Today's panic for me is about registering the birth.
do any of you second time (and subsequent) mums remember what documents are needed to register the birth? my passport is in my maiden name, and i want my married name on the birth certificate, but i'm too tight to replace a passport that still has several years to go on it, especially as they've just put the price up again. Will my birth and marriage certificates do, do you know?
I can't remember which documents I needed though I know passport was not one of them - been married 5 years now and still not got around to changing it!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
We were totally clueless with our first and somehow, we seem to have raised this amazing lovely little four year old boy and he's still in one piece! Enjoy the good stuff and try not to let anxiety get the better of you. xx
And...somehow... you will manage!!!
I'm SO not the most maternal person in the world, and I hardy ever held a baby before I had DS. We, too, were completely clueless, yet it's amazing how quickly you learn and adapt. Your instincts do kick in, and everyone does manage.
TBH I still panic about having this baby, even though I do have a vague recollection of how to look after a baby, but I'm now concerned with how I'll be able to manage two kids
DH said last night he can't imagine what it's going to be like to have a fourth person in the family, and then we reminisced about the time when it was just the two of us and we couldn't imagine what it's like to be three. Now we can't imagine not having DS - funny thing, life.0 -

How do I know if I have a water infection?!
What should I look out for? Think I may have one but having never had one before I'm not sure...

I DO have a water infection!!!
I called the MW on Tues and she said to put 2 pints of water in the fridge and drink it throughout the day as it sounded like the 'end' of an infection. I felt slightly better but last night I had pain and all through the night I felt as though my bladder would burst, only to produce a thimble full each time
Managed to get an emergency Dr's appointment this afternoon and they have sent my sample away for tests. Also have to take 4 antibiotics a day for a week
Thanks Justie and Dormouse for 'making' me get it checked out...I told the Dr that I don't know what was 'normal' in pregnancy and she said is better to get things checked out especially as infections can bring on premature labour

Can someone tell me if everyone needs a Glucose intolerance test during pregnancy? I've read the posts on here about it but can't find anyhing in my notes about needing it? So does that mean I'm going to miss out on the LOVELY drink all of you rave about???:rotfl:

My BMI's probably in excess of 35 and nobody's even blinked. I was expecting lots of advice on nutrition (the promised dietician referral never came to anything - they'll probably send me an appointment a week after baby's born!) and lots of concern because of my obesity but not a peep.
I've even taken to testing my own glucose at work because I'd been so thirsty and tired, but it's always been fine thankfully.
Weird how we all get such differing treatment!
Thanks to everyone who's been reassuring about baby's imminent arrival. It's terrifying but we'll all cope, I'm sure. Just getting so close now ... my knees are knocking!0 -

hi
i registered my DD on the 5th june and i didn't need to take any id with me nor did her dad, although we are not married. the only thing they asked for was her nhs number, which they give you in hospital.

Hello again ladies!
Just wanted to tell you all that I went to the doctor yesterday, and you were right..she didn't bother doing another pregnancy test and just took my word for it as I had done 2 home tests!
She is passing my details to the MW who will contact me in a few weeks time. She also said my first scan will prob be in 14 weeks time. How they vary eh? Does it depend on where you live?
I told her my concerns over being older and having a brother who was born spina bifda, but she said not to worry as the scans are so clear nowadays and being older doesnt make much difference if you are generally fit and well. Didnt suggest anything for my cough either.
So what a weird feeling! Kind of 'official' and carrying this 'secret' with me (but did tell parents yesterday on their 44th wedding anni!) and not really knowing much until 14 weeks?!
Had a bad day yesterday, felt rough, impatient with everything and tearful(already?)...yep I deffo feel like a 'host'
How is everyone feeling today?0 -
that sounds like they don't do a dating scan in your area and only offer the 20 week scan but I would check that with the midwife - I've found my GP while being good on the medical side isn't always up on the practical side as they're not as involved in pregnancy. If you want a nuchal fold scan then you should also ask the midwife - did your GP give you your maternity notes book? If so there should be a list of numbers there somewhere. I've found that unless you ask for things you're not offered them and as some of the scans and tests have to be at certain times you don't always find out until too late.
and welcome to the tearful times!
I was sick again last night - acid reflux. It's such a horrid thing to wake up knowing you're about to throw up and then to realise you've only been asleep for 15 minutes even though it feels like the middle of the night. I tried to prop myself up more when I went back to bed but I have a bad back/neck so sleeping at a different angle has put that out a bit  And then baby woke me at 6am blibbling around. I really hadn't prepared myself for how tired pregnancy makes you! On the positive side I'm 30 weeks now so on the downhill stretch - oh hang on that means I have to give birth to this thing soon... not so sure how positve that it :rotfl:0 -

Not sure if you have been told previously, but please take some folic acid tablets daily until you are at least out of your first trimester.0
