  • Hi all
Add me because we have just found out that Im pregnant:beer:
Im not due until Aug 08, but cant believe its happened again...soo excited
But now Im starting to recall the horror of labour as the memories come flodding back:eek: ...just joking!!!!:rotfl:
Has anyone seen the thread about pregnancys best kept secrets?

Also I was told that after your first pregnancy you dont need to attend the midwife as much as you did previously? Is this true?

Also this time around Im quite bloated and off savoury foods, cant remember how I felt at this stage last time:confused: Anyone else at the early stages 5-6 weeks?

    Thanks!!!!!
  • Congrats Helend!

Right, tomorrow is D day. I wish everyone a happy and healthy christmas.

Hospital went well today, they actually think headache might be a migraine, rather than pre-eclampsia. Have given me some painkillers, which have definitely taken the edge off it and I don't have to go back again until Monday, unless it gets worse or I get other symptoms.

They also confirmed that head is fully engaged now, which is really exciting. Hopefully won't be waiting too much longer for my little one to come.

Sugarcubed - good luck for tomorrow, hope everything goes well.

Becky - Just do the point on each foot for 10 minutes at a time and see how it goes, but get OH to do it and give you a nice foot massage at the same time - that way you get to lie back and relax instead of trying to touch your toes at 9 months pregnant lol.

Try and get a 1/2 hour foot massage tonight and another in the morning. Won't hurt. ;)

Hope you're holding your little-one sooner rather than later!!
  • I've got some questions I'd really appreciate any answers people might be able to give.

Prenatal vitamins - when did you guys start taking these? Is it meant to be for a couple of months before we would start ttc? Should these be taken until the end of the first 12 weeks, or continued throughout pregnancy and perhaps even through breastfeeding? If so - are these available on prescription once pregnant?

For a couple in their mid-20's, does anyone know what the stats are for conceiving? I've always been pretty regular and only took the pill (microgynon) for 3months and will have been off it for over 2yrs by the time we'll start trying for a baby.

How many appointments is average (from reading through I think there's quite a difference depending on location) and when do people generally have their first scan? Even now I think I'd really want an early one, around the 6 week mark, just to check everything was going ok at that point. Would I then have a dating scan around 12-14 weeks and another at 20 weeks and that's it if everything is going along smoothly? Obviously, I'd see a midwife or Dr more than this, right?

There's history of Downs in my family (although the mothers were over 40 each time) and it's something that would play on my mind. Do you know if it would be possible to have bloods monitored for hormone levels early on as I know when rates tripple daily this can signify a Downs baby or multiples. Do you know if the Dr's may do this to give peace of mind? Or whether I'd be best not knowing until say the 20 week scan where there's a chance it could be seen? I wouldn't want an amnio as I feel there are too many risks.

My father had a cleft lip and palate, despite being genetically a lot more like my father, I did not. I know it's something that can be genetic, I also know it's totally fixable, but can't find any stats that would give me an idea of the liklihood of it.

When will / did most of you guys start maternity leave?? I'll be working from home and I think only 4days a week, so I think I should hopefully be able to go a bit longer, should all be healthy throughout.

With labour - is it better to stay at home as long as possible in a more relaxed and familiar place before going to the hospital? (provided everything is straight forward obviously!!)

The trials and tribulations of pregnancy really are worth it considering the outcome, aren't they?
