Shortie - GP at 31 wks, MW at 34 then at 36 I think it's MW again

I must go and look in my notes though and see if I've got a planner thingy too as I've only found out this much through luck

    Hiya
local refresher antenatal classes in my area are £45, which I can handle. My issue, before I contact them, is do I have to become a member for another £36 too.

I would like to be able to attend the NCT nearly new sales, and I suppose I would like to join some of the groups they run, after baby has been born, but my tight.... instinct always seems to kick in.

Do you think it is worth it ? I am not entitled to any of the reductions.

You don't need to be a member of the NCT to join in any of their activities at all. You can just pay a set amount to attend ante-natal classes. Access to the NCT sales is open to the general public. (Members do get to go in half an hour earlier though - but I wouldn't be put off by that.)

The NCT also offer Open House/ Coffee Mornings/ Mums & Tots groups depending on the area. Again, you don't actually need to be a member to attend. For most of the groups there is a small weekly fee (about 1 or £2). Don't feel guilty about attending events and not joining - the NCT is there to support new parents and understand that early parenthood can be a particularly lean time financially. You can always join at a later point when finances are less stretched or help out in practical ways, if you felt guilty.

With regards to the earlier discussions about contact with midwives - I have got the mobile number for my community midwife (obviously only available when she is on duty but does have voicemail.) Our local NHS trust offers a totally midwife based service. I haven't seen my GP at all. Even the initial booking-in contact is made directly with the midwife by making an appointment at the surgery. It's a great system. :)

Also....leaking mammaries... I've been able to express milk in the bath since I had my positive pregnancy test at four weeks! :o Any pressure against my chest (especially when warm) and I produce a lovely supply of colostrum! I was in absolute agony when my milk came in after my son was born - I had to send OH out for emergency savoy cabbages! :rotfl:

Our system is a midwife-only as well, so I only see her, not the GP (with DS, it was alternating appointments with GP/MW). Anyhoo, I'm 29 weeks and am still seeing the MW every 5 weeks - the next appointment is some time in July. Hopefully after that it will become a bit more frequent!

And blimey, it's amazing how sensitive some ladies' boobs are! I haven't produced a single drop yet, and hope it's going to stay that way until the babe's out. :o

Thanks everyone... phew Justie, I've got time to book for next week and not be late :o

No I've had no real complications thankfully. I have SPD but am so far managing to control it okay myself as I remember what t do / not to do from my first. Plus I never wore the awful belt last time anyway :o

The only real thing I need to check with them is my blood pressure as with my first by this time my blood pressure shot sky high and I had to be put on tablets. My blood pressure is usually very good.

This time however I seem to be (very) slowly creeping down at a time when I'm suppsed to be going up. If I remember right my book-in blood pressure was around 120/76. I took my blood pressure on Monday after an AWFUL day at work expecting it to be sky high and it was 121/66  . I'm not worried, though I'm not sure if I *should* be worried when I'm not.

I have midwifery system too. Have had very few appointments this time around. Had booking in appt at around 9 weeks, Scan at hospital at 13 weeks and 21 wks. MW at 16 weeks, then again at 28 wks, 34, 36 and 38 weeks.

I am due to see MW for 38 wk check on Mon and that is the last time until I have baby. It does seem very little but I know that they are only a phonecall away should I need advice. I am booked for 9th Jul to discuss induction should I not of had baby by then. I am due 29th June so I hope it is before then especially with the amount of twinges I have had recently.

    Hi Ladies,

Just an update from my last post!

I still havent come on, and 6 days late now so brought a new test yesterday (as the last one given to me was out of date, but showed positive!).
I had planned to wait until Friday morning to do the test, but I was too impatient and did it last night! It showed a very bold positive within a minute, so I am assuming I am! Am starting to take it in now, where as before I was numb with shock!!
This morning I rang the doctor and made an appointment for Friday, to get it confirmed. Do I take a wee sample with me?? Never done this before!
    Thanks ladies!

    Congrats Dibdob! :T

Most surgeries will just take your word for the pregnancy and won't actually do another pregnancy test so you probably won't need a sample!

The most important thing at this stage is to continue taking folic acid (up until week 12) and enjoy the pregnancy before you get any of the unpleasant side-effects! ;)

    Ahhh, congratulations ! :j

I wouldn't bother taking a sample with you to the Dr, they normally trust the HPT, as they are that good.

Now welcome to the longest 9 months of your life

    hahahah thanks Ladies!

    I'm scared now!
I have already been feeling under the weather and seem to have caught a cough. Also hot and cold flushes (is that normal?), dizziness and also cramps. Worried I might be going through an early menopause as I am 38 hahahaha.
    Boobs are so sore though!

Will keep you posted, but no doubt I will be back here loads as need the girlies to talk to and can't tell anyone yet!

Might tell parents at weekend, as will be 5 weeks then (according to my caculations) and whilst that seems a bit early-I am a carer for my brother who had mountain bike accident 10 years ago. He is in wheelchair with brain injury and my hubby is worried about lifting the wheelchair (and helping him) in and out of the car. Also he has temper tantrums (my brother, not my husband!) when frustrated, which can be stressful as he self harms. Again hubby worried about me being in a stressful environment and wondered if it will have any effect so early on a embryo?
Are we right to be cautious cos they say not to wrap yourself in cotton wool? I cant be the first woman to work in such an environment, so told my hubby not to stress!
