Curious_George wrote: »my SIL is STILL in labour (waters broke tuesday morning, and she was 7cms dialated with contractions 3 mins apart at 7pm last night)
I woke this morning (after dreaming about them all night) thinking there would be news... last we heard was over an hour ago, apparently she now has a temperature and the babys is stuck and its heartbeat is all over the place and they were about to decide what to do between tugging the poor mite out or sending her for a c section,
i hope she has had a section by now and everything is ok....
today will be a nightmare til i find out they are alright.
Any news yet ? Your poor SIL. To be 7cm, for 12 hours must be agony !0 -

it seems she has been fully dialted for some time but bubba is obviously not for being budged!
my bro worried us all with the word "stuck" earlier when i think he just meant stubborn, he made us think it was all going wrong but they would not have let her carry on if either of them were in danger,
we just heard that if nothing happens in the next hour or so they are going to send her for a c section,
my mum is such a clueless drama llama, she has just been on the phone having a panic about what SIL is going to do because "you cant pick up the baby and you cant move and you cant do anything for weeks etc etc" i tried to tell her that its not that bad anymore and she will be sent home after a few days with plenty of pain killers etc but while its still major abdominal surgery its generally not nearly as bad as it used to be and she will be fine (thousands of other people manage every week)
but mum has convinced herself that a c section is a similar experience to being wrapped in plaster of paris for 3 months.... *sigh*
she was talking to me like i know nothing on the subject... like i dont know anyone thats had a section, like i havent watched my fair share of baby programmes or done any research lately just incase...what is it with mothers thinking nothing has changed in the last 30 years and they still know the lot?
thank god she cant speak to SIL direct... thats all she needs after a 2 day labour!0 -
Gosh, all this action recently is getting me nervous!
Congratulations to all.0 -
Curious George - well 5 weeks post c-section I can tell you it's not easy but it's not that bad either. Of our antenatal group 7 of us have had babies, 4 of which were c-sections. I don't think any of us are doing any worse than the v-birth mums. The only problem is the driving if you live in a village but providing recovery goes well and your GP will approve it then most insurance companies will let you drive after 4 weeks (although it should be checked with each company). The key post c-section is not to do too much too soon and to take any and all drugs offered in the first couple of days. And to get help sitting up and with the baby whilst in hospital every time you need it. My recovery has been longer than some as I didn't get as much help as I should have in hospital as I didn't know what was 'normal'. The actual section was blissful and serene and I was so happy to have it after 30 hours of labour getting nowhere.
And you can and should pick your baby up - but not in the car seat etc to begin with.0 -
dont get me wrong Justie, i didnt mean to sound like i was playing a c section recovery down but mum was making it sound like they might as well cut your arms off while they are delivering the baby as you will be completely helpless for months afterwards, and i know that while it isnt as quick a recovery as some "normal" births its not the complete end of the world either....0

Emma (or anyone else for that matter), at what stage do they consider you in 'active' labour. I always thought 3cm was the norm, but that is probably just from where I come from.
... but I was wondering about that too. Round here they tell you to phone the labour ward when the contractions are 5 mins apart, so I'm assuming that's considered active labour (bloomin' feels like it! When my CTs were 5 mins, I was 4cm, so that sounds about right.)
Now that I think of it, actually, they did ask me afterwards when they were filling in their paperwork when my CTs got regular and put that down as the start of labour.
I'm not sure whether it's different in different areas (and whether it depends on the number of MWs and staff available...). I did recently hear an absolutely disgusting story about a woman (MIL's neighbour's DIL :rotfl: ) who was 6cm and was turned away and told to go home    Hope that wasn't that hospital's normal policy! :mad:0 -
Congratulations Emma :T
Phoebe is a lovely name!
Lovely photos Sarah.0 -

Hiya all
Most certainly making up for my lack of posts today.
MW and student just been and done my homebirth risk assessment.
My HB has gone up from 10.2 to 10.7, and as long as it is above 10.5 they are happy - although it does mean that I still have to take my iron tablets, but I can live with that.
The risk assessment, really only involved my 'health' and not my home, so I am a little bit dissappointed, as I worked my butt of this am, cleaning the place. Hopefully it will stay like this, but I know better.
BP is fine, and baby is facing downwards, so happy days.
Just need to sort out that bloody birthing pool. Have decided I can't afford the heated birthing pool (£245 cheapest), so am hoping something (La Bassinette or BPIAB) will come up on ebay soon (funny how, now that I really must get the pool, there don't seem to be that many around) and I can buy it, otherwise I will just have to get a new one - and with all its kit - it works out at £120, and I can still sell it afterwards.
And I have worked out I have 19 shifts left of work !!! Definitely on the downward hill now ................0 -
Haven't been on for a day or two, lo been keeping me busy. 8 days old and nocturnal, sleeps all day and wants to be up all night! just wanted to say big congratulations to emma and love the photo's sarah - he is gorgeous! :j :j :jThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
