Did any of you watch the Lenny Henry thing on TV last night. I just caught the bit with the birth, which was lovely - not only did the lady have the coveted water birth (maybe that's just me, but only one pool at my hospital) but she also had at least three midwives in attendance. What hospital was that!

    Congratulations Dibdob!
If your symptoms ever bother you, do ask on here, as someone sometime has had the same and if not we can point at your doctor/mw for help. But yes, be prepared for any number of discomforts.
As for looking after your brother, stress is technically bad for baby, my hubby also got annoyed with me if I was stressing about anything (like that helped ) but I shouldn't think it is that bad. Just be sure you can get help when things get bad. You'll be stressed about the baby, the symptoms and generally really hormonal anyway.
As for the lifting, this is allowed as long as you do it properly. We've all had that lecture. Just don't overexert yourself.

Thanks again - its nice to have reassurance in this new 'alien life' that has just begun!!!!
Sounds terrible when I read some of you ladies moaning about twinges etc, but cant be that bad or humans wouldnt exist! (hahaha thats what I am telling myself anyway, and trying not to look too far ahead-otherwise I will just sit her with my legs crossed for 9 months feeling all tense!!!).
Think I will take each stage as it comes!!!!
Presuming the hot and cold flushes are hormines stabilising?? I was soooo hot last night, then freezing and teeth chattering? Ok now, but do get more hot flushes. Maybe its this cough thing I have got? Cant take anything as dont want to risk upsetting this tiny little baby!

alien life is spot on though dibdob - you are now merely the host ;) And it is that bad but knowing what's coming at the end makes it worthwhile (well most of it anyway :rotfl: ). Don't let the medics scare you too much about your age, yes it will make you a higher risk for some things but if you're healthy and active it shouldn't make any difference to your general pregnancy.

as for your brother - there will come a point where lifting will be nigh on impossible but in the early weeks the baby is very well protected so will be fine.

Reckon I will be the bain of your life ladies....but can anyone tell me about working out the due date? I have taken my last period start date which was 12th May, however mine is usually 27 days as oppose to 28. When I put that in it gives me one date but on a 28 cycle. Then I guess the conceived date, and its a different date...then another one asks me about the time after ovulation and the day before next period. Checking back, mine range between 11-13 days so which do I use? Or do I just wait to see what the doc says? How do they know?
    Thanks

just go with it from the first day of your last period and stick to a 28 day cycle - that's what the midwife and GP will do anyway so even if your cycle is different your official due date will be based on a 28 day cycle.

And of course you will be having your first scan in 7 weeks, when they will be able to date the pregnancy better from the size of the [STRIKE]alien[/STRIKE] foetus.

My doctor herself called me an incubator. Your body will do what's best for baby and will not give a monkey what the mother is going through. Oh how we suffer.

I was freezing one minute and boiling the next for the first little while, only since the wather has changed and got a lot hotter in the last few days have i been warm enough (but im a chilly morsel anyway)

and almost as soon as my test went positive i got a nasty cough that stuck around for a while, your baby is robbing you of your immune system, and good old mother nature thinks its funny to make you feel awful when you cant take any remedies.... watch out for her....shes a funny bird that one :D
