I had my 31 week check up today - with my GP not midwife and I, too, have protein in my urine - must be a day for it. She was not at all reassuring though and I've come away really worried.
She told me to book a blood test for next week (at 32 instead of 34) and to bring another sample then. So I booked this, then she called and left a message for me saying that's too far away, cancel the blood test, have that at 34 weeks as normal, but take another urine sample first thing on Monday and she will call me with results (she wants me to drop it in, not see her).
I do have quite swollen ankles but a) am pregnant (!) and b) it's hot. She asked me about infections, but I feel fine, no pain or anything. Blood pressure was fine, lowest it's been actually.
The whole appointment was horrible, I just feel really unsettled now - what other reasons would there be protein present? I usually come out on a mini-high especially after hearing the heartbeat, now I have a weekend of worrying ahead.0 -

We opted not to take the test (even though I'm 33!) as DH was so against having an amniocentesis, if required, after reading the statistics .

Heck, is 33 old? That's how old I am but didn't realise that was old (I was too busy freaking out about OH being 40!)
I am going for the blood tests on Monday. I do want to know but haven't a clue what I will do if tests aren't such good news. OH says it wouldn't make a difference but I've taught two children with Down's and I really don't think I would be able to cope. Fingers crossed for good reuslts!0 -
:j I slept through the night!!!
Haven't done that in months! Eight blissfull hours... (I did have a dream where I was in the toilets and wanted to use one, but there was some sort of flood and they were all icky - just as well - might have wet the bed otherwise:eek: )
Now I'm off to ruin my mood by spending the day with mother...
I dont know what happened but somebody must have flicked my first trimester tiredness switch back to the on postion, because i havent been this tired since then!
alright ive done a lot this week... rushing about all over the place to appointments, we havent had our poorly car for weeks and for some reason public transport knackers me more than anything else...
but i have slept almost right through for the last 3 nights and i was still so tired, so uncomfortable and so upset that OH had come home again after a 12 hour shift to no dinner and a bombsite house that i spent 20 minutes in tears! (he is so lovely though and says he doesnt care)
i got in from the shops this afternoon laid on the sofa, and shut my eyes....
it was like blinking... but when my eyes focused on the clock 3 hours later i realised i must of fallen into a coma!
ohh....went to the consultant today to see what was going on about measuring 5 weeks ahead... and im not
he measured me and im bang on what im supposed to be, its possible baby was head up and making a bulge that she measured and thats why i was so huge that day, or it might of been the fact that im a fat bloater and she got me right after lunch! lol
27 weeks today = 3rd trimester
Thank god! :j :T :j0 -
Ah, so you didn't get that head start in the race.
Well maybe it was a head ...0 -
DH is a bit upset with me. We are off on hols tomorrow, and I nipped into Tesco's to get some stuff this afternoon and DS1 (8y) said he didn't want to come, and as I was only doing three isles, I let him stay in the car, and DS2 went with me.
We got back about 10 mins later, to find DS2 passed out asleep on the back seat. The keys were on the seat next to him and the doors were all locked. I banged on the windows, shouted at him, banged windows with my work keys, bumped the car so that he was rocking backwards and forwards, but he would not wake up. A man even stopped his car right next to our's and blew his hooter, but DS1 wouldn't wake up.
I phoned DH almost straight away, and then a couple of mins later as I was concerned that the car was only half in the shade, and he told me to break the window if necessary, as he was 35 mins away with the spare keys at the quickest. A few mins later I called again, and told him he would have to come, as I was growing very concerned about the heat inside the car.
By this time my throat was coarse but DS2 and I continued all the things we had been, and after about 10 mins, he woke up. What a relief !!!
I called DH who was already on his way, and he drove the rest of the way home at non hazard / overspeeding mode.
However, DH has discovered that I have dented the back doors and is a tiny bit annoyed, but understands fully 'what else could I do?' He is now stripping the doors down, to bump out the dents, but we are just both so thankful that we got him out.
DS1, by the way, thought it was huge joke - after he woke up properly. Bless him0 -
Sorry, Dormouse & Chocaholic110!
I'm that used to be told 'I'm getting on a bit' either by my family or all the preggy books on my shelf! Its our 5th anniversary on the 22nd and if I had a penny for every person who has asked 'when are we starting a family' I would be a very rich lady :rotfl:

Wow, i zoomsoom, bet you're feeling a lot happier now than a few hours ago, what a scarey experience.
And oi! to you lot going on about being old in your early 30s, spare a thought for us 40yr olds going through it for the first time! Can't wait for my mum's reaction when we tell her at the bank hol, she'll probably make some comment on my age without meaning to upset  She's made it to 74 without being a gran and is now past the stage where she's able to knit due to her arthritis...maybe a lucky escape for all :rotfl:0 -
I can't believe some of you ladies are working right up until 38 weeks. That's verging on the heroic in my book.
I am starting my maternity leave at 23 & a 1/2 weeks, although it is not through choice as my contract is expiring, and they have no money left to renew it.
So i am going have over 3 months of pottering around at home. I don't really know what i'm going to do with myself.:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T0 -
I can't decide when i want to start my maternity leave. I'm not due til the end of Dec. I keep thinking i'd like to work up until the end of Nov & then take my remaining 2 + wks annual leave, that way i'd have more time off after with our baby. But then at the same time i keep thinking about saying stuff it & doing the exact same thing but a month earlier...decisions decisions! Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0 -
don't decide yet becky you only have to give your employer 28 days notice and if you find you need to go on leave earlier then you can usually change it. You need to see how YOU feel and how healthy you and the baby are later on in your pregnancy. You may find that working half time or something in the last month works well so you can take your holiday but reduce your hours.
I'm 38 weeks today and have to say I couldn't be working now but then some women can (I was fine till about my 37th week though). I've also been advised by my 'massage in labour' tutor that women who carry on being busy and working until close to their due dates often find labour more stressful - but then that might be because she's a bit of a hippy and thinks pregnant women should be getting vague and letting their natural instincts take over - she does have a very good rate of women giving birth without any other pain relief than massage though so there may be some truth in it.0
