Oh izoomzoom, what a horrible situation to be in :( 1 in 250 doesn't sound too bad at all, it's just the wait and the not knowing that's not easy to deal with. *hugs*

(((izoomzoom))) - I'll never understand why they use the phrase 'high risk' - although it's above average, it still isn't exactly high. The chances of there being a problem with your baby are miniscule, but I know it won't be until you get the amnio done and get some results that you'll feel reassured. Just try to be good to yourself and take it as easy as you can until you find out more. x

well that's just depressed me, had my 28 week MW check and the last lot of bloods I had done (at 16 weeks) showed my iron levels were a bit low - no one bothered to tell me but I'm now on iron tablets while they do another blood test to see if it's still the same. And I have sugar in my urine  Hopefully it'll go again before my next lot of tests.

The good thing though is that they'll do a Strep B test on the NHS for me - they used to only do it privately but will put it through for free so it's worth asking. Although I'll have to have it done at 34 weeks not in the 35 -37 week window which is best...

    Welcome helend :)

I had a MW appointment today, which lasted all of five seconds, and the next time I see her will be in July. Jeez, they really don't see you much, do they!

As the appointment was a total rush, I completely forgot to ask her about the MATB certificate - I thought I'm supposed to get one about now (I'm 27 weeks)? I'll need to claim for my maternity allowance soon, and I'm sure I'll need the MATB for that, so I can't wait until July. Does anyone know whether I'll need to chase the MW for it now or can the GP provide one?

I think the Dr can give you your MATB form too. You can get it from 20wks and apply for MA from 26 wks. Applied for mine today as want to start leave at 29wks! :j

Sorry to hear that izoomzoom. A friend of mine also fell into that category 2 years ago and decided not to have the amnio. They had been trying for a baby for about 7 years. She gave birth to a perfectly healthy little girl. I have no idea on the percentages of these things. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you izoomzoom.

Oh, Zoom, I do hope you and your OH are OK. One in 250?! The odds are pretty much in your favour...take care of yourself xxx

    Congrats, Helend!

Thank you for all the kind words and encouragement.

I realise that I have a 249 chance of being fine, and percentage wise it is less than 1/2 risk. However I think that it is terrible that they label it as being high risk. If they just told you the odds, you would think very differently about it, but as soon as you are told high risk, that is all you focus on.

I am much calmer about it all now, and actually feel quite hopeful. I am worried about the amnio and I am a real scaredy cat when it comes to needles. My poor mum had to have two, as the first one failed to take.
