Guys it is perfectly ok and normal to feel quite overwhelmed by the impending change in your lives. I have felt similar with every pregnancy. I have two weeks until my due date and every twinge makes me wonder when it's coming. I'm more nervous this time I think as I've got the dynamics of getting the other two looked after. Oldest starts nursery sept so her trial day and meeting with school coming up end of June/ July and not sure if I will be able to take her or attend meeting.
On a positive note I have one night left at work next Tuesday and then I am off 9 months. I am so looking forward to that time with my baby.
I was so convinced with baby no1 that I wouldn't even like the look of her as I didn't really like the look of babies, however that soon passed and I spent every possible moment breathing in her smell, touching her etc.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030 -

I too am horrified at the prospect. Don't tell hubby though, his mom was a childminder and he's used to babies/kids. I held my first one two years ago! And even that was a one off. Don't they break if you hold them wrong? I am pinning all my hopes on the parentcraft classes in august. And having family around, like SIL who tell me she never had pregnancy symptoms, problems with the birth, anxieties with baby is soooo not helpful! When I visited the hospital they talked about when they let you out and I tentatively put my hand up and asked of they kick you out of you're not ready. Ready to take on the humongous responsibility. Add to all that the fact that I am very lazy and selfish (it has after all been just me for 30 years) and I fear for my sanity.
I am hoping so hard that all the right instincts kick in!:wall:0 -
Just wanted to add a quick post to say the panic and terror when you realise that pretty soon that bump is going to become a real live, kicking, screaming, hungry baby is normal....I had it with both pregnancies.....I am soooo not maternal!
And yet here I am, typing with one hand, baby lying in my other arm happily feeding away, and I couldn't be happier. It's not always easy, life changes in so many ways, but you wont regret it, I promise!
As long as you can aim a nipple or a bottle at the head end, and chuck a nappy on the other end, you'll manage just fine!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
When I was having my first I felt total panic, I was no good around kids and never around babies, and we had no-one to show us what to do or ask for help and advice. And I remember wondering how I would get thru the next 2 years changing nappies (yeuch) let alone caring for another little person.
But when the baby is put in your arms.. OMG its fantastic, just like jenpoptard said you can't take your eyes off this miracle who is your child breathing them in, listening to every little sound they make, even when you've not slept for 3 days you wouldn't go back to before. As for the practical stuff, hospital will show you how to feed, bath baby and anything else you're not sure of, and MW visit you daily when you get home.
I know its no good saying don't worry, but honestly your instincts do kick in and I totally believed I didn't have any instincts in the baby dept. It's normal to panic, I panicked (sp?) when I was having my second and I had a little panic at 2am this morning and I've still got 6months to go!0 -
Today's panic for me is about registering the birth.
do any of you second time (and subsequent) mums remember what documents are needed to register the birth? my passport is in my maiden name, and i want my married name on the birth certificate, but i'm too tight to replace a passport that still has several years to go on it, especially as they've just put the price up again. Will my birth and marriage certificates do, do you know?:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T0 -

(Anybody know if they are any good? Or can suggest any others?).

Can someone tell me if everyone needs a Glucose intolerance test during pregnancy? I've read the posts on here about it but can't find anyhing in my notes about needing it? So does that mean I'm going to miss out on the LOVELY drink all of you rave about???:rotfl:Justie wrote:only if you have high sugar levels in your urine to test if you have diabetes....
If you're really feeling left out, take a small glass of water and add about 20 teaspoons of sugar, and drink that after fasting for 12 hours. It's fun!
