Dogs on settees?

I will admit to being a mean and horrible person who doesn't allow my dog on my settee. The settee is mainly for visitors who don't want covering in dog hair, and I can't be doing with faffing around with throws.
In theory, the only time mutt came on my chair was when I was already on it, when she'd sit on the footstool with her front half on my lap for a bit of fuss. (As she got older, she did start sneaking on when I wasn't around, and I used to pretend I hadn't noticed.)
I do seem to be in a minority - friends with dogs have them all over the furniture, and half the pictures on the dog adoption site show dogs happily ensconced wherever they feel like it.
So out of curiosity, any one else who prefers their dog to not get on the furniture? I suspect there may not be that many of us.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Mine doesn't get on the furniture. I dislike sitting in hair. I also dislike the thought of whatever was trodden on outside, being on my couch.Herman - MP for all!

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

I've got one curled up on either side of me as we speak!
They don't shed and I have leather couches, so its less of an issue than dog hair on fabric, but I still can't imagine having a dog and never letting it get comfy and sprawled out on the couch, they love it. One of mine loves to sit high up on the back to survey his kingdom, I'd ruin his life if I took that away from him.0 -
Mine both get allowed up.

My dogs have never been allowed on furniture.
Although saying that, they have never been allowed upstairs but somehow Digger has changed my mind on that.
He also seems to be allowed to put his front paws on my bed in a morning to wake me up.
He is not getting on the sofa though.... No way.... Not at all!0 -
I used to let my dogs on the settees - I have 2 leather ones so easy to clean... or so I thought! I had the lounge redecorated, so blitzed the cleaning as you do, including doing a deep clean on my settees. Took me ages... and they were filthy!! Dark brown leather doesn't really show much dirt until you put a damp cloth on it.... so now they aren't allowed up there. Took me a day or two to ensure that they knew, but no problems now with them staying off.
And not allowed upstairs either - I need a hair/slobber free zone!0 -

I do my black leather settees with a soapy cloth once a week, its not so bad if you keep on top of it.
I find the bit of the house that gets the messiest are the skirting boards and the bottom foot of the walls, not much I can do about those except re-painting eventually so no point worrying!0 -
I don't have a dog but was listening to a radio program earlier in the week where someone said they bought a white leather sofa just for a great dane to sleep on (£1400 no less) not very moneysaving was it!0
