Thanks CG! We really enjoyed doing it.

It was a tight fit getting everything in but I think it's the best layout we could manage. We kept to the money saving mantra too! Got discounts on everything in there... :-)

I really like your blog, jotheb
:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T

Unfortunately I'm the first employee of the new company so no T&Cs to carry over, however the T&Cs that I've read up on this morning just mention that policies and procedures can be changed/reviewed at any time. We're supposed to follow a consultative approach though, and given the fact this has all been signed off in about a week smacks to me of a lack of consultation! Discrimination crossed my mind since I've forced their hands on it, otherwise the old policy would have continued to be in place. I just didn't think they could change something like that *after* you've informed them  .
Still, it forced me into seriously reviewing our budget yesterday...not a pleasant experience as I won't be able to afford as much time off on mat leave now.

Sorry Dougggie, I am pregnant (ha ha) and don't understand.

Were you an employee of the old / first company ?
How did you become the first employee of the new company?

:hello: izoomizoom! Not seen you for a while. Hope all is well x

Oh, I went away for a week of hols, but otherwise have been around. Can't keep up with the site sometimes.

I was due in Sept with DS2, and remember waiting for August when I could finally say, due next month.

I still have three whole months left, and pg woman I meet in the street ask for far along I am and I say I have months. They (at least 3x in the last two weeks) have had less than 2 weeks to go, and are smaller than me. Not fair !

Well I have some more spare time (amazing! - although I doubt I'll ever properly get caught up on anything, ever again!) and I was shocked to see Welshlassie's still hanging on - my goodness, what a sticky baby! I'll send some labour vibes your way - hope things get going soon.

I guess I should push off and join the parenting thread *sniff*, which is a scary thought. Having said that, the whole being a parent thing rocks. I think we've been lucky - Tom slept for nearly 7 hours last night (he's a week old today!) and he almost never cries. Apart from having farts which beat even his dad in noise and smelliness he's just brilliant.

In terms of the section, it was horrible and scary right up until it actually started. None of it was bad/painful but the anticipation and fear of what was about to happen was unbearable - the actual procedure from spinal to op was fine. It's a bit undignified being naked from the chest down in a room full of strangers, especially when they're placing the catheter or loudly announcing that they're about to pop a suppository up your bum, but the whole thing was SO quick I didn't have time to worry. We were back on the ward an hour after we'd left for theatre, with Tom snuggled onto my chest and OH trotting alongside. The midwives were amazing, they got on with the icky bits with no fuss and really encouraged my breastfeeding, taking ages to help me get him positioned and latched on. The care from start to finish was really, really great, and what could have been horrible was made much, much easier by their patience and kindness.

It's not been as painful to recover from as I'd expected - I was walking 18 hours after the op (would have been sooner but they weren't up for helping me to the shower at 3am!) and although I'm still a bit bruised and stiff I managed a mile and a half with the pram today, on half the pain meds dose they prescribed. I can actually get in and out of the bath easier now than a week ago because my SPD pain has gone!

The worst bit so far was definitely day 3 - we'd been home 36 hours when all of OH's family arrived at once (at one point we had 11 visitors in our tiny front room) and I had serious baby blues. I was exhausted (he didn't sleep the first 2 nights until my milk came in) and sore from huge engorged breasts and upset and worried because Tom hadn't been able to latch on and feed for nearly 9 hours  and I was a complete cow when I wasn't bawling my eyes out. Thankfully the lovely community midwife has no problem with revisiting me twice in a day to make sure things are on the up if I'm struggling, so since then (with the help of savoy cabbage in my bra and loads of hot flannels) things have been tickety boo.

Breastfeeding's one of the best things I've ever done - it's really tough, even without well-meaning relatives suggesting that "the baby's hungry so why not just give him a bottle rather than fighting to get him latched on". I cried more about this than anything else, not so much the pain but the frustration. But it's SO worth it, I love every minute and I'm so glad we've stuck it out. The real clincher was the support from OH - you really need someone to sit with you at 3am while you try to persuade a starving, grumpy baby to get his tiny gums around your hugely swollen bowling-ball of a boob, and if they bring you toast and juice and stroke your hair while you cry then so much the better!

Goodness, this wee debrief has turned into a bloody novel - better stop! If anyone's still awake, I'll check back to see how you all get on and to make sure you all have lovely quick painless births :T , and thanks for all the congrats messages etc -

I too am so looking forward to tomorrow - it means I'll be able to say "Soon!" when people ask me when I'm due, instead of saying "Oh I've got another month to go" - cue very surprised faces!

I just really hope I'll have this baby in August and won't have to wait until September . DS was born at 38 weeks though so my plan is to have this one a couple of weeks early too. :rotfl:

Just found out today our next-door neighbour is pregnant too - there's definitely something in the water around here as she's the third pregnant woman in a row of 6 houses (two of which have old folk living there :rotfl: - actually one older lady has two daughters who are pregnant - this is worrying! :D). Am really pleased as it will be nice to have other babies living so close. :T

Aww Eels, thanks for posting! :T

Re: well-meaning relatives - I think we all know what it's like and it only gets worse once you've had the baby. You've got to stick to your guns though - breastfeeding will become a doddle once you're past those first few days. And well done to your OH for being so lovely! :A :T

Oh Eels, what a lovely post, the bit about breastfeeding has brought a lump to my throat. You really sound like a natural, I wouldn't believe you're the same person who was making me feel normal a while ago ;)

Really though your first week sounds like a dream - relatives aside - how did you resist screaming 'GET OUT!!!' - or is it just me who gets goosebumps at the idea of 11 of OH's relatives being around... :p

Can we see a picture :T
