reassuring at all.
    now mum of 4!!!
