Right girlies this might sound like a silly question but it is bugging me!!
How many of you didn't put on much weight in the first 3 1/2 months? Is it normal not to? I know there is no such thing as normal coz everyone is different!!

    TIA

    Hiya

I haven't - I have lost weight but I have heard this very normal in the first trimester as lots of ladies feel so sick and stuff. Hope thats encouraging.

I lost a stone and only put it back on in about month 5... it all depends on how much nausea and sickness you have. Don't worry about it though as baby will take everything s/he needs. Everyone's different though some women gain a lot of fluid and others gain weight so there's no typical pattern.

alison - sorry can't really help the only thing that worked at all for me was eating very boring carbs every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I lived off toast pretty much. If I left it too long to eat then I'd wretch though. If you're not able to eat then try things like flat lemonade as that may settle your stomach enough but if nothing's working then just take it as easy as you can. It's a bind I barely left the house in the first 3 months as I was either feeling sick or just so tired I couldn't move. It does get better... eventually!

does anyone else get a shock when they catch a glimpse of themselves in the mirror. I'm ok if I'm looking in the mirror but if I happen to catch sight of myself in passing I suddenly think 'oh @£$% I'm pregnant, htf did that happen?'  :rotfl:

I lost weight in the beginning purely due to smaller portion sizes. I wasn't sick, just nauseous from 2-10pm, so it wasn't that. But I did lose like half a stone just by not having an evening meal. It was more like a snack, as couldn't fit anymore in. Eventually any nausea and lack of space dissipated and am now happily eating anything and everything, although most nights I pay with ACID .

As for beating the nausea, eat food as dry as you can have it. Ahhh, good old toast and ricecakes.

It's funny the stages you go through. There was the 'chicken smells disgusting' stage, desperate for coke stage, need beef stage (this lasted until I cooked some into lovely hard leather strips , puts you right off). I have eaten some gherkins, but my dog seemed to have a stronger craving for them than me. I fear eating them now, in case I strip the rest of my oesophagus off!

I am now convinced I have SPD, have no one to turn to for help (midwife dismissed it) and am in constant, can't even sit comfortably, pain. Which makes me eat chocolate like a crazy woman. Pile on the pounds!

oh no that's not helpful! My GP was pretty crap but the midwives have all been sympathetic at the least. What sort of pain is it and where is it? I've had pelvic pain on and off throughout and also a pain in my bum (tail bone area) which was particularly unpleasant. At the very least there are exercises you can do which help (as they help strengthen the muscles which help to support the joints) as well as using a birthing/fit ball to relieve the pressure on the lower back and to help ease of movement when doing pelvic movements. You should be able to request a referral to the physio and hopefully they'll have a women's advice session which covers most general things. If you want details of the exercises I can give them to you - they really have helped a lot.

It started in my private bits, classic can't turn over in bed, get out of bed, can't lift legs, walking is painful (my dog knows we sit on every bench now!), very localised pain. Four weeks now. These past few days it's just spread everywhere and I move about like an old woman. Hubby called me 'you poor thing', which shows how bad it must be. I would understand if I was huge and ready to drop, but I am 30 weeks, measuring right for dates, have LOADS left to do and I can't do anything. Although I think recently I have been pushing through the pain, which is why it got so bad.
My instincts tell me this is wrong, as people are of course still mobile at this stage and I'm just trying to figure out where to get help from. I can get an appointment with some GP on monday and start from there I suppose. I know where the physio lives ;). At the very least I know getting the ball out would help, and I promise to get round to blowing it up.
Obviously it's not SPD, but good grief, I've had enough. I just walk about muttering 'not normal' under my breath. Crazy anyone.
I'm sure I'll get better soon, but if not, I'll get back to you Justie for help.

Goodness, I feel SOOO much chirpier after that moan! Thank you! I love this thread.
