    Evening all

Just to say sorry it took so long re James.

He was born on13/08/07 at 10.17 weighing in at 11lb 3oz. The section was terrible which was only to be expected as its the third and he was big. Then he disappeared! We could hear him next door but it seems all the staff wanted to see him too. I don't blame them, they held him up for me and had to tell me four times because I was expecting about 10lbs.

I ended up staying in a week and am now home with friends ringing up to come and see him. In addition we changed ISPs which was a bit nightmarish as no internet for a 10 days!

Now if the stitch sites and other bits stop hurting I can get back to some sort of normality as OH is now back at work after his paternity leave. (I didn't shout for joy - honestly!)

Congrats to all who have had there babas recently and hello and welcome to any newbies.
    I have a question???
Can the baby go straight into the cot on return from the hospital or is it advised that they sleep in your room in a moses basket (or similar) for a while!! This is my first so a bit clueless!!

  • my daughter went straight into her cot (in my room) and this bub will be doing the same....

my mother was mortified  she said the cot was too big for a newborn, i told her that she wouldnt be using all of it, just the bit at the bottom and at this stage how could a baby possibly know it was in a big cot?
she said something about coming from a confined space... as far as i was concerned as long as babies feet were touching the bottom of the cot and she was covered in a well tucked in sheet and blanket(s) that was as confined as she needed to be....

bear in mind of course mum is from the mega swaddling generation, as babes we were wrapped up so tightly we couldnt have moved if our lives depended on it.
(also bear in mind mum told me if i raised my arms above my head i would strangle the baby with the umbilical cord... i stopped listening to ANYTHING she had to say afer that )

i had to laugh at this,im 34 and on my 4th child but i do belive the oldest things r the best,i do swaddle my lill baba who still has no name lol it makes them feel comfy and secure just like there back in the wonb again and its more likely to settle them,i also put him to sleep in his moses basket i dont like putting them in a cot untill theyve kinda outgrown the moses basket, and also the salt water bath remedies for the old war wounds lol yet your not supposed to have salt water baths these days but i think its the best for healing your wounds down below,im a great beliver of all the old methods,so try in bear in mind a lill of what your mum says cause some of them will come in handy at some stage or other,i hope i diddnt sound awfull posting this this way but i can see your mums point, anyhow enjoy baby xxxxxxx

Hi scruffy, I never had a moses basket or any of mine so I used their pram for the first few weeks, it just seems cosier and it was easier to move them from room to room.

Emma - how are you keeping? Still hanging on. I tried the hot curry myth the other night, it didn't work just gave me major heartburn and a sleepless night lol. I'm still hanging on. I've got really bad backache today though! Could this be a sign, I'm ever hopeful.

Dollop - I'm an old school mum aswell, all the old rememdies are the best lol. Breast milk for conjunctivitis, swaddling, salt water etc!!! Hope everything is going okay with the little one!!

hiya i am still here too i went walking again yesterday must have clocked up miles this week! we were out walking for about 4 hours i was shattered last night but no signs yet!

we have got a moses basket for baby to sleep in at first as we have a cot bed and just seems too big for a newborn, plus i dont think we would have much space if we had that in our room! we thought a moses basket would be more convenient

Hi Katy, I was induced with my first three (due my fourth in about two weeks). The first two were great, four hour births, 9 minutes of pushing on each. I had diamorphine or pethidine for pain relief and of course the gas and air, my third wasn't so great due to other reasons NOT related to the induction.

I don't know if all hospitals are the same but up here (scotland) they used a gel first thing in the morning, and came back later to check, nothing had happened so at 4pm they used the gel again, the second attempt worked fine for all labours!!
You'll be fine, just breath and concentrate on getting a cuddle and meeting your baby!! Good luck!!
