    Hi toasti
Glad you are all set up ready to go.

Sorry don't know about the default really - thought it was 6 years from issue. Not planning to need it anyway as plan to save instead as soon as the DMP is over! ;)

    Hi everyone,

The ball is rolling a bit more now. CCCS have received my paperwork, we revised the budget a little and now it is being sent off to head office and then they will contact my creditors. On my end, I just rang bank of scotland about my new account and apparently I have been successful. I didn't go for a basic account because I need a cheque book, gave it a try and it is ok, that's good news, just have to wait for the paperwork to come through.

I freaked out a bit when I read back over the old thread and 'smilealot' said if you have commitments with your old bank you should pay the minimum with them, not just an interim payment, problem is I have a huge loan with my bank so the minimum is £365 per mth, I obviously can't afford that, so I asked CCCS what to do. They said that is what the overdraft figure is on my debts, they have allowed for first direct taking 2 payments and that it will go into my overdraft. Phew! I thought I was going to have to cancel all my direct debits with all my priority payments, remove all my money and pay everyone over the phone or something. Glad that is sorted.

Next on my list for tomorrow is to send out the letters with interim payments to all my creditors. Oh yeah I have also rang several creditors to tell them my "new" phone number ;) so hopefully I won't get any nasty phone calls.

Toastie: I have read further back on this thread that no one seemed to know the answer to that question, a few people thought it was after the debt paid and a few thought it was after default. I will do a google and see if I can find out anything.

A question for the regulars who have been on a dmp for some time:
How do you manage to buy presents for your children and family/friends for birthdays and christmas now that you are on a DMP? Do you have a set budget for that, it looks like we might only be able to afford £5-10 each which is so shocking and hard for me as I usually spend hundreds!

Second question is how to you afford holidays? Is that just bonus money or is it in the budget?

    thanks

    Kat x

Hopefully I can set the record straight. According to a government website about insolvency the default stays on your file for 6 years after the default was filed, not after the debt is paid:

    http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/freedomofinformation/technical/creditrating.htm

That's good news for all of us :T , as I wasn't sure either.

Thanks Kat. So the one I've got should be nearly gone by the time my DMP is finished. Hopefully the others won't default me later on ;)

    Good researching!

I do a lot of surveys and that is my Christmas fund so far I have about £350 ish in vouchers.

Me and hubby do ipoints and we have a sort of "game" that we spend our ipoints on each other.

I try to use bonuses etc for my own childrens birthdays - and if I see things reduced I buy them and keep them in for birthdays. I also passed message round the family without going into details that it was silly what we were all spending on presents and capped it - so they don't spend much and neither do we. Christmas I only buy parents and children of the family which saved a hell of a lot!

Holiday I budget for monthly and send it directly to the holiday company so that I don't spend it - we only holiday in this county though so not sure what others do.

I too use vouchers from the likes of pigsback ect for xmas birthdays, after 16 months on dmp iv learnt to try and save some money/vouchers for jan sales, i get boots vouchers from pigsback and got loads of bargins in jan sales this year, made myself a present cupboard and havent had to buy a gift yet, send off for all freebies and made up hampers last xmas for gifts, it actually looks like you have spent more and put more effort in.
As for hoildays i spend way less than budgeted for on food and ebay for the spare money for hoildays.
One thing i do for in laws for xmas from around this time of year( as most have sell buy date after xmas now) i buy one extra food item each week, to make up a food hamper, such as nice biscuits chocs, jams, coffee, tea, then put in a basket filled with shredded coloured paper looks great and doesnt break the bank.
Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST

    Morning all

hope everyone is okay. I am just off to do weekly shop with son age 7 as well as he is still off school as it flooded (been closed all week), I will hopefully be able to keep the shopping bill down. (fingers crossed)
Only had calls from 2 creditors lately capital one and lloyds rang yesterday morning before i went to work. 8.15am!! I said with cccs etc and they lady said yes i have that information but still continued to ask for full balance, i said sorry you will be hearing from cccs shortly by 25th monthly. She then asked for my mobile and work number (as if i would give them).

The lady then said you are incurring extra interest every day now i said well there is not much i can do about that, and that is up to lloyds to change that.(in a polite way though) she then said could i contact cccs to tell them to get in touch with them.
I have had one default from ge money and all other statements sent just showing late charges and interest. I have had no calls from barclaycard at all which seems strange I missed first payment on 25th may.

Did anyone find the budget difficult in the first month of going on dmp. I am doing okay but hubby is struggling and it is causing friction again. He likes a drink and smokes (switched to tobacco) he has cut down a lot but is still spending too much. I am so annoyed with him atm but its early days and he knows what happens if he spends too much. Think he is annoyed as its his birthday on sunday and it will be the first time we have not been out. (normally only go out on birthdays anyway.) He said he does not want to go as he will not enjoy it as we can not afford it. He was terrible for taking out cash on his credit card of which i never did and i think he is finding this so hard at the moment.
sorry for the moan sure others have been in this position
bye for now all take care
  • Hi all

Well, things certainly move in mysterious ways and 24 hours is a long time in the world of DMPs it seems.

Following my desperation type post yesterday (I know it wasn't, but that's how it felt at the time).....got home last night to find OH in a strangely happy and calm mood.

"I've had a call from Hfax CreditCard" says he, which makes me panic as usually they annoy the bits off him. "and they apologised.......and have accepted our token payment proposal until January".

Blimey! Apparently the guy that OH spoke to apologised for his colleague's abruptness, rudeness and lack of knowledge of the facts....stated that yes they did have the paperwork, understood the circumstances and were willing to freeze interest and any charges until (as we asked in the letter) january when the situation will be reviewed. Also, as long as we stick to the agreement, they won't default us either (okay, we have missed payments on the credit file, but no default). Anyway, we won't be appliying for any credit ever so can't see there being a problem with this.

So, all in all, a good day. Call with Payplan is still planned for tomorrow afternoon, but now not too sure what this will achieve as it's only really the Halifax that we wanted to stop hassling us. Will still move the bank accounts though.

    Thoughts appreciated!

    Purps xx

Thanks to dreamer999 and valley's girl for your concern. Am feeling much better now although not completely out of the woods re the dizziness. Am going to have some neck massage or similar as there is a connection between our cerebellum (back of neck/head area) and our inner ear where my problem apparently is. Google is so useful for all types of research.

I hope everyone has a good day and remember the banks just want their money and will use all kind of tricks to get it. Well some do. They also don't check what they are doing saying one thing and then realising something else is the case. Amazing what you learn when in this unpleasant situation about how banks work and behave.
