  • I'll consider myself lucky then, I didn't need a full bladder for either scan, thankfully. The first sonographer did show me my bladder though, that was weird :)

Dormouse, if I get calls like that I don't think I'll be able to stay patient for long. How stupid are people to think that you'd go 'oh yeah, didn't I say??' I know they mean well but... I have images of my mother asking this daily from 37 weeks as I told her that I wouldn't be letting her know when I go into labour - reason being she is sitting exams around that time so I don't want to stress her out.

I am just back from the doctors for another urine test and wow, what a difference seeing a good doctor makes, I wish I had gone to him before. He said the amount of protein present is almost negligible, and is probably an infection that is so mild it's not giving me any grief so I wouldn't know I have it. He said they do get the odd case of bad pre-eclampsia ('about once every 20 years') and said I really shouldn't be worrying but if I do, to give them a call and get some reassurance rather than sit at home panicking. 27 years ago I suppose he saved my life when my mum had a heavy bleed on Christmas day so I suppose I can have a bit of faith in what he said today :)
  • Had my blood taken for triple test today. They told me they will phone Wednesday afternoon with the results (though i have a midwife appointmnet then so no doubt I will miss the call!) The hospital couldn't find my notes that I was supposed to be getting back today. They have given me a new copy to fill in but have left a message for community midwife to see if she still has my original copy as I don't fancy filling all the pages in again!

Anyway, what I was really posting to ask was why is it important for them to know your weight and whether you smoke for your triple test? Do thiese things make a difference to the possibility of risk?

i dont remember being asked those questions apart from in my very first visit the booking in visit. i dont think it would directly affect your risk of having a child with the syndromes they are testing for but i am not 100%.
maybe they asked if you smoke to give them another opportunity to give you some health promo if you did?!

Re full blader for 20 week scan- I don't think it is as important as having one at the 12 week scan, however I wouldn't worry too much as by that point most people get a full bladder very quickly and easily as their bump leaves less room!

Thanks for the welcome peeps! And congratulations Terminally Short xxx

Don't know but as they'd lost my notes they didn't have the answers to these questions already. The woman who took my blood said she's only been doing it two days and would have to check with the other midwife. I overheard her saying at the desk "Go through this list (on the packet the blood sample went in) but it's really important to know whether she smokes and the weight".
Not that it's urgent for me to know - I'm just really nosy!

I am definitely not telling my mother when I go into labour. I made the mistake of doing it last time, so I phoned her when the waters broke, and she started shouting at me to go to the hospital like I'm some sort of dumb idiot who's never thought of that.  Then, as my labour was very long, she completely freaked out as I couldn't keep her updated every second of the day

So to cut a long story short, this time she's not getting told until the baby's here. :D

Forgot to say, glad your appointment went well. :)

Had my 20 week scan this morning, baby was being stubborn and wouldn't move around so the sonographer could check the spine and brain, spent nearly 20 mins with my head 2 inches off the floor and my feet 2 inches off the ceiling, did the trick as bun moved enough for her to check that everything was ok.
    Oh, and it's a boy!!!
We don't need to buy clothes as we still have DS' things.
Babes got really long legs too, takes after DH already :D

Still can't help visiting this thread, even though I am no longer pregnant and definitely not TTC! :D

Congratulations TerminallyShort. Dormouse - you have my sympathies! The last few weeks/days are horrendous - just hang on in there, it'll all be worth it in the end.

My little one is five weeks old already and feeding regularly! He has been putting on about a pound a week though so it's doing him some good. By the way - the waking once a night thing was just a honeymoon period to lull us into a false sense of security!

I will get round to posting some photos. Have been meaning to get some photos online for ages. I also want to do the Jessops free photos offer before that expires. I don't know where the days go!

Lastly - I've just been nosing at the Book People website as they have some good offers on and spotted a cute Kipper Baby Memory book for £1.99 HERE

    hi all
    guess what i did yesterday.............

    ran over a cat
i slammed the brakes on so hard that i have left mighty skidmarks (on the ROAD :rotfl: ) it was awful, the cat didnt die though but i did hit it - i thought i hadnt cos it walked away but when i got home and told hubby he checked car and ive broke the fog light thingy :o

i cried for about an hour and felt so guilty - for the poor cat (i have a cat of my own) then for being irresponsible and slamming the brakes on when im 36 weeks pregnant and thinking have i harmed the baby. feeling movment though so all fine but just feel sooooooooooooooooo bad

this morning my back is killing me

as for the weight thing, just been cathing up with the thread.......... i was doing fine gaining around a pound to two pound a week - this week have gained 4 pounds :confused::confused: which takes my wright gain upto just under 3 stone, at 36 weeks. i hope i do not carry on gaining so much i thought it slowed down towards the very end?

i also feel guilty for every comment i have ever made to any pregnant person in my life as i really get fed up with peoples comments now - "not long now eh" and the great "god, look the size of you" for some reason just really wind me up

I've nothing constructive to say, but i am sending you a hug in spirit.
:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T
