Help I'm having an hormonal, irrational and panicy afternoon. Baby is due in 8 days and I've decided that our car seat is going to be too much of a pain to get in and out of the car all the time and want another one!!
The car seat I have was given to me as was the matching pushchair but both have had a good life already but the MSE'r in me wanted to use it some more. However the car seat will not fit in the back of our 2nd car (which soon will be sold anyway), will fit in the front but that seat has an air bag! The new car has some gizmo which if the seat belt is fully out and then feeds back a bit it will not allow you to pull that bit of belt back without putting it all back first. Damn cars!!!!
I now can't decide whether to try to get a isofix fitting car seat that is ideally group 0 and 1 so it is more cost effective. But some of them are £100 and then another £100 for the base!!!!!
Or do I give the whole lot away (pushchair & car seat) and buy a whole new travel system (one in mothercare for £160ish)?
Now I have £60 worth of Nectar points saved up so could use these in Argos, or my little brother works in Halfords so would be able to get me 15% discount there. Or I got an e-mail from Mothercare for 10% discount today.
What the hell should I do?!!! (Sorry post got a bit long but feel a bit better now, and I'll get more help from you people than I will from OH! He'll just have to put up with the tears in a minute):heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

If its any help, i know there are some reaaaaally cheap travel systems about at the moment,
sure i saw a couple on https://www.nurseryandtoys.com this morning,
I hate travel systems so our car seat is going to be fitted in the back and thats pretty much it, its not going to be taken out every time we stop somewhere,
my DD didnt care that she got taken out of the car each time to be laid out more comfortably in her pram / pushchair (and very rarely woke up when we made the transistion)0 -
Would you just get another car seat and keep the pushchair or replace the whole lot?! Tried to call my mum to ask her opinion but she's not in (how inconsiderate!! lol):heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

Thanks everyone for the reassurance about another sample test - I am now thinking of making an appointment on Monday morning rather than dropping it off - do you think this is reasonable - I'd rather not have another appointment at all but I don't really want to just hand it in and then wait by the phone all day.
We've just bought a blood pressure monitor (£10!) and my BP is definitely not too high, it's nice to be able to keep an eye on it. Just can't help thinking of the awful possibilities, I know that's silly but that bloody woman, I wanted her to smile and tell me not to worry, and she didn't. Also keep running through part of the conversation where I am not sure if she called me fat or not - what do you guys think?
GP: you're measuring perfectly for your dates...
Me: good
GP: well, your womb is.
Me: ...
I've put on just over 2 stone at this stage and yes I've eaten chocolate when I've fancied it and developed a Haribo habit but I am hardly pigging out constantly and OH and I generally eat very balanced meals - even when all I want is crisps, crisps, and more crisps. No doubt I've put on a little weight that isn't baby-related but is this not the one time in my life NOT to worry about that? I feel curvy and sexy, not flabby (well, mostly) and am - or WAS - actually quite comfortable with my body for possibly the first time in my life. I'm in 14-16 clothes, at my fittest when I was in the gym daily I was still only a small 14 but trim with it so have not ballooned - yet there's time for that still and I don't care if I do! At my antenatal class the other night everyone looked different, we ranged from super slim to very cuddly and it was great to see so many women looking happy with themselves and now this one person has planted this seed of doubt in my mind. And when not pregnant I wasn't the most sensitive person about my weight and actually never really weigh myself at all so it's not like I've decided to jump on one comment that is meaningless, I just can't decide what on earth she meant and why say it...
Can you tell I'm having a good weekend?
Sorry for the moan as I know that really in the grand scheme of things it's nothing and people have far bigger concerns than this, I am just being grumpy.
Pushchairs and car seats - Claire if you are happy with the actual pushchair I'd keep it and just get a new car seat - but then I'm not a big fan of travel systems. We have a two-in-one that goes from pram to pushchair but need to buy a separate car seat - we don't even have a car but still, gotta have one, so I share your frustration at their cost!
That said there is a car seat we can get that does match the pushchair which makes it a travel system really, got to resist as the car seat is £90. Do you need a base for any car seat that is in the carry cot style? If we owned a car we might know these things :rolleyes:0 -
What a cheeky mare your mw is fac!!! I shouldn't worry, I have put on over 2 and 1/2 stone, it was nearer 4 stone with dd but this time I have her to run after all the time so have put on less. It will all come off later and anyway as long as you and your lo are ok what else matters?!
Btw, my mw is insensitive too. After 7 weeks of bleeding I went to an appointment happy for once, thinking things were on the up. I asked her if everything should be ok now the bleeding had settled down, heard a good heartbeat etc.............her response? "well, things can go wrong at any time you know, look at your cousin who had a still birth". Lovely eh?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Oh fac, that weight thing just sounds exactly like something I would play over and over in my head as well.
I'm sure the woman did not mean anything, though, it just came out a bit weird. I mean, judging by what you said about that GP, she's hardly the most considerate person in the world and doesn't really think about what she's saying. (People like that shouldn't be let near pregnant women!)
I take every weight-related comment very personally these days, so I know what it's like. I know I'm irrational a lot of the time, and I know people don't mean to say horrible things, but it's my prerogative to be grumpy and take things the wrong way if I so wish.
I could've kissed the nurse woman at the surgery the other day as she said I was very 'compact'. :A I could've killed DH last night, on the other hand, as I was looking at the bump in the mirror (naked) and what's the loving comment he comes out with? "Bernard Manning, eat your heart out!" :mad:0 -
About the age thing. I've attended lots of classes and have not come across anyone looking younger then 30. Where are these all these teenagers you keep hearing about. These were all first time mothers as well. So we're all normal...
I don't know but everyone at my hospital appointments and scan everyone else was about 15 and made me feel like an ancient old hag!0 -
Clare - there is some research (think it was in the Which report but can't swear to it) that suggests that infant car seats can deteriorate with multiple use as the moisture of having a baby in them can degrade the polystyrene that forms the support and so make them less safe than a new one even if they've not been in an accident. It's a small factor but may be enough to make the decision for you. If it won't fit in your second car then you can't use it there anyway so even if it's for a short period of time it may be worth getting a new one that will fit both cars. If you can get an isofix then it is generally much safer (check the Which reports though for ratings) but obviously without an isofix is much cheaper. If the pushchair works and is suitable for a newborn (or folds up pretty small and is very manoeuverable) then it's worth keeping it and just getting a new car seat but it'll depend how you envision using your car seat and your pushchair. We've gone for a system where the chassis can have the car seat or the pushchair or the carry cot on as I don't particularly like the travel systems where the car seat sits on top of the pushchair as they're heavier and you end up with a dirty pushchair before your child's even used it - but that's my personal choice and they are very popular. I would always go with my gut instinct on something like a car seat and if your feeling like you need to change it then do.
Fac try not to read too much into what the GP said - we're not the most rational of creatures when we're pregnant!
And for all of you who look at the maternity images on mamas and papas etc and envy the lovely neat bumps and the lack of puffy ankles it's cos they're not really pregnant (guess who's been watching Britain's Top Model). Although obviously I'd look exactly like that if they were to photograph me right now... :rotfl:

 that's unbelievable Rachel - we all KNOW there's a billion things that can go wrong but really don't want to be reminded of them. If someone said that to me I think I'd want to hit them. My MIL refused to take any interest in the fact that I was pregnant until I was about 24 weeks - her reason? It was too early, so much could go wrong.
Your poor cousin though, I can't imagine how hard that must have been.I could've killed DH last night, on the other hand, as I was looking at the bump in the mirror (naked) and what's the loving comment he comes out with? "Bernard Manning, eat your heart out!"
Oh Dormouse I am sorry but that did raise a small laugh, mainly because it's amazing what those we love can get away with. I hope he grovelled a bit after that. My OH has said 'wow, you're huge' a couple of times but oddly I let this pass - I think I take it as a sort of compliment from him that I'm doing a good job - cheeky sods aren't they :rolleyes:Fac try not to read too much into what the GP said - we're not the most rational of creatures when we're pregnant!

Thanks Justie. I have only seen this GP once before and she was lovely so I suppose I expected more of the same. Got to stop occasionally and remember that the world doesn't revolve around me - she could have been having a bad day too.
I really thought those adverts would use real pregnant women - aren't I foolish  Except I bought a book on labour and birth yesterday that has pictures of one woman at the different stages of pregnancy and NO WAY can she be pregnant. Nothing changes except her tummy - even her hair is the same!0 -
I know, it was kinda funny in an infuriating sort of way. Lucky for him I generally feel quite loving and cuddly these days; must be some sort of pre-labour thing.
And fac, thanks for mentioning the c-word!  I really fancy crisps now...0
