Ok i sent off mt frist letter giving 14 days didnt hear a thing. Sent off letter number 2 giving 14 days saying id take them to court if they didnt deal with it as its a hardship case again didnt hear anything. So i rang the bank asking what was going on was told the manager was dealing with it and would ring me the next day. So i waited for the call from the bank it didnt come (whats new) Then this morning i got a letter thanking me for my claim haha and that they would be in touch by the 7/04/09 with an outcome on it. FINGERS CROSSED.

Thing is i give 14 days in my last letter this will make it over 30 if i wait to the 7/04/09

so sould i write back saying thats to long?

    or

sit it out to the 7th and see what happens?
i would wait the 8 weeks at least then you know you are in the right and can't get fobbed off

Can i suggest that if people are struggling due to charges being added to their account on a monthly basis that you set up a parachute account to stop the cycle? Whether you are entitled to reclaim under the hardship rules or not it is still a long process.

On post 3901 and onwards there are links i've posted up to help with various aspects of reclaiming eg useful websites, template letters etc. Esmeralda also posted a link i believe Natwestbanker has a useful link in his sig.

Read around as much info as poss to help you understand what needs to be done next.

Good luck with your claims ;)

I have a quick question which I hope someone else can answer fairly quickly! I defaulted on a DD for a bank loan due to not being short that month..I missed a couple of payments due to becoming redundant etc. I have now racked up excess charges (calls and letters) and interest to the amount of around £500. To save any further charges being added I paid the amount but was wondering if it were possible to reclaim this?

Hi, has anyone tried using one of teh numerous companies that offer to claim bank charges on your behalf?

I work away most of the time and so don't have the time to properly pursue the process myself, so this seems to be the way to go.
But I'm concerned about choosing a reputable company to help me.
    Any ideas?

do it yourself, it doesn't take much time.

Send your DPA Request - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/5dfbe25a and £10

Wait till they send the info/list of charges. Add them up.

Then send your letter for the refund of charges - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/c129d2ac

Then you will be on hold for the outcome of the test case

A company won't get it through any quicker, and by the time you found one and given them all the info, signed T&C's and sent them all the info you may as well have sent the letter to your bank yourself.

  • In January 2008 I reclaimed £3,656 from Abbey using Martins template letters. I then stopped using the Abbey account which was overdrawn by £2000 and switched to Nationwide for my day to day account. Many more letters were exchanged as Abbey kept sending debt letters and I kept writing back and pointing out that I considered they owed me more money than I owed them. I was made redundant in December 2008 and wrote again to Abbey and filled in their from for income and expenditure and enclosed my Job Seekers Allowance claim form. Today, Monday 16 March 2009, I have had a letter from Abbey to say they will refund £3,006. A very very pleasing result I think and thanks a million Martin, what a star!
