I'm so annoyed with the bloody dr's surgery that i thought i'd come on here to moan about it.
I had to go in three separate times to get the same blood tests done because none of them could get any blood from my 'poor' veins, even though the blood donor people never have any problems. then i got a letter from the midwife (that i had to pay excess postage on even though the surgery is one street away) saying that they didnt get enough from me so i have to go back. So i phoned up and they've changed the number and it's now an automated line that costs more and keeps you waiting twice as long and plays muzak at you and then apparently there are no appointments with the nurse for three weeks and i should have phoned up earlier. So i pointed out the fact it was the nurse's fault, and she got all upitty and blamed the midwife. I said either way, it's not my fault and i'm not prepared to wait three further weeks to have tests taken that were supposed to be taken 4 weeks ago. so the nurse says i have to go to hospital and have the blood taken there, because she's just far too important and busy.

I'm starting to think, if they can't handle a blood test, how can they handle a birth?

i have "difficult veins" too, and i advise you to go to the hospital blood clinic for EVERY blood test... they are fantastic!
its all they do all day, so there is no mucking about :D

surgery doctors, midwives etc... none of them can get a drop from me (but most will quite literally have a stab  ) blood clinic nurses however, over and done with within seconds, no pain, no bruising.... no lollypop after mind you, but you cant have everything!

On the contrary with me. I do not have difficult veins and the only time I went to the phlebotomy (what a great word) clinic I got a lovely huge bruise on my arm. I had assumed they'd be good at it too! Now, Edie, the surgery nurse is an angel...

jbbonce, I do hope they stop mucking you about. Just go to hospital and they do it there and then...ish.

when my midwife said she was sending me for phlebotomy i cracked up,
"its only a few syringes of blood... surely i dont need a lobotomy!"

I get so riled by breastfeeding debates on here. There is such a huge range of people and opinions on this site which is fantastic for the most part but some things just make my blood boil, and this is one of them.

My midwife nearly butchered me trying to take blood, so I'll join the awkward veins club. My arm went lovely shades of blue, purple, then yellow afterwards and I had to see the nurse to have it done. When I was due for the second lot I decided to just make an appointment with the nurse (she was lovely and patient) and my midwife seemed really hacked off that I hadn't let her do it

Anyway I've had a long nap this afternoon and all pain has subsided so maybe baby was just in an awkward position after all and being stretched out has got him to move around a bit. Thanks everyone for preventing me from panicking earlier :o

    Hi everyone,

Another numpty questionb form a disorganised moi... I've totally lost the plot now as to when I'm supposed to have my next midwife appointment :o

This is my second baby and they've pretty much trusted me to make my own appointments etc with the doctors (what a mistake  :rotfl: I've been sooooooo disorganised this pregnancy... )

Anyway I'm about 30 weeks now (due 21st Aug) and have noooo idea what week I'm supposed to be booking my doctors appointment for. Anyone know when it should be please? If it makes a difference I'm in London

    Thanks again all :A

Inside my pregnancy notes *(green book), there is a page called pregnancy planner (pg4). My MW stuck a label there that tells me that I have some sort of appoinment, whether it be a scan or seeing MW, every four weeks from week 12.

If you are 30 weeks now, I imagine you would need to see someone within the next week or two, so just make an appoinment. Rather be safe then sorry, and then when you're finished that appointment, before you leave make your next appoinment.

However, if you are worried, or had complications this or previous times, I would contact MW immediately.

Thanks for the vein-related support everyone. I have calmed down somewhat now, and i'm looking forward to our first scan this afternoon. Hope everyone has a good day
:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T

    Hiya

I know the subject of antenatal classes has been brought up previously, but I decided to get my .... into gear. I have looked through the leaflets the MW gave me and local refresher antenatal classes in my area are £45, which I can handle. My issue, before I contact them, is do I have to become a member for another £36 too.

I would like to be able to attend the NCT nearly new sales, and I suppose I would like to join some of the groups they run, after baby has been born, but my tight.... instinct always seems to kick in.

Do you think it is worth it ? I am not entitled to any of the reductions.

I am having my second too. Appointments were four weekly till today when I get my 28wk check. Then I need to go 3 weekly, so 31 wks will be next. It then goes to 2 and 1 weekly.
