  • Wow loads of questions lol.

Prenatal vitamins - I took my prenatal vitamins for the first 12/16 weeks and then I was advised that I could continue to take them throughout my pregnancy (even onto breastfeeding) if I wanted but it wasn't particularly necessary.

Stats - I don't know what the stats are but if you are both young, fit and in good health then I see no reason why you wouldn't fall pregnant more or less within 6 months or so.

Appointments - are different in every area and depend on the healthcare providers. Here where I live I had my scan about 12 weeks and then afterwards varied appointments. They started at every 6 weeks, down to every 4 and then finishing on every 2 weeks/1 week towards the end.

Early scan - It would really depend again on your health and what your doctor would advise. I have had a history of miscarriages and I had an ectopic months before I got pregnant and on my doctors advise I was sent to an EPA (Early pregnancy assessment) unit at my local hospital for a scan at 7 weeks.

Downs - If your family has a history or higher risk of an illness that is likely to be passed onto the baby, your doctor/midwife will do everything to set your mind at rest.

Labour - Most hospitals prefer you stay at home for as long as you can cope with the pain before heading in to them. I would advise you go when your ready, not when a nurse thinks your about to drop lol

    p.s stop worrying ;)

Argh I can't sleep, I'm going to be knackered by the time we reach the hospital. Worried already lol

  • Thanks Sugarcubed.

I'm not so much worried as trying to prepare myself well in advance, even though I'm guessing all prep will go completely out of the window at the most important times!!!

Hope you're cuddling your little one soon :)

Hi Everyone! I need to add myself to the list! Do I simply copy and paste? How is everyone getting on? I'm 27 weeks today so not long now - only just started to get my bump though so have been struggling for work clothes until I hit ebay. Got a gorgeous black jersey dress from Next for £2.20 (+£2 P&P) and a brand new topshop dress for £9.99 delivered in the post this morning so I actually have some lovely dresses for Christmas time! I have to say I hit H&M and picked up a few cheap tops yesterday as well. Baby has been kicking around all week. I am so excited!! Must get some exercise in before baby is born - I have been so lazy! What is everyone else doing to get fit? (If at all - I personally have been loving sitting on the sofa with a good book!)

    Hello!

Copy & paste yourself on to the list. Make sure you use a recent one.

Well done on the Ebay bargains! I had some fantastic bits & bobs off there!
I didn't start to show until i was about 32 weeks! It was driving me mad as i had really bad bump envy. I've more than made up for it now though.
Exercise...what's that!? :rotfl: I 've not bothered! But i've only put on a stone & i'm now 39 weeks so i'm not bothered. I suppose i walk a fair bit (from shop to shop) you know how it is!
Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!

Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:

There's history of Downs in my family (although the mothers were over 40 each time) and it's something that would play on my mind. Do you know if it would be possible to have bloods monitored for hormone levels early on as I know when rates tripple daily this can signify a Downs baby or multiples. Do you know if the Dr's may do this to give peace of mind? Or whether I'd be best not knowing until say the 20 week scan where there's a chance it could be seen? I wouldn't want an amnio as I feel there are too many risks.

You can have a nuchal scan (non evasive) at 11 weeks which will give you the odds of having a downs child. They measure something at the back of the baby's neck(?) Some hospitals will do it as routine (if you consent) or you can pay to have it done privately. It varies from area to area. You can also have a CVS done which is similar to an ammnio with similar risks but can be performed earlier. Given your family history you might persuade your doctors to refer you.
  • Yeah, I've seen the scans (something to do with the transparancy of the baby on the u/s), but apparently they're not overly reliable without other tests such as the amnio. I wouldn't want any tests with any risk to the baby.

I guess at the time, these things will come up and can be discussed then. I know there's loads of people on here, each with their own little story and any information given would be useful on any part of ttc and pregnancy.
I don't like the American sites as they seem to have scans and appointments every other day (slight exaggeration, but only slight!!) and a lot of the chat is about weight!
