    Ooh Eels, how exciting! :j

Alison: the sharp pain when you cough sounds like ligament pain - nothing to worry about. And welcome BTW, and all the other newbies to the thread, too! :)

Catching up on this thread has made me so hungry! :rotfl: I'm actually quite lucky with the things that we're not supposed to have when pg - I'm not too fussed about pate or peanut butter, and can't stand soft/blue cheeses, so this hasn't been too bad. The only thing I really really miss is wine. :o I have lovingly collected a rack full of my favourites and one is getting opened the second I get back home from hospital. I will be breastfeeding, so I know I won't be able to have loads, but oooh I'm so looking forward to even one glass.

I'm a bit confused about the whole peanut thing. I'm not allergic to anything at all, but DH is to a few things, so I've been trying to avoid peanuts (not 100% successfully as I ate Honey Nut Shredded Wheat in early pg until I realised that the crucial word is NUT - doh! :o)

And what's the deal with ham - that's just mad!

I've seen so many women smoke in pregnancy, which I personally find disgusting, that I really believe in a little perspective.

And CG, what a brilliant post about weight - I agree with every word. :T

Anyway, I'm off to the fridge :rotfl:

I asked the midwife about the dog and our homebirth - she said not to worry about it as mammals have an innate understanding and will leave a birthing mum alone... we'll wait and see if that's true :D If we need it we have a couple of dog sitters on standby - we don't put him in kennels anyway as he's a rescue and spent too long in kennels before we got him but it's good to know there is somewhere he can go if we need him to.

Just typed a big long post then got booted so here's a summary:

Alison, try curling up before you cough or sneeze, especially in bed, this helped prevent ligament pains for me (and blimey, they hurt!).

Re dogs - we're a long way (an hour) from the hossie so it's best for us if they're kennelled, that way OH doesn't have to worry about being back for them.

Re has it sunk in yet - er, no. Been having fairly regular and noticeable contractions for the last hour or so but since baby isn't booked to arrive 'til Tuesday I don't feel even slightly concerned, how irrational is that?! I figure they don't hurt nearly enough to be worrying ... :o

Saw my midwife for the first proper appointment today, luckily she's a dog lover (about 9 rescue dogs to date) and said the best thing to do is to let the dog have a good sniff of the baby as soon as possible, lick its face etc. To non-doggie people this probably sounds disgusting, but it's all part of the pack-bonding process.

And to my delight, she has said she'll put me down for a homebirth, though she doesn't have the final say over it.... being 40 and a first timer will count against me but as long as everything else progresses smoothly then should be ok. Will have to ensure my blood pressure stays normal and tell the baby to behave at every scan :rotfl:

Mind you - have now seen the doc and had 2 m/w appts, only 1 in great detail, but at 8 weeks, noone has yet confirmed I'm pregnant! I find it really weird that they just take your word for it! Am considering paying for a NT scan though as the NHS won't do one here...and am not interested in the bloods/amnio version since my age and weight will put me highrisk to start with.

Welshlassie, good luck! I joined the thread not long after you  And good luck to Eels too, don't disappear to the other thread straightaway, you have to give us all the gory details!

dougggie it is odd isn't it that they take your word for it - I felt like a fraud until I saw the scan at 12 weeks. As far as I know the nuchal scan gives best results in conjunction with the blood tests, I could be wrong but it's worth checking.

Eels - what an odd feeling to be having contractions but not to be thinking about giving birth IYSWIM. It must be a relief in many ways and at least takes away that panic and the stress that goes with it. I hope everything goes according to plan!

    :shhh::naughty:
Please stop talking about all that lovely food. DH is on instructions to order a marinara pizza the minute I have given birth (MLU by us has takeaway menus on hand for new mums and have no problem collecting deliveries for them - can't fault them) and he's on the look out for a little bottle of champagne to take into hospital, a full bottle of Mumm is in the fridge already. :rotfl:

I also really want a pint of prawns, pate and toast, and a dippy egg with soldiers.

I haven't bothered avoiding peanuts at all, there's no history of alleries in my/DH families at all, so have no huge concerns there. I haven't gone over board on them, but don't like peanut butter so the odd bag of salted peanuts isn't really an issue.

Eels - fingers crossed for your appoint today that you manage to remember all your questions and all the best for your very special meeting tomorrow when your baby arrives. :j

Alison - definitely sounds like ligaments I got it for weeks, until my bump started to show really. I tended to hold the area where it hurt when I needed to cough or sneeze, which always made my DH laugh, as though I was holding baby in place. My doctor prescribed me Cyclizine 50mg and Prochlorperazine 5mg when the cyclizine stopped working for my sickness. Didn't stop ity completely, but did make it easier to deal with and I stopped loosing weight.

We've just moved the moses basket into our room as we needed to rearrange the room to get it in, we thought it would be a good idea for me to get used to it now. It has also given our cat a chance to get used to having the moses basket around - its got the cat net on it already so hopefully she won't be too bothered when baby does arrive. We left the door to nursery open accidentally the other day and I came upstairs to find Macy (the cat) curled up in the nursing chair. She seems to like it as much as everyone else who has seen it (all the partners of my friends have decided it would make a fantastic gaming chair )

I went up the pub for the rugby back in March and there was this women there who had a baby due the same day as me, I sat there all afternoon and watched her smoke like it was going out of fashion and keep up drinking pints of larger with the boyfriend (I saw her put away 4 pints and another one was order just as I was leaving). She spent the time talking about how she was going to have the baby early and couldn't wait to get back to being able to drink normally. Meanwhile I was sat there with my glass of blackcurrant squash.

Fac - fab that you'll be able to have a home birth. When you think 100 years ago the majority of babies arrived at home and now less than 5% are, it makes me realise that birth is perfectly normal and although it is safer now than it was 100 years ago it has been so medical.

Sorry this has become such an essay, you can tell I'm on maternity leave now, I need something to keep me occupied, especially as baby is showing no signs of arriving imminently.

Thanks WelshLassie - I think I am going to go have the anti-emetics. Its really hard as hubby doesn't want me to take anti-emetics and as I am never sick - there is no real harm to me or the baby and he says why risk it. But I think I have had no life for the past 3 weeks and just think why not take them for a while.

Did you have to have time off work? Thats my main problem is that I have never had so much time off work - by this weekend I will have been off work for a fortnight. Eeek and I feel terrible about it, but also can't even think of going back at the mo.

Thanks for your advice x Alison x

PS - the stabbing pain seems to have gone this morning.

  • The worst nights sleep of my life! I was up at 4:10am and only went back to sleep when DH got up at 7! I can't get comfortable even with the extra 3 pillows in the bed . Feeling really sorry for myself this morning :o

    Enjoy today, Eels!!! x
