As i mentioned the other day i haven't like to call my midwife and when i did the other day she was on a course, so hopefully i won't have changed my mind about ringing tomorrow and will be able to get a visit.
I've had that a couple of times in my previous pregnancies. Felt it was my low blood pressure to blame though. Make sure you ring tomorrow!!0 -

Ooh, I had that once and got a right bollo.... telling off from the midwife for not phoning the hospital there and then . I saw her two days after my 'turn' and my blood pressure was high. Although by the time I arrived at the DAU three hours later, all was perfectly fine again.
Hope you're fine too.:wall:0 -

Sorry to hear you have been told you won't be able to bfeed Mandy (can I be nosey and ask why?). I befeed both of mine and fully expect to do the same with this next one if he/she is willing! However, I topped them up at night with a bottle for my own sanity and had trouble expressing when I returned to work with ds1 so did a combinations. DS2 weaned himself off the breast at 6mos so he had formula for the next 6.
Anyhoo, based on what my sis used, I tried both on SMA Gold to start with an then moved up the SMA line based on their age. Got on fine with it. As they got older I would occasionally try others, particulary if I had a coupon or they were on special offer! They were fine with them as well. However, I know of many mummies who have had to try a few to begin with to find one that doesn't end up all over them within minutes of a feed. So it's probably not a good idea to buy it in beforehand like you would with nappies and wipes.
I often used to buy the ready made cartons - not very ms I know but they can be so handy and sometimes the extra pennies are well spent. It's a fiddly business, formula making and at times the cartons are a god send.
Hope this helps0 -
Hi Mandy
I use Cow & Gate only because its what my MW brought to me in hospital when my baby was screaming for food! (I was planning to BF so had no brand preference). I have had no problems whatsoever with it and have never been tempted to switch just in case others don't agree with her.
There has recently been a discussion on the Parenting Thread about SMA Gold and how many babies have been sickly on it! Bit of a shock as I would probably have chosen that one if I had preplanned to bottle feed. Perhaps have a look at that thread? The mums are lovely over there!
I agree with Machairs that the ready made cartons are a godsend but expensive. We used them for the first few days after coming home and then moved on to the powder. Its easy once you get to grips with the steriliser and get into a routine.
Don't feel bad about not being able to BF. I fully intended to but it was not to be and Poppy is thriving.

Hi everyone,
I hope you are all ok and those of you that are at the end of your pregnancy I have everything crossed for you! I have a bladder infection today so my legs are permanently crossed anyway
We had our 20 week scan yesterday and everything is looking brilliant. She also told us that we are probably having a girl! We asked her how accurate the guess is and she said that she could be wrong but she is 'pretty sure' and that she definitely didn't see any dangly bits! (and the baby was VERY active throughout the whole 1/2 hour so I would be amazed if she missed them!)
So it looks like it's another girl for us!OH is delighted but is using the opportunity to say 'it's ok, cause we can try for a boy next time
We have to go back for a growth scan in 8 weeks to decide if I will need a c-section (I'm 5' 1" and my 1st daughter was 8lb 10oz!!). Other than that all is good.
Mandy; I'm really sorry you've been told you won't be able to breast feed. I was unsucessful when I tried to breastfeed after trying for nearly 2 weeks and felt like a complete failure, especially with all of the pressure on new mums to breastfeedBut my baby thrived on formula and she's now 10 and very healthy so please don't feel like your baby is getting 2nd best. I started off on the normal SMA but because she was a hungry baby I moved onto the hungry baby one after about 2 months and it helped her to settle better.

i am really surprised at this as i am only 5'2" and my last child was 9lb and nobody has ever mentioned a c-section. I am currently 27 weeks pregnant.

Sorry, I should have clarified that a bit better. Last time, my midwife told me 3 weeks before I went into labour 'it's a big baby! the head feels very big in relation to your birth canal so be prepared for a c-section'. 3 weeks later I went into a natural labour and was in labour for over 24 hours but for the last 4 or 5 hours couldn't progress any more than 8cm. In other words, the babies head was stuck!! This was despite the earlier warning signs from my midwife. I was then whisked in for an emergency c-section because the baby was getting distressed! My midwife this time has admitted that this is probably due to the fact that the hospitals are reluctant to do them because they cost too much money.
I have asked for them to check which route I will probably take this time. I don't care if it's a natural birth or c-section, but I don't want to go through both if it's avoidable!! So they are checking the baby's growth to see if it's going to be smaller. If it is then no worries, if it's a big un then they will book me in for a planned c-section a week before my due date.
It took my body about 3 months to get over the last birth and I don't have any family nearby to help (incl my partner's family) and my partner will only be off work for 2 weeks so I really just want to be more prepared. As much as you can be anyway
She wasn't saying that everyone who is small can't have a big baby, but for me it was just a bit too big to pop out naturally!
Sorry for the confusion, I just didn't want to bore everyone with the gory details of my life! :rotfl:We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
