  • Have just started dealing with my debts after years of consolidating and getting more and more into debt. CCCS have set up a Debt management plan and i'm now feeling much better about things:j . But got a letter this morning from my bank (who I have a £1500 overdraft with) saying they are accepting the payment sorted out by CCCS but have said they will only do this if I convert the overdraft to a managed loan. Which basically means I will have to pay back an extra £376 interest - which considering it was an interest free graduate overdraft is somewhat galling....In addition to the fact they know that the reason i'm taking this step is because i'm in debt...it's absolutely infuriating. I'll be straight onto CCCS on Monday. Assuming they can't force me into this 'loan'...Have also had major problems with Northern Rock who constantly ring/text/write to me. I can expect at least 1 call per day or a text if I don't answer, they have called at 8am and 9pm and I get a letter every other day..this despite DMP now in place. Although I can handle this kind of stuff it does get very draining at times...anyone else had same/similar experiences????

Hi johnny, is the bank HSBC? They love the ol' managed loan. Ignore it and phone CCCS - your instincts were right.

I don't think they are allowed to call at those times, but someone who knows will be along shortly I'm sure.

  • Funnily enough it is HSBC, who I have banked with for twenty years....not any longer however..good riddance.

Johnnyf66, they soon get fed up of you not answering the calls letter ect.
Mine finally stopped about 3-4 months into the plan, i have had only 1 phone call in the past 16 months, they have learnt to phone the Dmp as they know i will just talk over them and hang up.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I am officially 29....only another year to the big 30 :-(

I'm interested in recent comments about MBNA - I too have a credit card with them. Looking forward to their reaction, not! Hopefully they won't be too awkward to my DMP.

Just a quick one as have an evening of washing and ironing ahead...I know how to live!! xx

  • Hi,

New here, but have been reading for months with interest. I successfully claimed my bank charges back in June, 2007. This helped a lot! I have been on a DMP with Payplan since June 2005. I am almost ready to put in full and final offers on 4 of my 5 creditors. Now it gets tricky. MBNA have not played ball for the whole time i have been on DMP. My debt with them is almost identical to the penny to what it was. I have paid almost double what the minimum amount was. My debt with them was £4,490, its now £4,486. I have tried to negotiate with them over the years about reduced interest, or even freezing it like my other creditors did after 9-12 months of being on DMP ( I tell you the first year was the hardest). I have written to MBNA complaining about the calls I have received over the last 2 years that have been not only irritating having to repeat 7 times a day that I have a DMP, but harrassing, bullying and i now know from the guidelines that their tactics are illegal. I have started to record any stray calls. I was advised by their Customer Services Complaints Department that I should have been offered a reduced interest plan as they do not under any circumstances freeze interest. She told me I should have been offered this 6 months after starting DMP! I have never missed a payment on my DMP. The money leaves me on the 1st of each month, yet it doesnt arrive on MBNA account until 26th??? I have asked them for the difference in the interest rate that I should have been offered two years ago and I have also sent them my charges reclaim with interest. Phew, good to moan to people who understand.

Now, has anyone done this before? Asked for real interest back due to misinformation from the company itself? Another quick question.... has anyone got experience of offering full and final offers through Payplan? What should I offer? 40% or 60% or more?

Thank you for reading. I have paid off nearly £12,000 in 2.5 years and I would like to be debt free by CHristmas instead of May, 2008 (not withstanding MBNA of course!)

    THank you.

Hi SortingIt :p I wouldn't trust MBNA with a barge pole at the moment if you see by my post just an few posts above you :rotfl:I'm going to be playing them at there own game. I think they are shafting me by buttering me up with promise of a short settlement over 3 installments but wont put it in writing saying they have agreed to this. UMMMMMMM dodgy !!!!!!
I have got to the point were they have mentioned that i own a property etc (( think there trying to scare me or something there))) and they will sell my debt on GO ON THEN !!! my credit history has defaults on it any way so i am slowly learning to keep my chin up. ((not always easy though ))

I have been in my DMP with my partner since we got in difficulties 5 months ago. My partner had the brunt of the harassing calls from he's creditors so we wrote letters saying only contact via letter and not via work or personal number. Seemed to of worked with most but a couple do not give in. One being Red castle there another persistent lot watch out for those  LOL

Sorry i'll stop jabbering bye for now and hope your washing and ironing was fun :o

  • Morning guys,

What a cold one it is!!! I was freezing at 6am this morning waiting for my train, think the old hat and gloves are due to come out.

Thanks A85 re MBNA. It seems to me from previous post and others that they either play ball or they don't. Not looking forward to it but I am a tough cookie and the WON'T get anything more out of me than payplan offer them that is for sure.

I am currently waiting for the phone calls/letters to start rolling in. Sent all my letters and token payments last week. The only good thing is that I am not in arrears with anyone until the end of this month when all payments are due. I guess that is when the fun starts. Still, I know I am doing the right thing and this is the only chance I have to clearing those debts forever!!

Anyhow, best go as at work! Hope everyone has a good Monday whatever they may be doing xx
