I rang them today and they said the ombudsman have given them a statements stating that they can take up to 40 working days. My job is dealing with DP and FOI request so, I rang the ombudsman and they didn't know anything about this statement changing the deadline!! What can I do????????

read read read, that's the best advice I can give you, pore over these forums and you'll find everything you need. Never mind the banks and their forty days, stick to your own timetable HOWEVER arm yourself with knowledge, please don't just leap in without research. On the Consumer action group website you will also find invaluable advice about MCOL etc. Also, the success thread is not the place to post.
    Best of luck

    hi there,
    just a little query!
I sent natwest the second letter asking for £994 of bank charges on thursday the 10th may, giving them 14 days to respond and as of yet i still havent heard anything, also i forgot to put my telephone number on the top of the letter so will that add extra delay in them contacting me.
Do i send another 2nd letter of would it be best to phone them?
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
Has anybody had any problems with getting there money back with Natwest?
I am in the process of claiming just over £5000 with natwest and they didnt reply to my first or second letter and only got a response from them after I went through MCOL threatening to take them to court.
Don't be surprised if they don't reply I am sure they have hundreds of these claims to get through- just follow this websites advice. I would recommend a second letter straight away.

Could some one please explain to me the difference, advantages/disadvantages, of making a claim through MCOL and FOS.
    Thank you

I wonder if anyone could please help me???
On the 23rd of March 2007 I wrote to Halifax (local branch) asking for my statements for the last 6 yrs.
It is now the 30th may and I am still yet to recieve them.
I called the Halifax last week and the guy said its a 40 day turn around, I explained nicely to him that is has now been over 60 days so he said that what he could do is send me a copy of my bank charges only. BUT this would take up to a further 28 days!!!

This morning I have just recieved a letter from HBOS saying quote

"We will aim to provide you with the info requested as quickly as possible. (HA HA) We are currently experiencing high numbers of similar requests so it may take a little time, HOWEVER I can confirm you will recieve the information within the next 40 days.

Does this mean I have to wait a further 40 days ontop of the 60+ I have already waited, or is there something I can do?

I havent took the mcol way so i dont really know advantages or disadvantages to doing it his way only on what i hear of other people on here.
I have gone to the ombudsman with mine the advantages of it is a free service (which is great for me as i carnt afford the court costs just yet)
They are actually winning a good few cases if you look on the success reports thread.
I sent my letter to the FO on the 08/05 and they sent me a letter stating they was dealing with my request this would take 14 days before i heard anything. I phoned them yesturday they said it was getting inputted and i would hear something by the end of the week.
The good thing is i am not sat around doing nothing waiting till i can afford the courts, so i am just keeping my fingers crossed i know that megan on hear has had success with the ombudsman.
Good luck in which ever route you decide to take.

Would it be worth my while phoning the bank again today and telling them that I will be making a complaint or even go to my local branch as I read one ladies story that when she went into the bank she recieved her info two days later.
    Thanks

    hi cyberman
Its too late for me to do this, I am waiting for the defence which was filed on MCOL, it hasn't turned up yet, but would I be able to ask them at this stage for a full breakdown of the charges ?
