I tore during labour (thankfully only a bit, I think!!) and needed a stitch, but how long does it take to heal? I'm still a bit sore and I'm sure my stitch was bleeding! My lochia (sp?) is lighter now and the blood was bright red.[/quote]

Anyone know roughly how long it takes to fully heal? OH wants me to get myself checked out but who would I see? The midwife (Charlie is now 4 weeks old, so no longer under their care), health visitor (just for baby isn't she?) or GP?

  • Congrats, Auntie George!!! :j

Poor SIL, though. That kind of birth is my ultimate nightmare . Hoping my order for a quick and painless delivery has been received and granted :rotfl:.

The 'any niggles yet?' phone calls have started already. My family are absolutely besides themselves with anticipation as this is the first birth in 18 years!!! :D

  • oh CG, congrats to your bro and SIL, I bet the relief is immense!

My bump has been going hard in places for a while I suppose, now when I use my tummy muscles to lean forward my bump goes a weird pointy shape, much to the delight of my OH, at least I am entertaining someone... right now there's a hard spot just above and to the left of my bellybutton, I assume that's a tiny bum poking, the best thing is seeing it move :D

Edit: SB, first birth in 18 years? you're not going to get any peace then! I'd practice keeping calm now...

Sorry Claire I missed your post. I don't know the answer but I thought that HV's were for you as well as the baby - perhaps ask her first? Or whoever is most accessible, if nothing else they will tell you who to see. I hope you get it sorted soon.

oh... and while im here a question for all (but mostly izoomzoom and hopeless cook and anyone else who is around the 33 week-age mark or remembers it well)

is your stomach solid most of the time?
i mean really hard... i can feel exactly where he is and its like he is right up against my skin and spreading himself out... its hard to explain, but i dont remember my DD making me feel like a rugby ball

oh.. ignore me, ive had a brain frazzling day! lol

There are many times when my tummy is rock hard. I assume it is the BH, but they only last a few mins, and then tummy is soft-ish again. I do not recall BH in prev pg, but suppose I did have them. When I am having a BH, I do find it quite uncomfortable, but not painful (that is still to come).

I am sorry Claire, but I would (and will) tell my DH to go and fly a kite. I have always believed in waiting for 6 weeks until after the birth for you to heal properly (and I haven't had stitches), and then only if you really really really feel comfortable down there.

Don't know who 'signs you off' in this country. Where I was from, it was the OB, but then as a pvt patient I was under OB care the whole time (for no special reason - it was just the way things were), and last check was done at 6 weeks.

Also bear in mind, you need to have contraception in place too, otherwise you know where you will be in 9 months time.

    and? let them think it!
at least you get the answers you need to help you stop worrying,

update on my SIL... well, i dont see them having any more kids after this experience,
my new niece was only born about an hour ago,
they tried to deliver normally (for far too long in my opinion.... but who am i)
babe got stuck so they tried yanking her out, that didnt work
as SIL had been in labour for 2 days and in hard labour for about 24 hours they went to a c section, and apparently something went wrong with that too...
so they had to knock SIL out completely and threw my brother out of the room,

i got a text from bro at 6.30 saying she was 5 mins old it was a girl, everyone was ok but that he hadnt seen her yet and then i burst into tears!

    CONGRATULATIONS AUNTIE CG :T :T :T :T

My belly goes solid occasionally and I don't like it. It feels like I'm going to split open (baby coming out of a side door hubby calls it). For example, belly has been solid since after dinner last night and I am finding it really uncomfortable (hence I'm up and about). Haven't felt baby move, as that REALLY verges on pain then. Otherwise belly is semi softish, with various lumps here and there, which shift about .

I must say I hate making belly go into that triangular shape ever since the physio mentioned something about splitting abdominal muscles all those months ago. Hence I've started disliking baths  - can't lie back as makes me feel sick and can't use muscles to sit up... oh dear, that used to be one of my favourite pastimes!

And Fac, you're having a homebirth, which I assume means your baby is head down. At which point it's bum would be somewhere near your ribs (I was surprised at that, how huge are these babies!?) and any lumps by belly button have to be limbs:confused: .

:T  established labour they said was3 cm +

my birth story - well you all know the first 40 odd hours :o
then at 845pm tues contractions still 7min apart lasting a mega 75 to 120 secs ouuuch i went to loo and was bleeding rang hosp they said come up for a check
checked me at 9pm and i was 5cm - ctractions straight to 3min apart then and then mw says do you know babys back to back so you might get lots of back pain - erm yes i had been saying that for ages!!
so straight onto gas and air, into pool, got out of pool to push - phoebe was born 5 hours after we arrived at hosp! :T no pain relief tp push - didnt realise at the time
she was born with hand in the air (think superman:eek: ) i had episiotomy and tore badly so im walking like a cowboy

breastfeeding constantly hoping when milk comes in she might not want feed every 5mins ?
had 3 hours sleep now since sat i look rough ! but am smiling!

thanks for all the answers girls,

zoomy, i know its not the BH cos i have them too.... i cant really move during one of them cos it feels like Danny is squeezing my bladder with a vice like death grip and i always think if i try and move durimng a BH i will wet myself! lol
i meant my belly can feel really hard a lot of the time, im thinking it might be mostly in the evenings though because at this very moment agutka describes it best by saying "belly is semi softish, with various lumps here and there, which shift about"

oh... and mine goes triangular when i sit up too
this really is a weird business!
